2019-10-01 - Jellyfish population increasing in the waters around Juneau (Alaska):

http://www.usnews.com/news/best-states/alaska/articles/2019-09-28/alaska-residents-to-see-increased-jellyfish-sightings

Quote: "Alaska scientists have confirmed an increasing number of moon jellyfish floating around Juneau waters. Juneau Empire reported Friday that warm ocean temperatures and plentiful food in the form of zooplankton have contributed to the increased sightings. A marine biology professor says the moon jellyfish known as Aurelia aurita have reached maturity after spawning in early spring. Experts say residents could be stung and urge people not to pick up beached jellyfish. Scientists say the sting of the moon jellyfish is considered less painful than the sting of some others. Experts have recommended watching the jellyfish from a pier for the best views. Scientists say there are concerns that too many jellyfish in the water could throw off the ecosystem because they would eat too many zooplankton."

Note: Jellyfish reproduce faster in warmer waters. Jellyfish survived the Great Dying and since the current extinction event is a repeat of the Great Dying, they'll undoubtedly survive the current extinction event too. Huge numbers of jellyfish have been clogging up the water intakes at nuclear plants off and on in recent years, so they seem to be doing just fine. They'll be here long after the last human being has died just as they were here long before the first human being existed...

2019-10-01 - Giant African snails carrying diseases spread all across Cuba:

Quote: "Silently and without pause, the giant African snail has been invading Cuba. With their shiny, brilliantly striped shells and bodies up to 8 inches long, the snails have become public enemy No. 1 for epidemiologists, and citizens have grown to fear their ability to transmit diseases and harm crops. "I never heard of them before, but now they're everywhere," said Yusmila Marin, a 29-year-old nurse who lives in a neighborhood rife with the mollusks, whose scientific name is Achatina Fulica. In recent months, Cuban authorities have activated the nationwide civil defense system to battle the snails. But some say the state's response is inadequate. Marin and families in the Villa Panamericana neighborhood are keeping children indoors to play due to the danger of infection from the snails, which can transmit a potentially severe brain infection called meningoencephalitis and an abdominal disease known as angiostrongyliasis. First detected in Cuba in 2014, the snail can now be found throughout Havana and in almost every one of the island's provinces. It's not known how the snail arrived in the nation."

Note: Doesn't sound like they're gonna have any more luck getting rid of these things than we've had getting rid of invasive fire ants and pythons here in the US...

Note: Must have been a rotten egg odor if they thought there was a gas leak. But there was no gas leak, so what WAS that odor? Probably some poison gas blowing by in the atmosphere outside that got sucked into the school via the HVAC system. Not enough to kill anyone this time, so that's good, but that doesn't mean there won't be enough to kill people next time...

Note: The only right they have is the right to join the skull pile. The Earth will kill them all. Ergo, they shouldn't BE born. It's the end of the world. Any child born from here on out has nothing to look forward to but misery and/or death. We have PLENTY of people who are going to suffer and die already and there's no moral or rational reason whatsoever to create more people and inflict that same fate on them. Dropping dead is the BEST possibility children have to look forward to at this point. Also see the 8-year-old boy who sickened at school then dropped dead near his home in Chickamauga, Georgia on this day. Parents can't keep their children alive. Parents can't even keep themselves alive...

Quote: "'Our meters are calibrated to detect natural gas or propane on a very minute level,' he said. 'There were no traces of that found.' The odor of sulfur was noticeable in some areas on the King Street side of the campus where many KVCAP employees who had been evacuated from the Drapeau building were standing as firefighters checked buildings. Esler said that sometimes the sewer system can create hydrogen sulfate gas and, depending on the atmosphere, a smell of sulfur."

I thought "Oh my God what's that smell?" It's as bad as it gets. The only way I can describe it like vomit. It is very strong. I've been on Facebook to warn people. I've spoken to a few other people and they are all talking about it. I don't want to go outside unless I have to. It's making me feel ill. It is truly awful.'"

Quote: "And then there’s that rotting smell. As the permafrost thaws, animals and plants frozen for thousands of years begin to decompose and send a steady flow of carbon dioxide and other gases into the atmosphere — accelerating climate change. 'The permafrost is thawing so fast,' said Anna Liljedahl, an associate professor at the University of Alaska in Fairbanks. 'We scientists can’t keep up anymore.'"

2019-10-07 - Area of the East Siberian Sea begins boiling with methane like never seen before:

http://ukrainetoday.org/2019/10/07/scientists-discover-record-methane-emission-in-the-russian-arctic/
http://nonperele.com/sea-boiling-with-methane-in-siberia-is-unlike-anything-seen-before/

Quote: "Scientists in Siberia have discovered an area of sea that is 'boiling' with methane, with bubbles that can be scooped from the water with buckets. Researchers on an expedition to the East Siberian Sea said the 'methane fountain' was unlike anything they had seen before, with concentrations of the gas in the region to be six to seven times higher than the global average."

