Event Update For 2018-01-30

The seas, lakes and oceans are now pluming deadly hydrogen sulfide and suffocating methane. Hydrogen sulfide is a highly toxic water-soluble heavier-than-air gas and will accumulate in low-lying areas. Methane is slightly more buoyant than normal air and so will be all around, but will tend to contaminate our atmosphere from the top down. These gases are sickening and killing oxygen-using life all around the world, including human life, as our atmosphere is increasingly poisoned. Because both gases are highly flammable and because our entire civilization is built around fire and flammable fuels, this is leading to more fires and explosions. This is an extinction level event and will likely decimate both the biosphere and human population and it is debatable whether humankind can survive this event.

A. More fires and more explosions, especially along the coasts, but everywhere generally.
B. Many more animal die-offs, of all kinds, and especially oceanic species.
C. More multiples of people will be found dead in their homes, as if they'd dropped dead.
D. More corpses found in low-lying areas, all over the world.
E. More unusual vehicular accidents.
F. Improved unemployment numbers as people die off.

  3. Somebody figured out that cutting off food and water to suffering American citizens who mostly don't even have their electricity back makes for bad optics after giving huge tax breaks to rich people and corporations? Shocking! Shocking that somebody figured out that was a bad idea (not to mention mean-spirited and cruel) before they did it, not that somebody wanted to do it.

NOAA's dodgy 'climate and global change' fellowships axed

[SOTT]Comment: The US under Trump's administration has been working to axe those programs which are known to distort data and subvert science in favor of the global warming scam. While these programs could be beneficial, as they are, they're doing their field as disservice. Hopefully, with them gone, real science will make a come back [more; see list of SOTT articles]

Trump budget seeks 72 percent cut to clean energy research, underscoring preference for fossil fuels – “It shows that we’ve made no inroads in terms of convincing the administration of our value”

he Trump administration is poised to ask Congress for deep budget cuts to the Energy Department’s renewable energy and energy efficiency programs, slashing them by 72 percent overall in fiscal 2019, according to draft budget documents obtained by The Washington Post.
Many of the sharp cuts would probably be restored by Congress, but President Trump’s budget, due out in February, will mark a starting point for negotiations and offer a statement of intent and policy priorities.
The document underscores the administration’s continued focus on the exploitation of fossil fuel resources— or, as Trump put it in his State of the Union address, “beautiful clean coal” — over newer renewable technologies seen as a central solution to the problem of climate change. [more]

Ok, you can all skip this part [personal rant]

Ok. I get it, fossil fuels aren't going to give up their position of power, even with the realization that the use of this fuel KILLS US (by destroying habitat for myriad species, including us).

So if you're PRO - that stance, like SOTT apparently, you print complete HORSESHIT that gullible knuckleheads who haven't the capacity for contemplation accept as truth. And you're on the side of Government and the mainstream media. Hollywood uses climatic apocalypse movies to MAKE MONEY, not because they care about their huge, unsustainable fossil fuel footprint.

So my opinion amounts to so much dog shit - and I get it, completely. I actually agree!

It's all out the window now, folks - believe whatever you want; "it's all good," when it most certainly isn't. You don't have to "believe in" science (or religion), but to not even LISTEN to reason - measurable, analyzable, logical, scientific reason - as opposed to what we're ACTUALLY doing, is beyond idiotic, it's suicidal (genocidal, mass homicidal, ecocidal).

Conclusion: we're fucked! We are now living in a version of the movie Brazil - it just gets more insane every day

Whitefish Energy spent $150,000 lobbying Congress after Puerto Rico disaster

The small Montana energy company that botched the critical rebuilding of Puerto Rico in the aftermath of Hurricane Maria spent $150,000 lobbying Congress last quarter amid investigations, a disclosure report filed Friday shows.
The fourth quarter lobbying report shows that Whitefish paid the law firm Foley & Lardner to have five representatives lobby the Senate and House on the company’s behalf.

What the firm was specifically hired to accomplish is unclear.

EPA announces $236M plan to clean up suburban St. Louis landfill

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has announced a $236 million plan to clean up a suburban St. Louis landfill where Cold War-era nuclear waste was illegally dumped decades ago. The EPA said Thursday the plan calls for removing all of the radioactive contamination that poses a health risk by partially excavating the West Lake Landfill in Bridgeton.

Crews will also install a permanent "engineered cover system" at the site to ensure long-term protection of the five-year project, according to CBS St. Louis. [more; how "permanent" is that in years?]

At Climate Feedback, scientists encourage better science reporting. But who is listening?

THE EARTH IS 15 YEARS AWAY from a “mini ice age” “that will cause bitterly cold winters during which rivers such as the Thames freeze over.” That was the claim that kicked off an article in The Telegraph in July 2015.

That assertion doubtless had many climate scientists rolling their eyes. But rather than just ranting on Twitter or screaming into a throw pillow, this time they had an outlet they could use to set the record straight. Emmanuel Vincent, a climate scientist, had launched, a site where climate scientists rate the scientific credibility of climate change reporting.

“I don’t think we are exactly a fact-checking operation,” Vincent says. Unlike PolitiFact or, Climate Feedback’s assessments come from scientists, not journalists. And the reviewers go beyond checking facts. “We try to ask scientists to also check the reasoning, the argumentation, and explanation of the facts. That’s really what science is about,” Vincent says.
