Event Update For 2017-04-30

The seas, lakes and oceans are now pluming deadly hydrogen sulfide and suffocating methane. Hydrogen sulfide is a highly toxic water-soluble heavier-than-air gas and will accumulate in low-lying areas. Methane is slightly more buoyant than normal air and so will be all around, but will tend to contaminate our atmosphere from the top down. These gases are sickening and killing oxygen-using life all around the world, including human life, as our atmosphere is increasingly poisoned. Because both gases are highly flammable and because our entire civilization is built around fire and flammable fuels, this is leading to more fires and explosions. This is an extinction level event and will likely decimate both the biosphere and human population and it is debatable whether humankind can survive this event.

A. More fires and more explosions, especially along the coasts, but everywhere generally.
B. Many more animal die-offs, of all kinds, and especially oceanic species.
C. More multiples of people will be found dead in their homes, as if they'd dropped dead.
D. More corpses found in low-lying areas, all over the world.
E. More unusual vehicular accidents.
F. Improved unemployment numbers as people die off.

Note: Other deaths mentioned in the story too. Hydrogen sulfide is water-soluble, so if you get any contaminated water on you, especially on your HEAD, you're apt to die, and it will mostly look like 'natural causes' (if you drop dead later) or like 'drowning' (when they find your corpse in the water). The best way to tell if water is safe is to douse your head with it. If you don't die then it was safe. Municipal water supplies are more likely to be safe than random outdoor water sources, but there's no guarantee either way - plenty of people have been found slumped-over dead in saunas, hot tubs, swimming pools, bathtubs, etc. 41 children and some animals died after rainfall in Papua (Indonesia), mentioned in the 2015-11-24 update, so even RAIN could possibly be contaminated and deadly now. Not always, at least not yet, but sporadically, randomly. How many of the young healthy people who have mysteriously dropped dead had gotten rained on in the hours or days before they dropped dead? How many had gone swimming, or put their head under water in a shower or bathtub? How many had smelled something 'flowery' or 'sweet' before they dropped dead? We'll never know...

  2. Mass death of reindeer attributed to too much snow and ice for them to paw through.

One more thing about rain as murder weapon of ice and snow. It has been linked to the decline of caribou. They have evolved to paw through snow, to get the lichens. They have not evolved to break ice to get lichens. When one of these rain events comes along in the winter, they can produce a really thick ice layer on top of a snowpack .
I can think of four other creatures that are facing this same problem . Musk Ox, buffalo, mice, and owls.
This idea of rain falling where it shouldn’t, and when it shouldn’t , is a real biological feedback loop, as well as a geophysical feedback loop.

Police: Motive unclear for University of Texas stabbings

A student with a large hunting knife stabbed at least four people on the University of Texas campus, killing one and seriously wounding the others before surrendering to police, authorities said.

There was no immediate word about a motive.

The attacker did not resist when officers confronted him at gunpoint, Carter said.

Lindsey Clark said she saw the suspect get tackled by police as he was running toward the entrance of Jester Hall, a complex of dormitories and classrooms. She described him as wearing a bandanna and gray sweatshirt and said he appeared quiet and subdued as police held him on the ground. [more]

  5. Wow! Nice job on the month end cavalcade of doom, Jonny! Geez, that's a lot of work.

To add my meager contribution to the month end tally:

Hull has had FAR more incidents than any other place, bar none. This past month saw 24 JJFH incidents with many being multiple incident days, including a rare 4-occurrence day and another 3-incident day!

Garbage trucks have fallen off to a mere 6 this month.

    Yearly totals to date:

Hull with 81 incidents in 56 actual days [for a REAL average of over 1 per day] or 120 days in calendar time [for a standard average or rate of about 1/2 an incident per day, which makes little sense, except for projection purposes and tends to discount or lessen the fact].

Garbage trucks are burning up at a rate of 42 trucks in 29 actual days [about 1.5 per day] or the same 120 calendar days [or about 1/3 truck per day avg rate of loss]

More Than 90 Scientists Release Report That Arctic Is ‘Unraveling’

    [won't see this on SOTT]

The National Snow and Ice Center reported that Arctic sea ice in March 2017 was the lowest it has ever been for the month of March since satellites began recording sea ice extent 38 years ago. NASA noted that between 1976 and 1996 average sea ice loss in the Arctic was 8,300 square miles per year. Between 1996 and 2013, this number more than doubled to 19,500 square miles per year. This rapid loss of sea ice in the Arctic contributes not just to rising sea levels, but it reduces the properties of sea ice that reflect the sun’s radiation back into space rather than absorb it like the ocean does, contributing even further to global warming. A recent report that boasts contributions from more than 90 scientists detailed the drastic impacts climate change is having on the Arctic, a region of earth that is warming more than twice as fast as the rest of the planet. ZH: Why Is The VIX So Low And Complacency So High?
"Clearly 'earnings growth' is an ENORMOUS factor right now"

    'Earnings growth' visualized [see chart]

We've never seen this before - a collapsing earnings yield (E/P) and quiescent VIX [graph]

Also, Energy is expected to contribute 43% of Q1 earnings growth.

Here is what Energy stock investors think about forward prospects for Energy earnings and how that correlates with the price of Oil [see graph]

Then there is the other major reason for the imploding VIX, cited in the same article above:

"short vol' isn't just an institutional trade anymore, it's massive with retail as evidenced by the shares outstanding in the various VIX ETNs.  FT highlighted over the weekend that ‘short interest’ in VXX has actually outpaced creation of new shares in VXX this years, which is indicative of this growing retail demand for the ‘strategy.’  Currently per my stock loan team, VXX short utilization spiked to an insane 95% yesterday (% of the ‘free shares’ being used to short)."

Momentum AND shorting volatility. Two things that implode great together [see chart; more follows]

    Humanity at a Crossroads

“The evidence is gaining increasing clarity: We’ve reached a crossroads unlike any other in human history. One path leads to despair for Homo industrialis. The other leads to extinction, for Homo sapiens and the millions of species we are taking with us into the abyss. I’d love to choose Door Number One. Unfortunately, we collectively selected Door Number Two long ago.”—Guy McPherson [essay follows]
