Event Update For 2014-04-09

The seas, lakes and oceans are now pluming deadly hydrogen sulfide and suffocating methane. Hydrogen sulfide is a highly toxic water-soluble heavier-than-air gas and will accumulate in low-lying areas. Methane is slightly more buoyant than normal air and so will be all around, but will tend to contaminate our atmosphere from the top down. These gases are sickening and killing oxygen-using life all around the world, including human life, as our atmosphere is increasingly poisoned. Because both gases are highly flammable and because our entire civilization is built around fire and flammable fuels, this is leading to more fires and explosions. This is an extinction level event and will likely decimate both the biosphere and human population and it is debatable whether humankind can survive this event.

A. More fires and more explosions, especially along the coasts, but everywhere generally.
B. Many more animal die-offs, of all kinds, and especially oceanic species.
C. More multiples of people will be found dead in their homes, as if they'd dropped dead.
D. More corpses found in low-lying areas, all over the world.
E. More unusual vehicular accidents.
F. Improved unemployment numbers as people die off.

2014-04-09 - Hillside destabilizes in Jackson (Wyoming), neighborhood told to prepare to evacuate, some homes already evacuated:

Note: Not all that far from Yellowstone. Did you know that Yellowstone's Old Faithful live webcam has been down for two days now and is entering a third straight day of being down? As far as I know, that has never happened before. And did you know the US government is seeking large numbers of buses for evacuation of the general population in the continental United States?

Quote: "This is a solicitation for a single indefinite-delivery, indefinite-quantity (IDIQ) contract to obtain evacuation planning and operational support to facilitate a motor coach evacuation of the general population in response to Presidential-Declared Emergencies and Major Disasters within the continental United States."

Note: Worth paying attention to this stuff, especially if you live within, say, 500 miles of Yellowstone. Don't expect to get any warning. If Yellowstone erupts big and you live within a few hundred miles then you'll hear it and then you'll have a short window of time to GTFO, or wait for a GTFO Bus, or you could be buried under ash. It wouldn't be worth staying around. Everything would die, all the buildings would collapse, no sewer, no running water, no roads, no natural gas for heat, no electrical grid, not even solar power - or not much anyway - because the sky would be darkened. Maybe it won't erupt, or maybe if it does it won't be a big eruption, but the signs are looking increasingly ominous, especially when viewed in the context of all the OTHER volcanoes erupting around the world. Stay alert, hope for the best...but prepare for the worst.

2014-04-09 - Car bursts into flame while parked in coastal Boston (Massachusetts), fire spreads to homes, gets huge:

Quote: "The Boston Globe reported that the fire may have started in a car. Fire Department Spokesman Steve MacDonald told the Globe a car was 'fully engulfed in a nearby alley when firefighters arrived.' The report also said a 13-year-old witness said 'the flames just started in the engine. It just, like burst in flames.'"

Note: And that's why it's increasingly foolish to park vehicles near buildings or other vehicles. All vehicles are now randomly-igniting firebombs that can go off at any time, like this car did. Then if the vehicle is near some buildings or other vehicles, they can go up in flames too, and very quickly, just as happened here. The longer this problem is ignored, the more homes and businesses that will burn down, and the more lives that will be lost. I normally don't headline a car fire, but this car fire turned into a massive EIGHT-ALARM building fire that wiped out a chunk of that street...

2014-04-09 - RV explodes and burns, two other vehicles and shed go up in flames too in Santa Paula (California), 1 injured:

Quote: "An explosion and fire in a trailer sent one man to the hospital Wednesday afternoon. The fire occurred in the 4000 Block Santa Paula Ojai Road not far from Mupu School. Following the explosion fire engulfed several cars and a large pine tree."

Note: About 500 feet northeast (downwind) of Santa Paula Creek...

2014-04-09 - RV trailer explodes and burns at RV park near Smith River (California), near the coast, 1 injured:

Quote: "Two camp trailers and a van also caught fire and were destroyed."

2014-04-09 - Man and garden tractor ignite while burning brush, in Battle Creek (Michigan), 1 killed, another similar fire too:

Quote: "In western Michigan, the Muskegon Chronicle reports Roger D. Kludy, 70, of Hart has died of injuries following a brush fire. He was badly burned in the Monday fire in Oceana County and Sheriff’s Lt. Craig Mast says he died at a hospital. Authorities say they believe Kludy was burning brush when something went awry and Kludy was burned."

Note: There've been a growing number of people burning to death in similar circumstances. Hydrogen sulfide is absorbing into absorbent materials, like dried brush, dead trees, wood, paper, mulch, dried leaves, clothes, etc. Then when you BURN that stuff, some of the hydrogen sulfide will be in the smoke, and that may knock you unconscious. Then you're unconscious AND there's a fire burning right near you - not hard to see how that scenario plays out...

2014-04-09 - Pub damaged by fire and explosion in Walton (Britain), 2 injured:

2014-04-09 - Chemical business devastated by explosions and massive blaze in Tulsa (Oklahoma), 1 injured:

Quote: "Multiple crews are on the scene of a massive fire at an east Tulsa business. About 75 firefighters are working a fire at Sabre Chem Inc. a company that produces oil field chemicals. The call came in just before 8:30 Wednesday night, on the 9900 block of East 47th Street. Several explosions were reported in the area."

