Event Update For 2018-03-20

The seas, lakes and oceans are now pluming deadly hydrogen sulfide and suffocating methane. Hydrogen sulfide is a highly toxic water-soluble heavier-than-air gas and will accumulate in low-lying areas. Methane is slightly more buoyant than normal air and so will be all around, but will tend to contaminate our atmosphere from the top down. These gases are sickening and killing oxygen-using life all around the world, including human life, as our atmosphere is increasingly poisoned. Because both gases are highly flammable and because our entire civilization is built around fire and flammable fuels, this is leading to more fires and explosions. This is an extinction level event and will likely decimate both the biosphere and human population and it is debatable whether humankind can survive this event.

A. More fires and more explosions, especially along the coasts, but everywhere generally.
B. Many more animal die-offs, of all kinds, and especially oceanic species.
C. More multiples of people will be found dead in their homes, as if they'd dropped dead.
D. More corpses found in low-lying areas, all over the world.
E. More unusual vehicular accidents.
F. Improved unemployment numbers as people die off.

  1. It's all just gonna burn up - whether we're here to witness it all or not. I can imagine entire cities with abandoned refineries, gas lines, sewer systems, utility poles and electrical lockers randomly going up in flames, houses and other buildings exploding on occasion, cars and other vehicles erupting into flame day and night, as the gases permeate the atmosphere long after humans have disappeared.

Of course it's already happening, so this vision isn't a great leap.

The snow stopped here. I only had to do the driveway twice (once with a shovel, where I just pushed the 3 - 5" of snow off and later in the afternoon, once my neighbor walked his snow-blower across so I could do my driveway with it - mine's got a transmission problem all of a sudden, and needs service).

Punk Legends 7 Seconds Break Up After 38 Years

7 Seconds formed in Reno, Nevada in 1980, and they’ve been together ever since, switching up lineups but never doing the breakup/reunion thing. The band’s early records were enormously important to the development of melodic hardcore and straight edge, with the band howling grand and life-affirming and unpretentious hooks without compromising their speed or ferocity. As their influence has kept reverberating throughout the decades, they’ve kept touring hard and recording very good songs. But now they’re finally calling it a day.

Pacific plastic dump far larger than feared: study

he vast dump of plastic waste swirling in the Pacific ocean is now bigger than France, Germany and Spain combined -- far larger than previously feared -- and is growing rapidly, a study published Thursday warned.

"We found about 80,000 tonnes of buoyant plastic currently in the GPGP," Laurent Lebreton, lead author of the study published in the journal Scientific Reports, told AFP.

They found that the dump now contains around 1.8 trillion pieces of plastic, posing a dual threat to marine life.

Microplastics, tiny fragments of plastic smaller than 50mm in size that make up the vast majority of items in the GPGP, can enter the food chain when swallowed by fish.
The pollutants they contain become more concentrated as they work their way up through the food web, all the way to top level predators such as sharks, seals and polar bears. [more; and US!]
