Event Update For 2020-03-21

http://jumpingjackflashhypothesis.blogspot.com/2012/02/jumping-jack-flash-hypothesis-its-gas.html

The seas, lakes and oceans are now pluming deadly hydrogen sulfide and suffocating methane. Hydrogen sulfide is a highly toxic water-soluble heavier-than-air gas and will accumulate in low-lying areas. Methane is slightly more buoyant than normal air and so will be all around, but will tend to contaminate our atmosphere from the top down. These gases are sickening and killing oxygen-using life all around the world, including human life, as our atmosphere is increasingly poisoned. Because both gases are highly flammable and because our entire civilization is built around fire and flammable fuels, this is leading to more fires and explosions. This is an extinction level event and will likely decimate both the biosphere and human population and it is debatable whether humankind can survive this event.

A. More fires and more explosions, especially along the coasts, but everywhere generally.
B. Many more animal die-offs, of all kinds, and especially oceanic species.
C. More multiples of people will be found dead in their homes, as if they'd dropped dead.
D. More corpses found in low-lying areas, all over the world.
E. More unusual vehicular accidents.
F. Improved unemployment numbers as people die off.

  1. Good morning Jonny, Fran, Mike D., Tom N., LL, Terry, FezzedOne, and Panther. Rolling right along (toward Martial Law). Still working from home in my house, but i don't see this going on beyond the semester (early May). Even the multinational corporation my wife works at is going to have problems staying open, as workers in all the other fields that they service are staying home and the sites shutting down. On top of that the company was hacked a month ago by pros and their entire computer system (in the words of the I/T people) is "totally fucked." They've been slowly rebuilding it but with the virus slowing them down now.

My son in CA is sick & thinks he may have the symptoms of the virus, and i'm not surprised because the hospital is about the WORST place you can be during a pandemic! They haven't even stopped doing elective surgery on anyone - and they don't test for COVID-19 upon admission! JEEZ!

No One Alive Has Experienced An Economic Plunge This Sudden
    https://strangesounds.org/2020/03/recession-pandemic-america-world.html

To quantify the present reality, we have to rely on anecdotes from businesses, surveys of workers, shreds of private data, and a few state numbers.

They show an economy not in a downturn or a contraction or a soft patch, not experiencing losses or selling off or correcting. They show evaporation, disappearance on what feels like a religious scale. [more]

This Is Why People All Over America Are Scared To Death Of Being Tested For The Coronavirus…
    http://theeconomiccollapseblog.com/archives/this-is-why-people-all-over-america-are-scared-to-death-of-being-tested-for-the-coronavirus

How would you feel if you received a bill for more than $34,000 after being tested and treated for the coronavirus? This pandemic is showing the entire world that the U.S. healthcare system is deeply, deeply broken, and there is no way that we can continue to go on like this. If coronavirus testing is quick, inexpensive and widely available all over the rest of the globe, why can’t that be the case here too? Democrats and Republicans have been fighting about fixing our healthcare system all the way back to the 1990s and they haven’t gotten the job done. Now we have a system that is a complete and utter embarrassment, and it is about to be overwhelmed by the greatest public health crisis that any of us have ever seen. [more; they just said on the news a few days ago that all this would be covered by the government, but i don't know what happened since then.]

The Norris Geyser Basin, situated northwest of the Yellowstone Caldera, is inflating and deflating by several inches in erratic bursts since two decades.
But the reason behind this sudden and violent ‘breathing’ remains a mystery… Or is it magma intrusion as suggested by a new study? [more]

COVID-19 threatens food supply chain as farms worry about workers falling ill – “We’ve got enough disruption. We don’t need to disrupt our food supply, that would be really catastrophic.”
    https://desdemonadespair.net/2020/03/covid-19-threatens-food-supply-chain-as-farms-worry-about-workers-falling-ill-weve-got-enough-disruption-we-dont-need-to-disrupt-our-food-supply-that-would-be-re.html

About 250,000 workers came to the U.S. on H-2A visas last year, the majority of them from Mexico. They’ve become an increasingly important piece of America’s food industry.

Late in the day on Monday, the U.S. Embassy in Mexico City announced that it is suspending nonemergency visa appointments because of concerns for the health of its employees and visitors.

