Event Update For 2019-04-16

The seas, lakes and oceans are now pluming deadly hydrogen sulfide and suffocating methane. Hydrogen sulfide is a highly toxic water-soluble heavier-than-air gas and will accumulate in low-lying areas. Methane is slightly more buoyant than normal air and so will be all around, but will tend to contaminate our atmosphere from the top down. These gases are sickening and killing oxygen-using life all around the world, including human life, as our atmosphere is increasingly poisoned. Because both gases are highly flammable and because our entire civilization is built around fire and flammable fuels, this is leading to more fires and explosions. This is an extinction level event and will likely decimate both the biosphere and human population and it is debatable whether humankind can survive this event.

A. More fires and more explosions, especially along the coasts, but everywhere generally.
B. Many more animal die-offs, of all kinds, and especially oceanic species.
C. More multiples of people will be found dead in their homes, as if they'd dropped dead.
D. More corpses found in low-lying areas, all over the world.
E. More unusual vehicular accidents.
F. Improved unemployment numbers as people die off.

2019-04-16 - Unknown rotten egg odor hits Stockport, Tameside, Salford, Denton, Redding, Droylsden, Bury, Oldham, Gorton, Sale, and Salford Quays (Britain):

Quote: "An odd smell is sweeping across much of Greater Manchester...but nobody knows what it is. Gas board bosses have received more than 300 calls from people in Stockport, Tameside and Salford, complaining of an unpleasant pong. Nobody knows what is causing it. Hundreds of people said they could smell something like 'gas' in places including Denton, Redding, Gorton, Sale and Salford Quays on Tuesday. Engineers attended and carried out safety checks. No problems were found with gas mains."

Note: This area isn't far from the western coast of Britain, the side most likely to have rotten-egg-smelling hydrogen sulfide blow in off the ocean. Obviously, once the concentration reaches 1 part per thousand, the populations of entire cities are going to start dropping dead. It's still possible that Britain will be scoured clean of life by fires before everyone drops dead from poison gas though. Time will tell!

2019-04-16 - Dead zones spreading through the oceans as oxygen levels decline:

Quote: "But the problem stretched far beyond 'dead zones', the authors pointed out, as even smaller oxygen declines could stunt growth in animals, hinder reproduction and lead to disease or even death. It also could trigger the release of dangerous chemicals such as nitrous oxide, a greenhouse gas up to 300 times more powerful than carbon dioxide, and toxic hydrogen sulphide."

2019-04-16 - Sea level rise destroying roads and pushing people further inland in Papua New Guinea:

Quote: "The Makasili-Vavua road, which provides a vital road link for people living in the Hoskins local level government area of Talesia district in West New Britain, is being threatened by rise in sea level and strong waves. A section of the road, particularly at Makasali village, had gone under the sea along with three others constructed further inland. However, a fifth road was also built further in from the others and is currently providing service to the people. The National visited the area last week and apart from its deteriorating condition and rise in sea level, the road is eventually wearing away. One of the local villagers, Lucas Dito, told The National that the current road was the fifth one that was built far inland after the initial one and three others were all claimed by the sea or had gone under the water."

  1. Hey Jonny, and good morning to everyone reading JJFH today.

All that toxic (and probably flammable) gas blowing into Britain seems to be causing all kinds of fires, like the underground electrical, tree stump, and vehicle fires, and likely caused the garbage in a truck to erupt in flame.

    How long do we have?

The March 2019 temperature is in line with an earlier analysis that 2019 could be 1.85°C warmer than preindustrial and that a rapid temperature rise could take place soon, as illustrated by the image below. [see graph!]

A catastrophe of unimaginable proportions is unfolding. Life is disappearing from Earth and all life could be gone within a decade. At 5°C of warming, most life on Earth will have disappeared. When looking at near-term human extinction, 3°C will likely suffice. Study after study is showing the size of the threat, yet many people seem out to hide what we're facing. [more]

First successful model simulation of the past 3 million years of climate change – “Our results imply a strong sensitivity of the Earth system to relatively small variations in atmospheric CO2”

[too bad nobody figured this out this before civilization began going industrial]

In a paper published today in Science Advances (Williet, et al., 2019), we were able to reproduce the natural climate variability of the whole Quaternary with an Earth system model of intermediate complexity. Besides ocean and atmosphere, the model includes interactive ice sheets for the Northern Hemisphere and a fully coupled global carbon cycle and was driven only by changes in orbital configuration and different scenarios for slowly varying boundary conditions, namely CO2 outgassing from volcanoes as a geologic source of CO2, and changes in sediment distribution over the continents. Interior Deptartment [sic] opens ethics investigation of its new chief, David Bernhardt, after seven complaints from “a wide assortment of complainants alleging various conflicts of interest and other violations”

The Interior Department’s internal watchdog has opened an investigation into ethics complaints against the agency’s newly installed secretary, David Bernhardt.

Mr. Bernhardt, a former lobbyist for the oil and agribusiness industries, was confirmed by the Senate last week to head the agency, which oversees the nation’s 500 million acres of public land and vast coastal waters. He has played a central role in writing policies designed to advance President Trump’s policy of “energy dominance” and expanding fossil fuel exploration. He has been dogged by allegations of ethics violations since joining the Trump administration as the Interior Department’s deputy secretary in 2017. [more]

Killing migratory birds has been a crime for decades, but not anymore under Trump – “It will unravel a lot of progress over the past several decades”

Under Republican and Democratic presidents from Nixon through Obama, killing migratory birds, even inadvertently, was a crime, with fines for violations ranging from $250 to $100 million. The power to prosecute created a deterrent that protected birds and enabled government to hold companies to account for environmental disasters.

But in part due to President Donald Trump’s Interior secretary nominee, David Bernhardt, whose confirmation awaits a Senate vote, the wildlife cop is no longer on the beat. Bernhardt pushed a December 2017 legal opinion that declared the 1918 Migratory Bird Treaty Act applies only when companies kill birds on purpose. [more]

‘When the Glaciers Disappear, Those Species Will Go Extinct’

As surely as they are melting elsewhere around the world, glaciers are disappearing in North America, too.

This great melting will affect ecosystems and the creatures within them, like the salmon that spawn in meltwater streams. This is on top of the effects on the water that billions of people drink, the crops they grow and the energy they need.

Glacier-fed ecosystems are delicately balanced, populated by species that have adapted to the unique conditions of the streams.

At the time, Gilliam, who rose to stardom as part of the troupe (first as an animator and then as an actor), deemed himself “angry” over what he perceived to be forced diversity, saying, “I no longer want to be a white male, I don’t want to be blamed for everything wrong in the world: I tell the world now I’m a black lesbian. ... France is not capable of rebuilding Notre Dame as it was

France no longer has trees tall enough to rebuild Notre-Dame's roof as it was

The cathedral is 427 by 157 feet, with a 115-foot roof. While the facade that visitors could see from the nave — the central part of the church — was stone, the beams above it were wood. The fire on Monday started in the attic and destroyed most of the roof.
According to Notre-Dame's website, 1,300 trees were cut down for its roof between 1160 and 1170, and many could have been 300 to 400 years old at the time. [more]
