Event Update For 2018-08-20

The seas, lakes and oceans are now pluming deadly hydrogen sulfide and suffocating methane. Hydrogen sulfide is a highly toxic water-soluble heavier-than-air gas and will accumulate in low-lying areas. Methane is slightly more buoyant than normal air and so will be all around, but will tend to contaminate our atmosphere from the top down. These gases are sickening and killing oxygen-using life all around the world, including human life, as our atmosphere is increasingly poisoned. Because both gases are highly flammable and because our entire civilization is built around fire and flammable fuels, this is leading to more fires and explosions. This is an extinction level event and will likely decimate both the biosphere and human population and it is debatable whether humankind can survive this event.

A. More fires and more explosions, especially along the coasts, but everywhere generally.
B. Many more animal die-offs, of all kinds, and especially oceanic species.
C. More multiples of people will be found dead in their homes, as if they'd dropped dead.
D. More corpses found in low-lying areas, all over the world.
E. More unusual vehicular accidents.
F. Improved unemployment numbers as people die off.

  1. Good morning, Jonny and fellow readers here.

Man, this report has a LOT of stuff in it worth mentioning. Let's start with PEANUTS smoldering (wtf?)! This puts all processing plants (especially grains and bakery items) in the "at risk" category now.

Next we have this little item that would go unnoticed if not for the sheer number of people involved - 20 people died in ONE DAY in reservoirs in the Ukraine. GEEZ, and here I thought India was bad!

Lastly, though every story is interesting (like how the hell do you end up parked underwater with another person in the passenger seat? e.g.), is the woman who blacked out and ran into a post office and didn't remember any of it. See, this is what happens when you drive through an atmosphere with a trace of H2S in it. Any more than that and you're driving while becoming instantaneously DEAD.

Great report, Jonny - as usual. Your high-standards and keen eye pick out the stories the mainstream won't go into detail on (and rarely, if ever follow-up on) every day. All of them make you wonder wtf is going on. Thankfully, your Hypothesis in the lede gives us the plausible explanation that it's all the result of the ever-increasing quantities of (especially) H2S and CH4 pervading the atmosphere - changing the chemistry and effecting all life on the planet.

Let's see what's going on today:

  3. The real threat at Yellowstone is not a SUPERVOLCANIC ERUPTION but a MASSIVE M7.0 EARTHQUAKE

Fears of the supervolcano lurking at the heart of Yellowstone National Park have long lingered in the backs of many Americans’ minds. It’s been nearly 650,000 years since the last giant eruption, and predicting when the next will occur is a complex feat that continues to elude scientists. Despite all the attention directed toward the supervolcano, experts monitoring activity at the park around the clock say it isn’t an eruption we should be immediately concerned about – it’s earthquakes. The seismically active region produces up to 2,500 small earthquakes a year on average, and scientists say it’s only a matter of time before it’s rocked by a much larger magnitude 7 event. [more]

    Saying goodbye to Planet Earth
    http://www.desdemonadespair.net/2018/08/saying-goodbye-to-planet-earth.html [by Chris Hedges]

The failure to act to ameliorate global warming exposes the myth of human progress and the illusion that we are rational creatures. We ignore the wisdom of the past and the stark scientific facts before us. We are entranced by electronic hallucinations and burlesque acts, including those emanating from the centers of power, and this ensures our doom. Speak this unpleasant truth and you are condemned by much of society. The mania for hope and magical thinking is as seductive in the Industrial Age as it was in pre-modern societies.

#1 Extinction Events Are Ironically Good For Life

British Columbia wildfires “may be the new normal” – 2018 is third-worst fire season on record in B.C. – “From flood to fire to flood and then again to fire, and we have had two states of emergency — that’s unprecedented”

Flanked by the federal defense minister, the mayor of Prince George and a First Nations chief in Prince George, Premier Horgan addressed the media, saying wildfires have prompted an unprecedented second state of emergency in the province in the last 12 months, after the devastating floods this spring.
"We're concerned, all of us, that this may be the new normal," Horgan said, adding that emergency officials are very worried about the wind and lightning forecast for the region, and no rain in the forecast. Defense Minister Harjit Sajjan said the Canadian Armed Forces have deployed about 300 personnel to help fight the fires in B.C., adding, "We're coming together far too often like this." [more]

Trump’s Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke acknowledges role of global warming in wildfires after blaming “environmental terrorist groups”

Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke suggested that climate change may have a role in the recent wildfires that have ravaged California. When asked by CBS News reporter Weijia Jiang whether he accepted that climate change was part of the problem, Zinke said "of course." He also acknowledged that "temperatures are rising."

However, Zinke also reiterated an argument that he made earlier this week, blaming environmental groups for preventing dead trees from being cleared due to their opposition to the logging industry. [more]

Fire department says Verizon’s throttling of data hampered suppression of California’s largest fire in history

Fall-like weather could slow wildfires in Northern Rockies

When I saw the prediction from the Missoula National Weather Service office above, it got me thinking about how this cooler, possibly wetter weather is going to affect the dozens of large wildfires currently burning in the northwest United States. Two of the fires we have written about over the last couple of days, Watson Creek in Oregon and Howe Ridge in Montana, recently had small amounts of precipitation, certainly not enough to put them out, but it will absolutely slow their spread for a day or two.
