Right on the coast, wee hours, vehicles igniting - need to see some real evidence that a person was involved here, else that's not an assumption I'm gonna make...

Guard duty was actually my favorite task when in the Army and since everyone else hated it, I did a lot of it. If you catch fires when they're small then they're not so terrible. If nobody's around or nobody's awake then you might end up with a much bigger problem, like burning to death...

Note: Sounds like this may have been the work of the Ghostly Match. Oh, I believe there was a gas line rupture, but what ignited the gas? Look back over the last year at all the humongous gas pipeline explosions. So, there's a gas line, and it leaks. It doesn't matter WHY it leaks - accidental rupture, decaying infrastructure, whatever. So the gas starts flooding the atmosphere. In 'normal times' the gas would often just blow away with the wind, no ignition source, and what you'd have is the gas company annoyed at wasting some gas. But once the air is volatile enough - from ANY type of flammable fumes - then if there's even a little hydrogen sulfide around, and it meets some electrified copper or rusty iron/steel then a spark may appear out of nowhere and there'll be a fire, explosion or both. So what you'd expect to see is MORE gas pipeline leaks resulting in gigantic explosions and fires, and that's what is happening. Also, more people and vehicles igniting at gas stations, and that's happening too. And more meth lab explosions and more hash oil extraction explosions, and those are happening as well. ANY flammable vapors in the air, of any type, for whatever reason, will now be more apt to spontaneously ignite even if there is no apparent ignition source in the area. Note: They call this suspicious because a vehicle AND a home right nearby burst into flame at almost the same time. Doesn't seem that suspicious to me. A gas plume may very well ignite a vehicle and a home at the same time. Obviously events like these do tend to baffle officials because they're completely clueless about what's going on, which means you absolutely can't count on them being particularly competent at doing their jobs...

Many vehicles also use flammable fuels which can generate flammable vapors and then if there's hydrogen sulfide present ALSO then the Ghostly Match can cause ignition. Vehicles also generate heat in the engine compartment and the exhaust, and heat alone can ignite flammable gas plumes. Finally, most vehicles (boats being the exception) use heat-generating friction for braking AND they use semi-absorbent flammable rubber tires (except trains which still use friction for braking), and as hydrogen sulfide and/or methane absorbs into the tires and brake pads, the use of brakes is igniting vehicles. So, vehicles are now randomly-igniting firebombs that can go off at any time, which means it is increasingly dangerous to park vehicles near anything you don't want to see burning up, like other vehicles and buildings...

That means less food for cattle, which will eventually mean less beef and milk. Crops aren't doing too well either, for numerous reasons, and that will eventually mean fewer vegetables. If volcanic winter really kicks in hard then we'll probably have to learn to live without food, quite possibly for a thousand years or more. On the plus side, we might well all be dead from poison gas, poisoned water, fires or explosions within 5 or 10 years (the latter looks optimistic at this point), so starvation might not be that big of a worry...
