Event Update For 2014-10-11

The seas, lakes and oceans are now pluming deadly hydrogen sulfide and suffocating methane. Hydrogen sulfide is a highly toxic water-soluble heavier-than-air gas and will accumulate in low-lying areas. Methane is slightly more buoyant than normal air and so will be all around, but will tend to contaminate our atmosphere from the top down. These gases are sickening and killing oxygen-using life all around the world, including human life, as our atmosphere is increasingly poisoned. Because both gases are highly flammable and because our entire civilization is built around fire and flammable fuels, this is leading to more fires and explosions. This is an extinction level event and will likely decimate both the biosphere and human population and it is debatable whether humankind can survive this event.

A. More fires and more explosions, especially along the coasts, but everywhere generally.
B. Many more animal die-offs, of all kinds, and especially oceanic species.
C. More multiples of people will be found dead in their homes, as if they'd dropped dead.
D. More corpses found in low-lying areas, all over the world.
E. More unusual vehicular accidents.
F. Improved unemployment numbers as people die off.

Category: Fires And Explosions

2014-10-11 - Serious underground electrical explosion and fire hits downtown Calgary (Canada), blackouts ensue:

Quote: "Stinking smoke billowed from the open manhole, with blue flames occasionally shooting out into the night as well. Firefighters called the situation, largely invisible from the surface save for the smoke and quick spouts of flames, 'a serious underground fire.'"

Quote: "A 'freak' underground fire downtown has sparked power outages for thousands of residents, snarled traffic, injured an ATCO employee, and even cut water pressure for some in a large swath of downtown. An estimated 5,000 Enmax customers and 2,100 area businesses will be without power for as long as a week."

Quote: "The damage from an underground fire in downtown Calgary Saturday night was extensive, 'completely destroying' the electrical infrastructure involved, said utility company Enmax. Because of the extent of the damage, utility crews will have to replace not only the damaged part of the electrical system, but also many connecting parts from across the city."

2014-10-11 - Underground electrical fire breaks out and fuse box ignites separately in the wee hours in coastal Brighton (Britain):

Quote: "Firefighters were called to EAT in North Street, next to Waterstone’s, at 2.15am. Three crews from Preston Circus Fire Station attended the scene but had to wait for UK Power Networks to cut off the electrical supply before putting out the blaze. The damage was contained to the fuse box and no-one was hurt. A manhole cover in Whitehawk Road also caught alight but no-one was injured."

Note: Hydrogen sulfide is highly flammable and it is reactive with rusty iron/steel and electrified copper, both likely to be found in underground infrastructure, and it is a heavier-than-air gas which will seek out low-lying areas. Methane is also leaking from the ground in many areas now and may accumulate in underground areas. As a consequence, there have been increasing numbers of underground fires and explosions, especially underground electrical fires and explosions. The biggest underground explosion so far (not counting the recent gigantic Siberian methane explosion craters) occurred this past July and devastated the city of Kaohsiung on the island of Taiwan, killing dozens and injuring hundreds, mentioned in the 2014-07-31 update.

It's probably wise now to assume your electrical power will be cut at some point for an extended period of time, so you might want to have a 'power outage kit' handy, containing whatever you'd want to have immediately available if you lose power for a week or a month. Flashlights, solar battery chargers, rechargeable batteries, crank-powered emergency radio, decks of cards, board games, books, etc. Food and water and medicines too. Better to be prepared for it than not...

The power box, located outside Mackey’s unit, was on fire. The box was closed, so the flames were spewing out from the cracks on the sides, Mackey said."

2014-10-11 - Van, SUV and car destroyed by fire just before 5:30 AM while parked in Springfield (Massachusetts):

Note: They say arson, but A) they show no evidence of people being involved and B) they haven't eliminated accidental causes like hydrogen sulfide's reactivity with rust or electrified copper, and competent investigators eliminate accidental causes first. If they aren't going to act like compentent investigators then there's no reason to believe their conclusions...

2014-10-11 - Brakes fail, tanker truck crashes off bridge, explodes and burns, in Ibadan (Nigeria), many killed, many injured:

Quote: "An eye witness told News Express that the tanker was coming from Challenge area of the town and that the driver was shouting aloud to alert people of brake failure, before the tanker finally fell, spilled its content and caught fire immediately. Many passers-by and people who were waiting to board cabs under the famous Molete Bridge cried for help as they were attacked by tongues of fire."

Quote: "In the resulting inferno, many people, including a mother and two of her children, were said to have lost their lives. Many others, who ran for cover inside their shops were also said to have been consumed by the fire, while many vehicles, motor bikes and some buildings in the area were destroyed."

Note: I've warned about this problem many times. Tires and brake pads are absorbing hydrogen sulfide. Then when brakes are applied, an unusual amount of heat is generated, since hydrogen sulfide burns very hot. Then bad things can happen: tires explode or ignite, brakes burn out or ignite, fluid lines rupture, the entire vehicle goes up in flames, or all of the above. This problem hits massive vehicles the worst - like fire trucks, buses, tanker trucks, etc - but no vehicle is immune. Best not to count on your brakes working when you need them to since that way you won't be surprised when you hit the brakes and nothing happens. And if you smell ANYTHING burning while driving, you might want to stop immediately (if you can) and see what it is...