2014-04-09 - Auto parts factory goes up in flames in Yennora area of coastal Sydney (Australia):

Quote: "Fire and Rescue NSW responded to a flood of triple zero calls reporting the fire at Larra St, Yennora about 3.50pm. 'The factory is fully involved in fire and it looks like it’s a car spare parts business that’s alight,' a Fire and Rescue NSW spokeswoman said."

Quote: "The fire is burning close to Yennora Train Station with people on Twitter reporting seeing the flames from the train. 'Omfg this factory at yennora is on fire and I can see it from the train,' one person said."

2014-04-09 - Forty shack homes destroyed by inferno in Deep Sea area of Nairobi (Kenya), 200 people homeless:

2014-04-09 - Fire engine bursts into flame while parked in fire station in Williams Lake (Canada):

Quote: "We’re just lucky it happened in the afternoon and not at 3 a.m..."

Note: The man has no idea just HOW lucky that actually was. Most of the parked vehicles that have been spontaneously igniting have been doing so in the wee hours. The wee hours are when the atmosphere cools and contracts, which will push any hydrogen sulfide or methane in the air above closer to the ground...

2014-04-09 - Tractor trailer bursts into flame on the A30 between Drews Cottage and Merrymeet (Britain), near Okehampton:

Quote: "San Jose firefighters responded to the fire, primarily contained to the garage."

Note: Pic shows the destroyed SUV inside that garage, so this was probably another vehicle spontaneously igniting in the middle of the night and burning nearby structures, much like that car that burst into flame in coastal Boston while it was parked between two residential buildings on this day. Vehicles need not be running to spontaneously ignite now. Hydrogen sulfide is reactive with electrified copper, so that means any vehicle with a battery is a fire threat, and it's also reactive with rusty iron/steel, so any vehicle with rust is a fire threat too...

2014-04-09 - House damaged by fire in coastal Newport News (Virginia), nobody home:,0,1624908.story

But as you can see for yourself, in MANY cases animal attacks do involve pit bulls. If I had to guess at the percentage, pit bulls seem to be the culprit in at least 80% of dog attacks, and I know there are not 4 times as many pit bulls as there are all other types of dogs combined...

2014-04-09 - Poultry, cows and pigs dying in North Korea:

Note: Poultry dying blamed on bird flu. Cows and pigs dying blamed on foot-and-mouth disease. People dying blamed on starving people eating them. Okay, I added the last part...but if the other stuff keeps going on, it'll happen!

2014-04-09 - Firefighters train for plane fires in Kansas City (Missouri):

  1. I reposted your first item on the Collapse of Industrial Civilization blog (xraymike79's site).

Found this today to help you "know which way the wind blows":

Thanks for the new word: "artic" as in articulated (ie. semi-rig & trailer) in British-speak.

CA wildfires way up isn't good for a drought-stricken state. I mean, what are they going to use to put out the huge fires that consume entire hillsides and thousands of acres, drinking water? How's that going to work out?

You'll see this and can add it to the list in a few days:

10 killed as bus, truck carrying students collide [read this one, real scary]

What's going on with all the large-scale stabbing events all of a sudden?

How about that "mysterious ailment" when some large corporation wants what's underground or the land itself there?

"Oh, a little cloud of mysterious gas must have somehow gone over this particular area - how sad, and strange. We just heard about it and are concerned. If there's any way we can help remove the bodies . . . I mean, we have front-end loaders and large trailers if you need them. . ." said a spokesman for Megalon corporation which owns mining rights there. [I made up this scenario to illustrate the point.]

and, of course PA in the news with errant drivers and deadly accidents with unknown causes, barn fires (some involving innocent livestock dying hideously), and other destruction - the big fire in Philly not the least of it.

Thanks for another great up-date on our downfall, Jonny.

  2. Jonny, any links to posts about practical tips for minimizing risk until.... down the road? My GF and I have started increasing plants inside our apartment. We're in an apartment complex, which makes things tougher.

    1. I posted the things I am trying in the FAQ. Get some ozone generators and run them a lot would probably be the best suggestion, as it should help react away gases that infiltrate your apartment, reducing the fire/explosion/poison risk. They use ozone to combat methane and hydrogen sulfide problems at landfills, so why not adapt that tactic to the home? Not much you can do about other apartments in the building though.

More plants is good too, yes, since they breathe just as people do, so if THEY breathe in some hydrogen sulfide, that means YOU didn't breathe in that hydrogen sulfide. Better for you, not so great for them, but they're easier to replace. And they breathe out more oxygen than they breathe in too. So the more plants around, the more natural atmospheric filtration you have going on.

    2. And there really aren't any other links. Nobody was looking at this problem happening in our lifetime. We're not supposed to have to deal with problems like this. At the individual level, we're kinda at the mercy of the Earth, and she can be pretty lacking in the mercy department! At the civilization level we could do more, but we can't act at the civilization level if virtually everyone is sleeping through the problem.

    1. Good find, thanks! That's probably methane bubbling up from that river from the coal seams. Here's a wiki link for coal seam gas:

Quote: "The term refers to methane adsorbed into the solid matrix of the coal. It is called 'sweet gas' because of its lack of hydrogen sulphide."

If you're gonna have methane bubbling up, this is apparently the good stuff, not 'sour'. Still not good for the atmosphere, to have this stuff just bubbling away into the air. And I dunno if I'd be starting too many bonfires around there.
