Event Update For 2020-01-14

http://jumpingjackflashhypothesis.blogspot.com/2012/02/jumping-jack-flash-hypothesis-its-gas.html

The seas, lakes and oceans are now pluming deadly hydrogen sulfide and suffocating methane. Hydrogen sulfide is a highly toxic water-soluble heavier-than-air gas and will accumulate in low-lying areas. Methane is slightly more buoyant than normal air and so will be all around, but will tend to contaminate our atmosphere from the top down. These gases are sickening and killing oxygen-using life all around the world, including human life, as our atmosphere is increasingly poisoned. Because both gases are highly flammable and because our entire civilization is built around fire and flammable fuels, this is leading to more fires and explosions. This is an extinction level event and will likely decimate both the biosphere and human population and it is debatable whether humankind can survive this event.

A. More fires and more explosions, especially along the coasts, but everywhere generally.
B. Many more animal die-offs, of all kinds, and especially oceanic species.
C. More multiples of people will be found dead in their homes, as if they'd dropped dead.
D. More corpses found in low-lying areas, all over the world.
E. More unusual vehicular accidents.
F. Improved unemployment numbers as people die off.

The Australian firestorms: portents of a planetary future
    http://arctic-news.blogspot.com/2020/01/the-australian-firestorms-portents-of-a-planetary-future.html

    by Andrew Glikson
    Earth and climate scientist
    Australian National University

Global warming and its disastrous consequences are now truly with us since the second part of 2019. At the moment a change in the weather has given parts of the country a respite from the raging fires, some of which are still burning or smoldering, waiting for another warm spell to flare up. The danger zones include the Australian Capital Territory, from where these lines are written. To date, 18.6 million hectares (186,000 square kilometers) were burnt, including native forests, native animals, homesteads and towns, and 24 people died. The firestorms betray harbingers of a planetary future, or a lack of such, under ever rising temperatures and extreme weather events inherent in fossil fuel driven global warming.

More on Copernicus' greenhouse data fraud

I have been unable to monitor events in the Arctic recently but Margo has done a very important analysis and shows that the data is completely different from what was there at the end of 2019 before they shut off the data for both CO2 and CH4 (and, interestingly, none of their other data.

Is there something up that they are trying to cover up?

Russia has been developing mechanisms to mitigate the impact of US restrictions. Additionally, the Russia-led Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) is mulling establishing a free trade zone with India, which is set to further boost investor protection, according to Russia's top diplomat.

Flash floods strike Oman as temperatures sink below zero

Temperatures in some parts of Oman dropped to below zero on Wednesday as heavy rain caused flooding across the Sultanate and residents are braced themselves for a further downpour.

Residents living near the 3,000 metre peak said heavy rain and snow have blocked roads and left most of them stranded in their homes.

"We will run out of food if the bad weather continues. The lower areas of the town are flooded with rainwater and higher areas are full of snow. We will have to wait and see what happens in the next 24 hours," Firas Al-Ruqaishi, 42, a farmer at Jabal Shams, told The National over the phone.

State television reported scores of cars were swept away, and damages caused to property. No deaths were reported but hospitals in Muscat treated over 200 people for various injuries state television said. [more]

Then October cooled down quickly and dramatically with our first freeze occurring about six weeks earlier than average. November was a downright cold month with December even colder. Now, so far it looks like January is going to be warmer than November. It might even be a bit warmer than October, depending on how the next two weeks play out. We've had a few multiple day strings of balmy weather. Monday was so warm and humid that a few times I had a difficult time catching my breath when outside. Last week we had spring-like thunderstorms.

Aussie Bushfire Update No 24: "This will be all of our Christmas, birthday, engagement, anniversary, wedding and graduation presents rolled into one." Significant rain has arrived
    http://www.thebigwobble.org/2020/01/aussie-bushfire-update-no-24-this-will.html

Rain fell across parts of bushfire-ravaged eastern Australia on Thursday and more wet weather was forecast, giving some relief following months of catastrophic blazes fuelled by climate change. The fires, unprecedented for Australia in terms of duration and intensity, have claimed 28 lives and killed an estimated billion animals. Sustained hot weather and only very rare periods of light rain in the affected areas have deepened the crisis. So authorities had been looking forward to this week's rain hoping it would help contain or even extinguish some fires. [more]

'Moment of crisis' has come on climate change: Attenborough
    https://www.yahoo.com/news/moment-crisis-come-climate-change-attenborough-111646934.html

The world is facing the "moment of crisis" on climate change and cannot delay action any longer, British naturalist and broadcaster David Attenborough warned in an interview broadcast Thursday.

