Event Update For 2015-12-06

The seas, lakes and oceans are now pluming deadly hydrogen sulfide and suffocating methane. Hydrogen sulfide is a highly toxic water-soluble heavier-than-air gas and will accumulate in low-lying areas. Methane is slightly more buoyant than normal air and so will be all around, but will tend to contaminate our atmosphere from the top down. These gases are sickening and killing oxygen-using life all around the world, including human life, as our atmosphere is increasingly poisoned. Because both gases are highly flammable and because our entire civilization is built around fire and flammable fuels, this is leading to more fires and explosions. This is an extinction level event and will likely decimate both the biosphere and human population and it is debatable whether humankind can survive this event.

A. More fires and more explosions, especially along the coasts, but everywhere generally.
B. Many more animal die-offs, of all kinds, and especially oceanic species.
C. More multiples of people will be found dead in their homes, as if they'd dropped dead.
D. More corpses found in low-lying areas, all over the world.
E. More unusual vehicular accidents.
F. Improved unemployment numbers as people die off.

  1. Great lede again today, Jonny! Ya know, when freakin' scrap metal goes up in flames for no apparent reason and is difficult to extinguish, something is going on that "ain't kosher." And how about 20,000 TONS of woodchips?! Geez - that'll make a nice bonfire.

Big blazes on the coasts are becoming more common. Train derailments and boats burning are also increasing in number.
Zombies too! There goes another fire truck.

Red Bull world champ dies in California jet crash

[ace aviator goes out with a bang]

APPLE VALLEY, Calif. — A two-time world champion Red Bull air racer has died in a jet crash in Southern California.

The company announced Monday that 60-year-old Mike Mangold was one of two people killed in Sunday's crash at Apple Valley Airport northeast of Los Angeles.

Authorities say the two were in an L-39 — a high-performance jet trainer developed in Czechoslovakia — when it crashed in a fireball shortly after takeoff. The other person on board hasn't been identified.

Mangold, a graduate of the famous Air Force "Top Gun" fighter school, flew jets for American Airlines and competed in the Red Bull Air Race World Championship, winning the overall title in 2005 and 2007.

ORLANDO, Fla. _ A 22-year-old burglary suspect trying to evade authorities was killed by an 11-foot alligator last month, the Brevard County Sheriff's Office said.

Graph of the Day: Simulated catastrophic decline of plankton in warming oceans

Since the ocean plankton produces altogether more than one half of the total atmospheric oxygen, it would mean oxygen depletion not only in the water but also in the air. Should it happen, it would obviously kill most of life on Earth.

  2. Fear at the tap: Uranium contaminates water in the West

FRESNO, Calif. — In a trailer park tucked among irrigated orchards that help make California's San Joaquin Valley the richest farm region in the world, 16-year-old Giselle Alvarez, one of the few English-speakers in the community of farmworkers, puzzles over the notices posted on front doors: There's a danger in their drinking water.

Uranium, the notices warn, tests at a level considered unsafe by federal and state standards. The law requires the park's owner to post the warnings. But they are awkwardly worded and mostly in English, a language few of the park's dozens of Spanish-speaking families can read.

"It says you can drink the water — but if you drink the water over a period of time, you can get cancer," said Alvarez, whose working-class family has no choice but keep drinking and cooking with the tainted tap water. "They really don't explain."

Uranium, the stuff of nuclear fuel for power plants and atom bombs, increasingly is showing in drinking water systems in major farming regions of the U.S. West — a natural though unexpected byproduct of irrigation, drought, and the overpumping of natural underground water reserves.

An Associated Press investigation in California's central farm valleys — along with the U.S. Central Plains, among the areas most affected — found authorities are doing little to inform the public at large of the risk. [more]

  3. Heavy rains saturate Portland, northwest Oregon, causing flooding, landslides, sewer overflow

Heavy rains turned streets in the Portland area into creeks, interrupted bus and light rail service and forced the evacuation of at least one neighborhood.

Monday's flooding caused the closure of numerous roads, and heavy rains triggered landslides.

The rain also caused Portland's sewer system to overflow into the Willamette River. Officials said people should avoid contact with the river for at least 48 hours because of bacteria in the water.

A big sinkhole developed in a street in Gresham, a Portland suburb. Crews were pumping water from an elementary school in Gresham, as well as cleaning up hallways and classrooms.

Strong winds and High Waves hit Arctic Ocean

Strong winds and high waves are hitting the Arctic Ocean from both the Atkantic [sic] Ocean and the Pacific Ocean.

Above image shows waves as high as 12.36 m or 40.5 ft near Greenland on December 8, 2015.

The image on the right shows cyclonic winds with speeds as high as 142 km/h or 88 mph near Greenland on December 8, 2015.

The situation looks set to get even worse. The image further down on the right shows that waves as high as 14.04 m or 46.1 ft are forecast to hit the Bering Strait on December 13, 2015.

The video below, created with Climate Reanalyzer images, shows strong winds over the period from December 5 to 15, 2015. The video illustrates how cyclonic winds are hitting the Arctic Ocean both from the Atlantic Ocean and the Pacific Ocean.

As warming continues, this situation can be expected to get worse, with extreme weather events hitting the Arctic Ocean with ever greater intensity.

Strong winds can dramatically speed up the currents that are moving sea ice out of the Arctic Ocean into the Atlantic Ocean. The Naval Research Laboratory animation below shows how strong winds are pushing the sea ice out of the Arctic Ocean along the edge of Greenland into the Atlantic Ocean.

The Naval Research Laboratory animation below illustrates that the thicker sea ice has hardly grown recently, while large amounts of thick sea ice also get pushed out of the Arctic Ocean along the edge of Greenland into the Atlantic Ocean.

This danger is that the sea ice will [be] in a very bad shape when the melting season starts again next year.

  5. Bacteria containing mcr-1 gene resistant to all known antibiotics found in Denmark

December 2015 – DENMARK – (HEALTH NEWS) – Just weeks after the discovery in China of bacteria resistant to all known forms of treatment, the same strain has been found in Denmark. Worse: It’s been there since 2012. Late last week researchers at the Technical University of Denmark announced they had found the feared ‘invulnerability’ gene among E. coli bacteria samples taken from humans and food. The scientists had been conducting a review of a genetic database of some 3000 different E. coli samples taken since 2009. Specifically they were seeking the mcr-1 gene, a mutation which gives bacteria a frightening resistance to the last effective family of antibiotics — colistin.
According to a press statement accompanying the publication of their study in the science journal Lancet, the search revealed a patient suffering from a blood infection earlier this year had the super-resistant bacteria. Five more examples of bacteria containing the mcr-1 gene were found among samples taken from food imported between 2012 and 2014. Danish researchers fear the untreatable superbug is now firmly embedded in Europe. The man suffering the blood infection had not travelled outside the country and the infected imports were German poultry products. The Chinese outbreak of mcr-1 containing bacteria was found among pigs and people early last month. What makes mcr-1 such a threat, other than its immunity to all known antibiotics, is that it can spread fast. It has been found to reside in plasmids, mobile ‘packets’ of DNA which can be copied and transferred between different bacteria.
