Note: Now you see why I call this crash scenario 'the standard model' for these days. This same exact scenario keeps playing out over and over: car veers off road, hits tree, bursts into flame. Often it's fatal. And all of these vehicles bursting into flame is not normal. Remember when people used to make fun of Hollywood because on TV crashes would so often result in fires and explosions? People used to relentlessly mock Hollywood for the unrealism. Looks pretty realistic now!

Note: Minor crash, little damage, but the driver didn't get out, so he burned to death. Often when it's the front landing gear (nose gear) that collapses on these small planes, the plane flips over. Note: Here's the brake-friction and absorbency problem again. Tire rubber is semi-absorbent and it is absorbing hydrogen sulfide and/or methane, probably the former since tires rest on the ground and hydrogen sulfide is a heavier-than-air gas. Then when brakes are applied - like after a plane lands - the heat generated by the brake-friction is hotter than normal (since hydrogen sulfide burns very hot), and then bad things can happen: brakes burn out or ignite, tires ignite or explode, fluid lines rupture, the entire vehicle goes up on flames, or all of the above. This affects all vehicles with tires, and the more massive the vehicle and the more tires it has, the more likely this problem will manifest. That means that this problem is mostly hitting ground vehicles like tanker trucks, tractor trailers, dump trucks, cement trucks, buses, RVs, etc. So far as planes are concerned, the most extreme 'blown tire' event so far was when a jumbo jet blew FOURTEEN TIRES after landing in coastal Anchorage (Alaska), as mentioned in the 2013-09-11 update...

Note: Tire rubber is absorbing hydrogen sulfide and/or methane, probably the former because hydrogen sulfide is a heavier-than-air gas and tires rest on the ground. This causes the heat from brake-friction to be hotter than normal and brakes burn up, tires ignite or explode, fluid lines rupture and leak, and sometimes the entire vehicle goes up in flames. So far as planes are concerned, the most extreme example of this was a jumbo jet that blew FOURTEEN TIRES as it landed in coastal Anchorage (Alaska), as mentioned in the 2012-09-11 update. This is affecting all vehicles with tires, and it affects massive vehicles (tanker trucks, car-haulers, dump trucks, tractor trailers, buses, RVs, etc) the most because they tend to have more tires and it takes more brake-friction to slow such vehicles...

Note: This is what I call 'the standard model' for recent vehicular accidents. Some of these accidents are likely caused by the driver getting a whiff of hydrogen sulfide and losing consciousness and crashing, then fire breaks out more easily than normal (since hydrogen sulfide is also a highly flammable gas). Some of these accidents are also surely caused by the tire absorbency and brake-friction problem, where tire rubber absorbs hydrogen sulfide over time, causing brake-friction to burn hotter than normal, resulting in fried brakes, ruptured brake lines or power steering lines, tires igniting or exploding, the entire vehicle going up in flames, or all of the above...

Note: An incident very much like this happened recently in California, where a tour bus's brakes went out near coastal Los Angeles (California) and the bus ended up crashing and killing 8 people and injuring more, as mentioned in the 2013-02-03 update. Hydrogen sulfide and/or methane are being absorbed into tire rubber, probably mostly hydrogen sulfide since it's a heavier-than-air gas and tires rest on the ground. Then when brakes are applied, the brake-friction generates more heat than normal (since hydrogen sulfide burns very hot) and then bad things can happen: brakes burn up or ignite, tires ignite or explode, fluid lines rupture, sometimes the entire vehicle goes up in flame (as just happened to two tractor trailers and a truck in one day, as mentioned in the 2013-03-07 update). This problem is hitting larger vehicles the worst, because A) they have more rubber; and B) they have lots of mass, which means more brake-friction required to slow, which means more chance this problem will manifest. It affects planes too; they are blowing tires and sometimes having their landing gear collapse, mostly after landing (when they tend to hit their brakes the hardest)...

Note: As mentioned, hydrogen sulfide and/or methane are being absorbed into tire rubber, which is a semi-absorbent material. It's probably mostly hydrogen sulfide because it's a heavier-than-air gas and tires rest on the ground. Then when brakes are applied the brake-friction generates more heat than it would normally (because hydrogen sulfide burns very hot) and the bad things happen: brakes get fried or ignite, tires ignite or explode, power steering lines or hydraulic lines or brake lines rupture from the heat, the vehicle goes up in flames, or all of the above. This tends to happen more to heavy vehicles like buses and tractor trailers and tanker trucks because more mass requires more brake-friction to slow. Massive vehicles often have more tires too, e.g. more rubber that can be contaminated. An incident very much like this happened recently in California, where a tour bus's brakes went out near coastal Los Angeles (California) and the bus ended up crashing and killing 8 people and injuring dozens more, as mentioned in the 2013-02-03 update. There are a growing number of incidents just like this...

Then when brakes are applied, the brake-friction heat is hotter than normal (because hydrogen sulfide burns very hot) and that extra heat burns or explodes tires, burns up fluid lines, catches the vehicle on fire, or all of the above. There've been a lot of planes this last year with blown tires or 'landing gear problems', but there have also been many with 'hydraulic problems'. I think it's the same underlying cause: the extra heat is blowing tires sometimes, rupturing hydraulic lines sometimes (in which case they can still lower the wheels manually, as in this case)...