"We have been putting things off year after year, we have been raising targets and saying 'Oh well, if we do it within the next 20 years," he told the BBC.

"The moment of crisis has come, we can no longer prevaricate."

His comments come after the United Nations revealed the past decade has been the hottest on record, and warned higher temperatures were expected to fuel more extreme weather events.

Attenborough said immediate action was required. "We can't go on saying 'but there's hope' and leave it to next year. We have to change". [more; guess what, Dave? WE'RE DOING NOTHING]

Van Beurden’s strategic response shows that years of political and economic pressure–especially from governments and investors responding to a sustained public outcry–can push even the most powerful interests to change. Whether climate activists can harness this mounting pressure to compel Shell and other oil companies to transform the global energy economy may be the weightiest question of our time. [more]

This bizarre weather is going to make it very difficult to plant, grow and harvest ANYTHING very soon, especially if we're having a methane event in the Arctic now, during winter. Increasingly, storms are becoming more intense - as that straight-line wind blowing down the side wall of a school gym in NC today illustrates.

Tropical cyclones causing billions in losses dominated the natural catastrophe picture of 2019 – “Cyclones are becoming more frequently associated with extreme precipitation”

820 natural catastrophes caused overall losses of US$ 150bn, which is broadly in line with the inflation-adjusted average of the past 30 years. A smaller portion of losses was insured compared with 2018: about US$ 52bn. This was due, among other things, to the high share of flood losses, which are often not insured to the same extent as wind damage in most industrial countries.

The insured portion of overall losses, slightly above 35%, matches the average of the past ten years. This is evidence that large sections of the market remain uninsured, especially in emerging and developing countries. [more]

    https://desdemonadespair.net/2020/01/europes-demographic-time-bomb-while-global-population-is-ageing-continent-presents-extreme-example-of-this-trend.html

With its low birth rate and fast-ageing population, Europe is facing a demographic crisis, one that economists fear could hit growth and public finances.

While the global population overall is getting older, Europe is an extreme example of this trend, particularly in the continent’s south and east, which have been hit by record-low fertility rates and emigration. An analysis of the main demographic trends highlights the challenge faced by policymakers. [more]

On December 31st swollen clouds emptied over Indonesia’s capital, dumping 377 millimetres of rain in one day. That is the most since records began in 1886, according to the state weather agency. The river near Nurhayati’s home in an eastern suburb of Jakarta burst its banks, overturning vehicles parked alongside. Within hours the water had risen nearly eight metres, engulfing one-storey houses. Nurhayati’s neighbour, Pudji, says she had to wait for 22 hours before she could be rescued from her roof.

  7. “We will lose rural America” warns Land O’Lakes CEO at annual Fed summit – “The towns are rolling up on us. That is the truth.”

    Rural America needs help.

That was the key message from Beth Ford, president and CEO of Land O’Lakes, Inc., while speaking Thursday at the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis’ annual economic outlook conference for the Ninth District.

“Farmers want trade. They want a robust marketplace and they want to compete,” said Ford. “But the reality is we are in a disrupted environment through trade tariffs and other things.”

Ford, the conference’s keynote speaker, stressed that rural communities are reeling, and not only from the Trump administration’s two-year trade war with China, which has left soybean farmers without a buyer for more than 60% of their exports for years, but also from decades of neglect.

She pointed to a shortage of doctors, one in four rural children living in poverty and up to 24 million people without access to broadband as pressing rural issues.

“This is a security issue, for the nation, I believe,” Ford said. “Investing in agriculture, our own food supply, is probably a good idea.”

Land O’Lakes is a Minnesota-based member-owned cooperative and one of the nation’s largest agribusiness and food companies. Along with farm country’s fortunes, its earnings have slumped to $255 million in 2018 from $365 million in 2017. [more]
