Note: This city is about 8 miles from the East Coast. This is the type that concerns me the most: near oceanic coasts where there are large methane hydrate deposits. As those coastal deposits dissociate (melt), land subsidence appears inevitable, and there is a real possibility that the ground beneath large populated areas will sink and collapse. Entire urban areas could ultimately just slough off into the oceans. Where are all those mysterious empty 'ghost cities' in China? Well away from the coasts! Where are the major underground facilities in the United States? Colorado and Utah, well away from the coasts. Is that mere coincidence, or is that the result of planning by people who understand what's happening? That's a rhetorical question...