At the same time, though, the embassy notified farm employers that many — perhaps most — of these farm workers still can get their visas, because they participated in the program last year and don’t require an in-person appointment at the consulate.

Ryan Ogburn, visa director at wafla, which helps farms manage the flow of H-2A workers in the Pacific Northwest, says that 85-90% of their workers will qualify for this exemption. Meanwhile, influential farm organizations in the U.S. are pushing the Trump administration to ease the entry of more guest workers.

The continuing availability of agricultural workers illustrates the paradox of America’s food supply in the age of COVID-19.

One end of the food supply chain has been completely upended as restaurants go dark and consumers prowl half-empty aisles of supermarkets. Food producers, though, are operating almost as normal — at least for now. […]

There’s an even bigger worry hanging over the food industry: The prospect of workers testing positive for COVID-19. [more]

[always on the other side, SOTT trying to stay 'edgy' i guess]

Even if there are cases next door, the answer is no, you do NOT need to get or wear any face masks — surgical masks, "N95 masks," respirator masks, or anything else — to protect yourself against the coronavirus. Not only do you not need them, you shouldn't wear them, according to infection prevention specialist Eli Perencevich, MD, a professor of medicine and epidemiology at the University of Iowa's College of Medicine.

"The average healthy person does not need to have a mask, and they shouldn't be wearing masks," Dr. Perencevich said. "There's no evidence that wearing masks on healthy people will protect them. They wear them incorrectly, and they can increase the risk of infection because they're touching their face more often."

But even if you know what you're doing and you tie your hands behind your back, you still don't need to wear a mask.

    https://www.yahoo.com/finance/news/u-lockdown-biggest-threat-oil-150000031.html

The SARS CoV2 virus that is behind the COVID-19 pandemic has finally ravaged the United States, and cities and states are reacting to its brutality by shutting stuff down. As the United States continues to increase measures to isolate the sick and slow the spread, the oil industry is bracing for harder times ahead.

Just how bad could it get, and what would a full quarantine mean for US oil?

The effects of U.S. border closures, travel restrictions, school shutdowns, bar and restaurant dining-in shutdown are already hitting the US oil industry hard.

The primary U.S. oil benchmark--West Texas Intermediate, has fallen by about $30 per barrel over the last month, making it difficult--or impossible, rather--for U.S. oil producers to turn a profit.

The breakeven for most U.S. producers is above the current $22.61 as of 8:15 am EDT.

And while the profit crunch will no doubt cripple smaller producers and oilfield service providers that don’t have their hands in other ventures, the industry is facing even more challenges due to the virus. [more]

The Decline and Fall of the Gulf’s Oil Empire Is Looming
    https://www.yahoo.com/finance/news/decline-fall-gulf-oil-empire-000016443.html

For much of the world, oil wealth is a curse. Endowed with ample reserves of hydrocarbons, the likes of Nigeria, Angola, Kazakhstan, Mexico and Venezuela frittered the benefits away.

Only in the Persian Gulf has oil been a nation-building blessing. The discoveries of petroleum in the mid-20th century turned an anarchic, desperately poor region into one of the most affluent places on the planet. Qatar, Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates are all richer than Switzerland. Even Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, and Oman are on a par with Japan or the U.K.

The transformation has been so complete that it’s easy to believe the wealth derives from some eternal law of nature. That’s not true, though. The current price war in oil markets will only hasten the moment when the unsustainable nature of Gulf economies faces a brutal reckoning. [more]

COVID-19 is most similar to the SARS virus, but that doesn’t explain why it has become a much larger outbreak, the New England Journal of Medicine study concluded

COVID-19, the disease caused by the new coronavirus, is “stable for several hours to days” in aerosols and on surfaces, including plastic and stainless steel, according to a study published this week in the peer-reviewed New England Journal of Medicine.

The study was coauthored by scientists at the National Institutes of Health, the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention, UCLA and Princeton University. It was made available in print form on Monday, and aims to provide more clarity on the virus’s contagiousness.

The scientists found that SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, was detectable in the air for up to three hours, up to four hours on copper, up to 24 hours on cardboard, and up to 2 to 3 days on plastic and stainless steel. [more]
