Event Update For 2018-02-23

The seas, lakes and oceans are now pluming deadly hydrogen sulfide and suffocating methane. Hydrogen sulfide is a highly toxic water-soluble heavier-than-air gas and will accumulate in low-lying areas. Methane is slightly more buoyant than normal air and so will be all around, but will tend to contaminate our atmosphere from the top down. These gases are sickening and killing oxygen-using life all around the world, including human life, as our atmosphere is increasingly poisoned. Because both gases are highly flammable and because our entire civilization is built around fire and flammable fuels, this is leading to more fires and explosions. This is an extinction level event and will likely decimate both the biosphere and human population and it is debatable whether humankind can survive this event.

A. More fires and more explosions, especially along the coasts, but everywhere generally.
B. Many more animal die-offs, of all kinds, and especially oceanic species.
C. More multiples of people will be found dead in their homes, as if they'd dropped dead.
D. More corpses found in low-lying areas, all over the world.
E. More unusual vehicular accidents.
F. Improved unemployment numbers as people die off.

  5. Hey Tom,
Still here, still reading, still kickin'. But for how much longer ? Ha ! Might sound strange but I'm nice to what few little critters I come across these days even pesky things like flies and mosquitoes or at least I don't maniacally pursue them to kill them. There's a slug of sorts that comes out from behind the tiles above the kitchen bench-top late at night to graze and when I catch him in the morning I gently pick him up and put it next to his little exit hole and off it slithers. Even something like that is a miracle of nature. It's anatomy, the way it moves, the patterns on it's skin, as a work of engineering, you know, it's a wonder. No, haven't been smoking but could do with one !
Epic flooding over there. Whoah ! Bad news. All the best to anyone effected.

    Cheers Everyone,
    Tom N. (in Oz )

Dangerous and shallow M7.5 earthquake hits Papua New Guinea just after M5.6 earthquake in Japan – Long series of aftershocks

Papua New Guinea has been rocked by a shallow and dangerous 7.5 magnitude earthquake just moments after a smaller seismic event struck Japan, increasing fears of a natural disaster impacting the dangerous region dubbed the ‘Ring of Fire’. The 7.5 magnitude earthquake struck at a depth of 10km at roughly 4am local time (6pm GMT) the heart of the island near the Southern Highlands area, with tremors felt across the country. At least 7 aftershocks over M4.9 earthquakes were reported after the main powerful quake. [more]

Swarm of 16 earthquakes rattles San Francisco Bay Area after series of 60 earthquakes hit the Danville area last week

Several magnitude 2 and 3 earthquakes rumbled through the San Francisco Bay Area on Friday. It’s the latest seismic activity to add to a swarm of 60 earthquakes greater than magnitude 1 to hit the Danville area in the past week. The largest in the sequence, a magnitude 3.6 earthquake, came at 12:19 p.m. Friday. The U.S. Geological Survey received reports from more than 1,000 people who said they felt the quake, extending from the East Bay and into San Francisco. The quake was quite shallow, less than a third of a mile under the surface of the earth. A magnitude 2.8 aftershock was felt two minutes later. [more]

America's other prescription drug epidemic? Benzodiazepines

"Benzos" is shorthand for benzodiazepines, a class of drugs often used to treat anxiety and insomnia. The dozen or so different types include Ativan, Klonopin, Valium, and Xanax. Most people have heard of them. More people than you might think are taking them (three benzodiazepines are in the top 10 most commonly prescribed psychotropic medications in the United States). Yet few people realize how many people get addicted to and die from them. [more]

A Hole in Winter’s Heart: Temperatures Rise to Above Freezing at the North Pole in February

Weather and climate are inexorably married one to the other. Though weather is often variable and tied to locality, climate is broader-ranging and roughly characterized as average weather over 30 years. When climate changes, it ultimately changes average weather. It thus changes the rules in which weather occurs. So you can end up with weather events that are typically not common or have never been seen before — like category six hurricanes, much more heavy rainfall events, historic and unprecedented droughts, and above freezing temperatures at the North Pole during February even as Arctic air is driven south over Europe. A striking new study published yesterday in the journal Nature Communications suggests that sea-level rise—one of the biggest consequences of global warming—will still be happening 300 years from now, even if humans stop emitting greenhouse gases before the end of the current century. [more]
