Event Update For 2018-06-19

The seas, lakes and oceans are now pluming deadly hydrogen sulfide and suffocating methane. Hydrogen sulfide is a highly toxic water-soluble heavier-than-air gas and will accumulate in low-lying areas. Methane is slightly more buoyant than normal air and so will be all around, but will tend to contaminate our atmosphere from the top down. These gases are sickening and killing oxygen-using life all around the world, including human life, as our atmosphere is increasingly poisoned. Because both gases are highly flammable and because our entire civilization is built around fire and flammable fuels, this is leading to more fires and explosions. This is an extinction level event and will likely decimate both the biosphere and human population and it is debatable whether humankind can survive this event.

A. More fires and more explosions, especially along the coasts, but everywhere generally.
B. Many more animal die-offs, of all kinds, and especially oceanic species.
C. More multiples of people will be found dead in their homes, as if they'd dropped dead.
D. More corpses found in low-lying areas, all over the world.
E. More unusual vehicular accidents.
F. Improved unemployment numbers as people die off.

Will Nicaragua be the next Venezuela?

Protests in Nicaragua have left as many dead in just two months as the Venezuelan crisis did over the course of several years. And with the country stuck in a political stalemate, experts say anything can happen.

Two months after an uprising took hold of Nicaragua, there appears to be no end in sight. It began on April 18, with citizens protesting President Daniel Ortega's controversial pension system reform. Ortega withdrew the proposal four days later, hoping the protests would end. Instead, demonstrators continued to rally, but this time against the repressive methods of the state and the deaths it produced, throwing the country into unexpected political chaos. [more]

The Unexamined Life. Is A Bad Choice.

The unexamined life attends the consumption-oriented lifestyle. Meaning that external gratification dopamine addiction leaves little room for introspection. The consumption-addled mind can’t sit still for long enough to orient itself around anything that can’t be consumed or acquired - be that real or virtual. The competitive way of life rewards socialization over deep education. Superficial familiarity above profound insight. This all attends a broad-based sociopathy directed towards understanding people in order to ingratiate oneself into higher levels of society, at the expense of understanding the natural world and its processes. Disposability favoured over craftsmanship. Knowledge is deemed “useless” if it can’t be put to direct use accumulating additional wealth materiel and corresponding status. [more]

Deputy Administrator Konkus was responsible for reviewing grants between August 2017 and May 2018. He reportedly told EPA staff that, as part of his review, he would be looking for “the double C-word” (i.e., climate change). He ordered the cancellation of at least four grants for research on climate change and related topics. [more]

Conflict and climate change challenge sustainable development effort: UN report – For the first time in more than a decade, the number who are not getting enough to eat is trending upward

Although more people are leading better lives than a decade ago, persistent poverty and hunger, as well as rapid urbanization, are challenging global efforts to create a more just and equitable world, according to a United Nations report launched on Wednesday.

The study provides a snapshot of progress towards achieving the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), adopted by world leaders nearly three years ago.

“With just 12 years left to the 2030 deadline, we must inject a sense of urgency,” UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said in a forward to the report.

The Sustainable Development Goals Report 2018 reveals that conflict and climate change were major contributing factors to increased hunger and forced displacement, among other challenges.

Farm Bill Passes House as Critics Denounce Food-Stamp Work Rules

    [more below]

  4. Farm legislation that would impose new work restrictions to qualify for food stamps narrowly passed the U.S. House after an earlier attempt failed last month because of conservatives’ demands that an immigration vote be held first.

The five year, $867 billion bill, passed 213-211 on Thursday, would extend subsidies for farmers and government-backed crop insurers, and impose new requirements on the government’s biggest food-assistance program.

The Senate is considering a different version of farm legislation that wouldn’t impose broad new work requirements for those who receive subsidies under the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. If that version ultimately wins Senate approval, lawmakers would need to reconcile the two bills. Current farm programs begin to expire Sept. 30.

“If history is any indication, we will not be done by Sept. 30 with the farm bill,” said Senator Jerry Moran, a Republican from Kansas and a member of that chamber’s Agriculture Committee, at a Bloomberg Government event earlier in the day. [more]
