Event Update For 2017-12-28

The seas, lakes and oceans are now pluming deadly hydrogen sulfide and suffocating methane. Hydrogen sulfide is a highly toxic water-soluble heavier-than-air gas and will accumulate in low-lying areas. Methane is slightly more buoyant than normal air and so will be all around, but will tend to contaminate our atmosphere from the top down. These gases are sickening and killing oxygen-using life all around the world, including human life, as our atmosphere is increasingly poisoned. Because both gases are highly flammable and because our entire civilization is built around fire and flammable fuels, this is leading to more fires and explosions. This is an extinction level event and will likely decimate both the biosphere and human population and it is debatable whether humankind can survive this event.

A. More fires and more explosions, especially along the coasts, but everywhere generally.
B. Many more animal die-offs, of all kinds, and especially oceanic species.
C. More multiples of people will be found dead in their homes, as if they'd dropped dead.
D. More corpses found in low-lying areas, all over the world.
E. More unusual vehicular accidents.
F. Improved unemployment numbers as people die off.

  1. Good morning everyone. Sorry I didn't get back to post more yesterday. Everything just blurred together after my chauffer job. Next thing I knew, I was drinking (our) home-made wine with my brother (at the home of his youngest daughter and her husband's farm house an hour north of my home). They have a 1.5 y.o. 140 lb. loveable Great Dane (who rests his big head on the table to see what we're doing and busies himself playing with what look like mastodon bones). Fun time. Snowing this morning here at home.

10 times the US intelligence community ran completely amok

The American People Are Coming to Terms With The Fact That Their Government Is A Dictatorship

The only scientific study that has yet been done on the question of whether the U.S. is, in fact, run by a democratic government, or instead by a dictatorial one (specifically by an oligarchy, or a government that represents only the richest citizens), was published in September 2014, and it found clearly that the U.S. is definitely not a democracy, but the other type: that "the preferences of the average American appear to have only a minuscule, near-zero, statistically non-significant impact upon public policy", whereas "economic elites and organized groups representing business interests have substantial independent impacts on U.S. government policy"; and, furthermore, that, "The real-world impact of elites upon public policy may be still greater" than their statistics indicate, because the researchers weren't able to measure the impact that the super-rich have on policy, but only the impact that the rich have on policy (versus the impact that the total American public have on policy). The rich control America's Government, but whether the richest do, wasn't able to be researched, as of 2014. [more]

Just the Facts: Presentation in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada

On 7 November 2017 I delivered a presentation on the campus of McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario. Consistent with a request from the host, the presentation is heavy on evidence and light on what to do with it. The resulting video is embedded below. [~ 100 min. video presentation]

A response for people using record cold U.S. weather to refute global warming – “Even as climate warms, we will always have winter”

2017 is a record-breaker for climate disasters – “The Trump administration has spent its 2017 dismantling federal actions designed to both address the root causes of climate change and to prepare for its impacts”

As this year comes to a close, 2017 is on track to set the all-time record for the most billion-dollar weather and climate disasters in any single year in US history.

There were 15 in the first nine months (equal to all of 2011, which set the record) and the final count, due early next year from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), will no doubt include at least some of the hurricanes and wildfires that have happened since September.

Remarkably, the five costliest billion-dollar disaster years -- 2004, 2005, 2008, 2011, and 2012 -- have all occurred in the past 15 years. This trend matches what climate scientists have warned: Climate change makes disasters worse. [more]

Rewriting life: These are not your father's GMOs

A new wave of gene-edited crops are dodging regulators, and they're about to reach stores.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture has concluded that the new plants are not "regulated articles." The reason is a legal loophole: its regulations apply only to GMOs constructed using plant pathogens like bacteria, or their DNA. That means Calyxt can commercialize its beans without going through the process of permits, inspections, and safety tests required for other genetically modified crops. It's counting on that to cut at least half the 13 years and $130 million that companies have, on average, invested in order to create a new GMO and get it into farmers' hands.

To GMO opponents, the new, unregulated plants are a source of alarm. For years, they have argued that GMOs should be opposed because they might be unsafe. What if they cause allergies or poison butterflies? Now the battle lines are shifting because companies like Calyxt can create plants without DNA from a different species in them. They can argue that gene editing is merely "accelerated breeding technology." [more]

New culprit is killing the world's bees

Scientists have found what they believe to be the strongest factor leading to the worryingly steep decline of bumblebees... fungicides.

The discovery has now been added to the growing list of threats that could potentially lead to the extinction of the essential pollinators. The revelation that common fungicides are having the strongest impact on the insects came as a surprise, as they typically affect mold and mildew, but appear to be killing bees by making them more susceptible to the nosema parasite or by exacerbating the toxicity of other pesticides. Bubbles As An Asset Class

2017 was the year in which speculative bubbles became an asset class unto themselves, packaged and sold by ubiquitous Madoff-inspired "advisors". The year in which Ponzi schemes became legitimate...

Needless to say, buying assets that have no intrinsic value is a zero sum game. One gambler's gain comes at the expense of the next gambler's loss. Nevertheless, many seemingly intelligent people have embraced this greater fool strategy with extreme gusto:

    Mark Cuban on investing:
“'s interesting because I think there are a lot of assets that have values based on just supply and demand. You know, most stocks, they don't have any intrinsic value, no true ownership rights, no voting rights, you just have the ability to buy and sell those stocks. They're like baseball cards and I think Bitcoin is the same thing...”

With that in mind, let's evaluate some of this year's largest bubbles - evidencing abundant supply and demand, and very little intrinsic value... [more; see list]
