Event Update For 2016-05-29

The seas, lakes and oceans are now pluming deadly hydrogen sulfide and suffocating methane. Hydrogen sulfide is a highly toxic water-soluble heavier-than-air gas and will accumulate in low-lying areas. Methane is slightly more buoyant than normal air and so will be all around, but will tend to contaminate our atmosphere from the top down. These gases are sickening and killing oxygen-using life all around the world, including human life, as our atmosphere is increasingly poisoned. Because both gases are highly flammable and because our entire civilization is built around fire and flammable fuels, this is leading to more fires and explosions. This is an extinction level event and will likely decimate both the biosphere and human population and it is debatable whether humankind can survive this event.

A. More fires and more explosions, especially along the coasts, but everywhere generally.
B. Many more animal die-offs, of all kinds, and especially oceanic species.
C. More multiples of people will be found dead in their homes, as if they'd dropped dead.
D. More corpses found in low-lying areas, all over the world.
E. More unusual vehicular accidents.
F. Improved unemployment numbers as people die off.

Scientists just discovered dozens of new sources of air pollution

Scientists may have significantly underestimated a dangerous source of pollution in the atmosphere, new research suggests. A satellite study, published Monday in the journal Nature Geoscience, has revealed nearly 40 previously unreported major sources of sulfur dioxide emissions — a pollutant that can cause multiple harmful health and environmental impacts and even exacerbate global warming.

Sulfur dioxide pollution can come from a variety of sources, both natural and industrial, including volcanoes, oil refineries and the burning of fossil fuels. Although it has a relatively short lifespan in the atmosphere — a few hours to a few days — it’s important for scientists to keep track of its presence to help inform air quality and climate models and create pollution-cutting policies.

anywhere from 7 to 14 million metric tons of sulfur dioxide may be missing from global inventories each year.

Overall, they identified nearly 500 major sources of sulfur dioxide emissions, 75 of which were volcanic, and therefore natural, sources. Out of the remaining, human-caused sources, 39 could not be matched to any of the sources already identified in the inventories.

Of these 39 “missing” sources, there was a significant cluster in the Middle East. Fourteen were located there, and 12 of those corresponded with oil and gas operations, such as oil refineries. The rest of the missing locations were spread across the world, including Asia, Africa, Europe and the Americas, and corresponded largely with power plants.

Altogether, emissions from these 39 missing sources came to about 7 million metric tons annually, or approximately 6 percent of the total amount of sulfur dioxide produced by humans. However, the researchers noted that their method was only able to capture about half of the known anthropogenic sulfur dioxide sources in the world, owing to limitations in satellite technology — meaning that there may actually be twice as many missing sources out there as the method detected this time around.

there may be up to 14 million metric tons of missing sulfur dioxide emissions in the world.

  5. Lightings strikes and shark attacks - things are getting sparky and sharky!

  6. I got bit by a deer tick (apparently) over the holiday weekend and was sick for 3 days. Started feeling better on Monday and went to the doc yesterday. He drew blood and told me to take a baby aspirin once a day . . . they'll get back to me in a week or so with the lab results. My middle son thought it was a tick bite and my wife thought my symptoms indicated a low grade sinus infection (headache, no appetite, unusually tired).

  7. Ew, sorry to hear that! I hate those things. Used to have a friend who owned a resort at Lake of the Ozarks, and that area was always just crawling with deer ticks. I guess birds and stuff eat them, so they serve some purpose, but...yuck!
