The seas, lakes and oceans are now pluming deadly hydrogen sulfide and suffocating methane. Hydrogen sulfide is a highly toxic water-soluble heavier-than-air gas and will accumulate in low-lying areas. Methane is slightly more buoyant than normal air and so will be all around, but will tend to contaminate our atmosphere from the top down. These gases are sickening and killing oxygen-using life all around the world, including human life, as our atmosphere is increasingly poisoned. Because both gases are highly flammable and because our entire civilization is built around fire and flammable fuels, this is leading to more fires and explosions. This is an extinction level event and will likely decimate both the biosphere and human population and it is debatable whether humankind can survive this event.

Note: As mentioned, hydrogen sulfide and/or methane are being absorbed into tire rubber, which is a semi-absorbent material. It's probably mostly hydrogen sulfide because it's a heavier-than-air gas and tires rest on the ground. Then when brakes are applied the brake-friction generates more heat than it would normally (because hydrogen sulfide burns very hot) and the bad things happen: brakes get fried or ignite, tires ignite or explode, power steering lines or hydraulic lines or brake lines rupture from the heat, the vehicle goes up in flames, or all of the above. This tends to happen more to heavy vehicles like buses and tractor trailers and tanker trucks because more mass requires more brake-friction to slow. Massive vehicles often have more tires too, e.g. more rubber that can be contaminated. An incident very much like this happened recently in California, where a tour bus's brakes went out near coastal Los Angeles (California) and the bus ended up crashing and killing 8 people and injuring dozens more, as mentioned in the 2013-02-03 update. There are a growing number of incidents just like this...

This area is on Florida's Gulf Coast, downwind of the dead zones in the Gulf of Mexico, which are surely pluming hydrogen sulfide now...
