Event Update For 2020-10-21

http://jumpingjackflashhypothesis.blogspot.com/2012/02/jumping-jack-flash-hypothesis-its-gas.html

The seas, lakes and oceans are now pluming deadly hydrogen sulfide and suffocating methane. Hydrogen sulfide is a highly toxic water-soluble heavier-than-air gas and will accumulate in low-lying areas. Methane is slightly more buoyant than normal air and so will be all around, but will tend to contaminate our atmosphere from the top down. These gases are sickening and killing oxygen-using life all around the world, including human life, as our atmosphere is increasingly poisoned. Because both gases are highly flammable and because our entire civilization is built around fire and flammable fuels, this is leading to more fires and explosions. This is an extinction level event and will likely decimate both the biosphere and human population and it is debatable whether humankind can survive this event.

A. More fires and more explosions, especially along the coasts, but everywhere generally.
B. Many more animal die-offs, of all kinds, and especially oceanic species.
C. More multiples of people will be found dead in their homes, as if they'd dropped dead.
D. More corpses found in low-lying areas, all over the world.
E. More unusual vehicular accidents.
F. Improved unemployment numbers as people die off.

The symmetry of people dying in India is fascinating.

Big oil’s answer to melting Arctic: cooling the ground so it can keep drilling
    http://www.fasterthanexpected.com/2020/10/19/big-oils-answer-to-melting-arctic-cooling-the-ground-so-it-can-keep-drilling/

A recent environmental review of the project describes the company’s solution: cooling devices that will chill the ground beneath its structures, insulating them from the effects of the climate crisis.

The oil development that is fueling climate change continues to expand in the far north, with companies moving into new areas even as they are paying for special measures to protect equipment from the dangers of thawing permafrost and increasing rainfall – both expected outcomes as Arctic temperatures rise three times as fast as those elsewhere.[more]

California Braces for Most Dangerous Fire Weather of 2020
    https://www.yahoo.com/finance/news/california-braces-most-dangerous-fire-222518020.html

California is bracing for the most powerful gusts of the 2020 fire season, raising the threat of more blazes and blackouts in a region that’s already seen a record 4.1 million acres scorched this year.

A storm coming off the Pacific into Oregon and Washington will push winds over the Sierra Nevada, where gusts could reach up to 70 miles (112 kilometers) per hour in some isolated canyons, said Eric Kurth, a National Weather Service meteorologist in Sacramento.

“It looks likely to be the strongest event of the year,” Kurth said by telephone. “It looks stronger than any of those ones we have seen.” [more]

Tough fire season takes toll on firefighters’ mental health
    https://wildfiretoday.com/2020/10/23/tough-fire-season-takes-toll-on-firefighters-mental-health/

Now state and federal officials and mental health experts are bracing for firefighters to come home and start processing what they’ve been through. It’s not uncommon for wildland firefighters, even in a less-intense year, to develop depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, unhealthy substance use or suicidal thoughts.

“When you almost die on a wildfire, away from your family and kids — that doesn’t go away,” said a U.S. Forest Service smokejumper who asked to remain anonymous for fear of reprisal from his employer. “I know people who wake up in the middle of the night, and in their dreams they’re getting burned over by a fire, because they almost did.”

This year feels like a breaking point for many firefighters, said Mike West, who resigned as a fire dispatcher for the U.S. Forest Service this summer after 17 years working various fire-related jobs for the agency. His resignation letter, which detailed his struggles with post-traumatic stress, has been widely shared online.

“People are burned out,” West said. “They’re incredibly tired. And I think it’s been building for several years, and this is the year people are finally being more open [about mental health].” [more]

  2. Strange Election “Coincidences”: 1 Blue Moon, 2 Asteroids And 3 Simultaneous Lightning Strikes
    https://endoftheamericandream.com/archives/strange-election-coincidences-1-blue-moon-2-asteroids-and-3-simultaneous-lightning-strikes

For example, there will be a “blue moon” on the Saturday before the election, and of course Halloween just also happens to fall on that particular Saturday. [and it's the day we turn the clocks back 1 hour]

What makes this even more unusual is the fact that this will be the very first Halloween blue moon to occur in all global time zones since 1944

On Thursday, an asteroid that is the “size of London’s Big Ben clock tower” zoomed past the Earth just minutes after the final presidential debate ended…

Perhaps that is just a “coincidence”, but another asteroid is scheduled to make an extremely close pass to Earth literally the day before the election.

Suit: Feds ignore risk of huge spills to endangered species
    https://www.yahoo.com/finance/news/suit-feds-ignore-risk-huge-164939800.html

Environmental groups asked a federal court Wednesday to throw out the Trump administration's assessment of oil and gas activity’s likely effects on endangered species in the Gulf of Mexico, saying it dismisses the chance of another disastrous blowout like the BP spill of 2010.

The National Marine Fisheries Service's 700-page analysis greatly underestimates both the likely number and size of oil spills, according to the suit filed by Earthjustice for the Sierra Club, the Center for Biological Diversity,Friends of the Earth, and Turtle Island Restoration Network. In a frank panel discussion alongside teenage environmental activist Greta Thunberg, legendary nature broadcaster David Attenborough said that he hoped the countries of the world would continue to keep the imminent threat of climate change in mind despite the pandemic that has dominated 2020.

“I am worried that people will take their eyes off the environmental issue because of the immediate problems they have on COVID,” Attenborough said on the panel, which was titled “David and Greta in Conversation: The Planetary Crisis” and part of Wildscreen Festival, a celebration of wildlife on film. “And of course it’s put off a series of conferences in which all the nations get together and talk.” [more]

EU says fossil fuel subsidies undermine its climate ambitions
    https://www.yahoo.com/news/eu-says-fossil-fuel-subsidies-145947675.html

A senior European Union official on Thursday urged member nations to stop subsiding fossil fuels responsible for greenhouse gases which are undermining the bloc's policies to tackle climate change.

"The European Green Deal is clear: fossil fuel subsidies have to end," EU Energy Commissioner Kadri Simson told the European Parliament on Thursday, referring to the EU's plan to reach net zero emissions by 2050.

"They remain a major impediment to a cost-efficient energy and climate transition, but also to a functioning internal market." [more]

U.S. nuclear plants in S. Carolina, Missouri face the highest quake risks -report
    https://www.yahoo.com/news/u-nuclear-plants-carolina-missouri-151758303.html

The U.S. nuclear power reactors facing the highest risks of a meltdown from earthquakes are not in tremor-prone California, but states including South Carolina and Missouri, an analysis of government data published on Thursday said.

The U.S. reactor facing the highest risk is Duke Energy Corp's H.B. Robinson near Hartsville, South Carolina, according to the analysis ... by the Union of Concerned Scientists.

Robinson faces a one in 7,700 chance annually that a quake would cause a meltdown, said the analysis, based on Duke's estimates submitted to the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC).

Ameren Corp's Callaway reactor in Fulton, Missouri faces a one in 13,800 chance of a meltdown annually, the analysis said. Barry Cox, the site vice president at Callaway, said the plant invests millions of dollars on protections against earthquakes and other natural disasters. [more]
