Event Update For 2019-11-14

The seas, lakes and oceans are now pluming deadly hydrogen sulfide and suffocating methane. Hydrogen sulfide is a highly toxic water-soluble heavier-than-air gas and will accumulate in low-lying areas. Methane is slightly more buoyant than normal air and so will be all around, but will tend to contaminate our atmosphere from the top down. These gases are sickening and killing oxygen-using life all around the world, including human life, as our atmosphere is increasingly poisoned. Because both gases are highly flammable and because our entire civilization is built around fire and flammable fuels, this is leading to more fires and explosions. This is an extinction level event and will likely decimate both the biosphere and human population and it is debatable whether humankind can survive this event.

A. More fires and more explosions, especially along the coasts, but everywhere generally.
B. Many more animal die-offs, of all kinds, and especially oceanic species.
C. More multiples of people will be found dead in their homes, as if they'd dropped dead.
D. More corpses found in low-lying areas, all over the world.
E. More unusual vehicular accidents.
F. Improved unemployment numbers as people die off.

2019-11-14 - Bacteria may contribute more to climate change as planet heats up:

Quote: "As bacteria adapt to hotter temperatures, they speed up their respiration rate and release more carbon, potentially accelerating climate change."

Note: So that's another self-reinforcing feedback. Warmer temps make bacteria produce more CO2, which makes temps warmer, which makes them produce more CO2, which makes temps warmer, and so on and so on. There's probably an upper limit on that, beyond which this effect diminishes or disappears, but it's highly unlikely that any human beings will still be alive to see that limit reached...

Methane emissions from coalmines could stoke climate crisis

The methane emissions leaking from the world’s coalmines could be stoking the global climate crisis at the same rate as the shipping and aviation industries combined.

The International Energy Agency (IEA) estimated that the amount of methane seeping from new and disused coalmines may have reached just under 40m tonnes last year.

The global energy watchdog estimates that one tonne of methane is the climate equivalent of 30 tonnes of carbon dioxide. This would put annual coalmine emissions broadly in line with the international aviation and shipping sectors combined. [more]

The U.S. Natural Gas Boom Is Fueling A Global Plastics Boom

America is producing so much ethane that more than 300 new petrochemical and plastics plants are either planned or are under construction around the U.S.

But there’s more ethane than existing U.S. plants can use, so in short order the U.S. has also become the world’s leading exporter of ethane. That’s feeding growing plastics industries in India and China, as well as Europe and those exports are expected to keep growing. [more; oh, that's just swell . ..]

Three cows swept away by Hurricane Dorian found on island miles from shore – “Who knows exactly, but the cows certainly have a gripping story to share”

The only way to get to Cape Lookout National Seashore, a 56-mile chain of undeveloped barrier islands in North Carolina’s Outer Banks, is by boat. It’s not uncommon for visitors to spot bottlenose dolphins, or even the occasional seal. But last month, park officials stumbled across some unexpected new inhabitants: a trio of bedraggled-looking cows making themselves at home on the sandy shores.

Though only the cows know for sure exactly how they ended up on an island located several miles offshore, B.G. Horvat, the park’s spokesman, has a theory. He told the Charlotte Observer they probably swam at least four miles to get there after Hurricane Dorian crashed into North Carolina’s coast in September, sweeping them out to sea.

On Sept. 6, Hurricane Dorian blasted the island with Category 1 force winds and rain, creating what locals described as a “mini tsunami.” The low-lying marshlands were soon inundated with an estimated eight feet of water.

Dozens of wild horses drowned. In the immediate aftermath of the storm, Woody Hancock, who manages the herd, told the Carteret County News-Times that he believed many of the community’s beloved wild cattle were dead, too. Roughly 20 cows had freely roamed on private land on the island, and they were all gone. [more]

She Visited Every Country On Earth. She Saw A World Overwhelmed By Plastic Trash.

Jessica Nabongo has visited every country on earth, and one of the most important lessons she took home with her was about plastic pollution.

In October, the 35-year-old Ugandan-American travel blogger and former consultant for the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization completed her goal of seeing all 193 U.N. member states, plus the two nonmember states and a handful of territories. Her extensive travels revealed many things, not least the challenges inherent in navigating so many countries as a woman [of] color. Few black women are known to have visited every country as Nabongo has.

Yet, what was most starkly apparent to her as she relentlessly crossed borders, hopped flights and checked into hotels in pursuit of her dream, was the omnipresence of single-use plastics.

Plastic water bottles, shopping bags and food packets littering gorgeous beaches, piled on the side of rural roads, and blocking urban drains. Nabongo witnessed plastic pollution and its consequences in just about every country, she told HuffPost. [more]
