The video was captured  by officials with the Assumption Parish Office of Emergency Preparedness and posted on the parish’s blog.  The sinkhole sits in the middle of a heavily wooded space in Assumption Parish, which is about 50 miles south of Baton Rouge."

Note: Seeing those trees just slide away and disappear like that is scary. If trees could talk, I bet those trees would have been screaming, 'GTFO, save yourselves!'

Note: These coastal sinkholes make me very uneasy. There are methane hydrate deposits all around the coasts of the world, and they are dissociating in at least some areas now, transforming from a solid (of a sort) to gas and water. As this problem worsens, coastal areas seem likely to experience land subsidence, and in fact that has been happening with some regularity. We may see entire cities wiped out, not necessarily in giant one-day subsidence events (though that can't be ruled out), but over time, event by event...
