The problem is that hydrogen sulfide is being absorbed into tire rubber and brake pads. Then when brakes are applied - which for planes is mostly right after landing - an unusual amount of heat is generated, since hydrogen sulfide burns very hot. Then bad things can happen: tires explode or ignite, brakes burn out or ignite, fluid lines rupture, the entire vehicle goes up in flames, or all of the above. This problem hits massive vehicles the worst, but no vehicle is immune...

Note: Trains have brakes and brake pads just like other vehicles. Hydrogen sulfide will fry train brakes just like any other brakes, then when the driver needs to brake, he or she may find out that the brakes aren't working. When it's a car, it may hit a tree or something, maybe a few people injured. When it's a big honking TRAIN though, a massive number of casualties is a very real possibility. Note: Brake failure has been happening with increasing frequency. Hydrogen sulfide is being absorbed into tire rubber and brake pads. Then when brakes are applied, an abnormal amount of heat is generated, since hydrogen sulfide burns very hot. Then bad things can happen: tires explode or ignite, brakes burn out or ignite, fluid lines rupture, the entire vehicle goes up in flames, or all of the above. This problem affects massive vehicles the most - like buses - but no vehicle is immune. It's probably best not to count on your brakes working. That way you won't be surprised when you hit your brakes and nothing happens...

Note: A thousand people evacuated, at least 5 killed, many people missing and feared dead in the inferno, 30 buildings destroyed, town utterly devastated. As you can tell from the name, this town is right on a lake, which has the same name as the town. Some reports say the train was parked and took off on its own, gathering speed until it hit town, unmanned, then derailed, burst into flame and several fuel tanker cars exploded. If that is so then that would not be the first time that an umanned vehicle has taken off on its own. There are two possible reasons for this: 1) hydrogen sulfide is being absorbed into brake pads and tires and frying brakes; and 2) hydrogen sulfide is reactive with copper, especially electrified copper like wiring in vehicles.

 

Thus I highly suspect that small fires are sometimes breaking out around wiring in vehicles, frying off the insulation, then wires touch and the vehicle basically 'hot-wires' itself. The most notable example of this so far was in May, when a boat burst into flame, started itself, then took off across Coffs Harbor in Australia, smashing into other vessels, as mentioned in the 2013-05-03 update. Could be that this Canadian tragedy was the same scenario, except it was a train instead of a boat this time. Just think about that: trains starting themselves while hauling dangerous and/or flammable chemicals and turning into high-speed mobile bombs. Holy sh#t! Fortunately, I don't think this will be very common, as the fire has to start in just the right place and the right wires have to be near each other and make contact. Still, it looks like this will be a problem from time to time, and sometimes the consequences will be devastating...
