The seas, lakes and oceans are now pluming deadly hydrogen sulfide and suffocating methane. Hydrogen sulfide is a highly toxic water-soluble heavier-than-air gas and will accumulate in low-lying areas. Methane is slightly more buoyant than normal air and so will be all around, but will tend to contaminate our atmosphere from the top down. These gases are sickening and killing oxygen-using life all around the world, including human life, as our atmosphere is increasingly poisoned. Because both gases are highly flammable and because our entire civilization is built around fire and flammable fuels, this is leading to more fires and explosions. This is an extinction level event and will likely decimate both the biosphere and human population and it is debatable whether humankind can survive this event.

If we had peaked and begun steadily reducing emissions 20 years ago, the necessary pace of reductions would have been around 3 percent a year, which is … well, “realistic” is too strong — it still would have required rapid, coordinated action of a kind never seen before in human history — but it was at least possible to envision.
We didn’t, though. We knew about climate change, there were scientists yelling themselves blue in the face, but we didn’tturn the wheel. Global emissions have only risen since then. Humanity has put more CO2 in the atmosphere since 1988, when climate scientist James Hansen first testified to Congress about the danger of climate change, than it did in all of history prior. One person was killed while several homesteads were gutted by fire when a "mysterious" bolt of lightning struck a village under Chief Njelele in Gokwe South last Tuesday evening.
At least 20 head of cattle belonging to three families were killed in the incident that witnesses said occurred at about 6 pm.
"It was just hot and some dark clouds gathered and the next thing, lightning struck and killed a woman. There were also about 20 beasts which were killed," said Chief Njelele.
He said the lightning bolt left many with questions.
"Insignificant showers fell soon after the lightning strike but everyone was left shell-shocked. I have visited the affected people and everyone was still in shock," he said.
One of the affected villagers, Mr Timothy Mlambo said he was inside his kitchen hut when it suddenly caught fire.
"There was a huge bang and the next thing I realised that my hut was on fire. When I dashed out, I discovered that three or four houses belonging to my neighbours were also on fire but it was not even raining," he said. [more]

Officials were searching Wednesday for a missing skier at an Idaho resort where a series of avalanches killed two skiers and injured five others the day before.
The Silver Mountain Resort was closed Wednesday "to focus all available resources on the search,'' the resort said on Facebook.
The resort said it received a telephone call Wednesday morning from a concerned family member of the missing skier.
“This person has been confirmed to be skiing yesterday at Silver during the time of the avalanche,'' the resort posted on Facebook. "An intense search is currently underway with Silver Mountain Ski Patrol as well as multiple teams and dog units from various agencies." [more]
