Event Update For 2017-11-15

The seas, lakes and oceans are now pluming deadly hydrogen sulfide and suffocating methane. Hydrogen sulfide is a highly toxic water-soluble heavier-than-air gas and will accumulate in low-lying areas. Methane is slightly more buoyant than normal air and so will be all around, but will tend to contaminate our atmosphere from the top down. These gases are sickening and killing oxygen-using life all around the world, including human life, as our atmosphere is increasingly poisoned. Because both gases are highly flammable and because our entire civilization is built around fire and flammable fuels, this is leading to more fires and explosions. This is an extinction level event and will likely decimate both the biosphere and human population and it is debatable whether humankind can survive this event.

A. More fires and more explosions, especially along the coasts, but everywhere generally.
B. Many more animal die-offs, of all kinds, and especially oceanic species.
C. More multiples of people will be found dead in their homes, as if they'd dropped dead.
D. More corpses found in low-lying areas, all over the world.
E. More unusual vehicular accidents.
F. Improved unemployment numbers as people die off.

  1. Geez, what a day this was! 30 car pile-up in China, air and water quality becoming unsupportive of life in India and Florida (and other places), awful car crashes by dead drivers, Hull with a triple play, and 3 naked guy incidents. Add to that all the earthquakes, flooding and sinkhole and it's plain to see where this is leading.

I'm not liking that weather forecast for Thanksgiving week. I'll be giving thanks that my old heater can pull me through another winter. Last time I had it "tuned up" the service person said it will have to be replaced soon, because the cheap piece of metal they made that distributes the gas (think of your gas barbecue grill - that same piece which leads to the burners, at the bottom) is corroded and eaten away so that the igniting propane actually blows out the flame occasionally. Since it's about 10 years old, that part isn't available any longer (would have cost ~ $50).

US: Polar vortex to bring 'extended period of severe winter weather', amidst already record breaking cold

[looks like this will impact me more than you, Jonny, while Fran will be ABOVE average]

[SOTT] Comment: Siberian snow theory points to early, frigid winter in U.S.

"I think the combination of La Niña and an anticipated disruption of the polar vortex could focus the worst of this winter's weather around the Great Lakes," said Judah Cohen, a meteorologist at Atmospheric and Environmental Research, a firm specializing in environmental research.

Although there's no immediate signs of weakening in the polar vortex, that could happen by January, Cohen said.

"All indicators favor a cold winter in the eastern U.S.," according to the report. "The combination of cold and wet could result in an above normal snow season for parts of the northern U.S., including the large population centers of the northeastern U.S." [more]

As the storm moves into the Midwest and Tennessee Valley, strong to possibly severe storms could develop on Saturday. The biggest threat with these storms will be damaging winds, and possibly tornadoes.

By Saturday evening, the storm system moves into the Northeast with heavy rain and wind from Washington, D.C. to Boston. Delays at major airports in the region are likely due to the gusty winds and low visibility. [more; nice to know what we're up against]

Mystery Aircraft Confirmed Flying Over Oregon

Something flew over the west coast in late October, that much we know. But the mystery plane disappeared before anyone could figure out what it was and has defied all attempts at identification since. Was it a classified U.S. government aircraft, a flying saucer, or something else?

One of the Reddit users quoted by the article thinks it was an aircraft running drugs to Canada. While anything’s possible, the “aircraft” was not keeping a low profile in the way you would expect a smuggler to. The mystery aircraft was flying a conspicuous flight path, traveling during broad daylight, and passing multiple passenger aircraft. [more]

  10. Accounting ‘Gimmicks’ in G.O.P.’s Tax Overhaul Mask Higher Cost, Deficit Hawks Say

As Republicans march forward with their $1.5 trillion tax bill, budget experts are warning about what they say are an alarming array of accounting gimmicks intended to mask the true cost of the tax cuts.
The maneuvers come in many forms, like phasing in certain cuts over a period of years and making some cuts “temporary” with the full expectation that they will never actually be allowed to expire.
“In some ways, this whole bill is a gimmick,” Stan Collender, a former staff member for Democrats on the House and Senate Budget Committees, said of the Senate tax bill. “Rather than just do a tax cut that costs $1.5 trillion, they decided to do a $2 trillion-plus tax cut and lie about it costing $1.5 trillion.” [more]

A new MIT study, published online this week in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, reports that as climate change progresses, the city of Houston, and Texas in general, will face an increasing risk of devastating, Harvey-scale rainfall.
According to the study, the state of Texas had a 1 percent chance of experiencing rainfall of Harvey’s magnitude for any given year between 1981 and 2000. By the end of this century, the annual probability of Hurricane Harvey’s record rainfall returning to Texas will rise to 18 percent, if the growth of greenhouse gas emissions to the atmosphere continues unmitigated.
