Note: These are the kind of sinkholes that worry me most: in a coastal area, where there are large methane hydrate deposits along the coast. Some of those deposits may extend UNDER the land and as they dissolve, the ground above may subside, resulting in sinkholes, infrastructure problems, buildings collapsing, landslides, and eventually the possibility of entire coastal communities sloughing off into the sea...
