Event Update For 2016-01-17

The seas, lakes and oceans are now pluming deadly hydrogen sulfide and suffocating methane. Hydrogen sulfide is a highly toxic water-soluble heavier-than-air gas and will accumulate in low-lying areas. Methane is slightly more buoyant than normal air and so will be all around, but will tend to contaminate our atmosphere from the top down. These gases are sickening and killing oxygen-using life all around the world, including human life, as our atmosphere is increasingly poisoned. Because both gases are highly flammable and because our entire civilization is built around fire and flammable fuels, this is leading to more fires and explosions. This is an extinction level event and will likely decimate both the biosphere and human population and it is debatable whether humankind can survive this event.

A. More fires and more explosions, especially along the coasts, but everywhere generally.
B. Many more animal die-offs, of all kinds, and especially oceanic species.
C. More multiples of people will be found dead in their homes, as if they'd dropped dead.
D. More corpses found in low-lying areas, all over the world.
E. More unusual vehicular accidents.
F. Improved unemployment numbers as people die off.

Note: I bet that medical emergency is what killed him too, because the RV doesn't look damaged and the child was uninjured. You just can't count on staying conscious (or even alive) when driving nowadays - or when NOT driving, for that matter - especially near coasts or other low-lying areas like valleys, canyons, ravines, ditches, rivers, streams, lakes, ponds, dams, etc...

Quote: "It was unclear how John Quattrocchi caught fire, but a law-enforcement source said it may have been a suicide attempt."

Note: So it may not have been a suicide attempt. Maybe it was just another person bursting into flame, like the woman who burst into flame while sitting at an oceanfront park bench in coastal Flensburg (Germany), mentioned in the 2015-11-05 update. People burning themselves on purpose is a pretty rare thing in the US, seeing as there are lots of much nicer ways to off yourself than that. And right off the US East Coast there are 5 trillion pounds of explosively flammable methane dissociating...

'Touchdown speed was OK, but a leg lockout didn’t latch, so it tipped over after landing,' Musk said in a tweet Sunday."

Note: Looks like they've almost got it! I wonder if they've considered putting a big hydraulic platform on the landing ship that would automatically adjust to the waves and remain perfectly level. Seems like that wouldn't be too hard to do, and then they wouldn't have to worry about the rocket landing on a non-level swaying surface. It might cost more upfront to build ships with such platforms, but they'd probably save a lot of money in the long run on the rockets that don't crash and/or explode...

Firefighters battle large brush fire in south Wichita; associated with loud, mysterious booms?

There's no word yet on what caused the fire.

Comment: Interestingly, Witchita experienced mysterious loud explosions on the same day, so perhaps a fragment of an exploding, disintegrating space rock overhead hit the ground and ignited the local vegetation? It does seem highly likely [oh, sure - something from outer space as the cause; I think JJFH is MUCH more likely, but SOTT staff haven't come across it yet.]