Quote: "A huge proportion of Siberia is covered in permafrost, but this is starting to change. Over recent years, scientists working in remote regions have started documenting changes to the landscape thought to be related to it thawing, including huge craters. In 2016, footage emerged of the ground wobbling 'like jelly.'"

Quote: "'This is the most powerful gas fountain I've ever seen,' Semiletov said, according to a translation from the Moscow Times. 'No one has ever recorded anything like this before.'"

Note: A methane release chain reaction has begun. More methane entering the atmosphere causes more warming, which releases more methane, which causes more warming, which releases more methane, and on and on. This process is unstoppable and this problem alone would be enough to wipe humanity off the face of the Earth - but we face many other problems too. The pace of events is clearly picking up. It was only 4 years ago that methane began exploding out of the ground in Siberia and leaving gigantic craters in the landscape and now methane is boiling out of the sea. But that's what you'd expect - the end of the world is a non-linear event; it started small and slow decades ago and now the 'catastrophe curve' is going vertical. Our time is short and rapidly getting shorter...

Quote: "Nearly two-thirds of North American birds studied will go extinct if global warming hits 3 degrees Celsius (5.4°F), a new report from the National Audubon Society finds. Orioles, eagles, grouse and gulls are among 389 types of bird -- 64% of 604 species assessed on this continent -- that are highly or moderately vulnerable to climate change, the study says. The stark warning follows research published last month that showed the US and Canada had lost 2.9 billion birds in about the last 50 years."

Note: The current extinction event is a repeat of the Permian-Triassic extinction event of 252 million years ago. Birds arose 160 million years ago, so they didn't live through the Permian-Triassic extinction, so I would not count on ANY birds of ANY species surviving the current extinction event. The future may very well be entirely devoid of birds. Human beings may not be around long enough to see that though...

2019-10-14 - Animals are disappearing from forests, with grave consequences for the fight against climate breakdown:

http://theconversation.com/animals-are-disappearing-from-forests-with-grave-consequences-for-the-fight-against-climate-breakdown-new-research-124746

Quote: "The disappearance of animals from otherwise intact habitats is known as defaunation, and it is leading to a growing number of empty forests not just in tropical countries, but around the world. The UK has already lost most of its largest species (think lynx, wolf, and wisent), while woodland bird numbers have declined by a quarter since 1970."

Note: Animal life disappearing, insects disappearing, birds disappearing, fish disappearing. It's like there's some kind of trend!

2019-10-14 - Both sea ice extent and sea ice volume in the Arctic were at the lowest level ever recorded on Oct 13:
http://arctic-news.blogspot.com/2019/10/arctic-ocean-october-2019.html

Note: Curves look a bit ominous there. The ice is now recovering, but the curve looks flatter, meaning it's recovering more slowly than any year previously measured, so far anyway. In any case, the trend is clear enough. Soon enough there will be a 'blue ocean event' and then the oceans will begin absorbing massive amounts of heat, and the methane already exploding out of the ground in Siberia and boiling out of the ocean in the East Siberian Sea will go berserk, inevitably leading to the end of human civilization, among other things...

Quote: "While the two entities could not locate the cause of the odor, they were '100 percent sure' that it was not a gas leak, thanks to specialized equipment used to monitor the presence of raw gas, said Jason White, the school system’s director of operations and student services."

Note: If it smelled like the odorant added to natural gas but it wasn't natural gas then it was probably poison gas. Ergo, everything's fine, resume school!

http://www.inquirer.com/columnists/attytood/pennsylvania-bill-pipeline-protests-felony-free-speech-20191017.html

Quote: "If that sounds vaguely familiar, the GOP senator’s plan is almost identical to a 2017 bill that passed the Pennsylvania Senate and died in the House. That bill also sparked a backlash from critics who said the bill’s only really purpose was to ice the First Amendment rights of legitimate dissenters, and scare away protest newcomers."

Quote: "Also back for another go-round is an arguably more punitive measure from a different GOP lawmaker — Sen. Scott Martin of Lancaster County, site of some of Pennsylvania’s most intense anti-pipeline protests — that aims to make protesters responsible for paying back governments for the costs of responding to their actions. A similar bill went nowhere in 2017."

Note: Expect to see more cracking down on protesters as the climate catastrophe continues to escalate, and not just in Pennsylvania. Since the GOP is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Big Fossil Fuel, expect to see the GOP being the primary instigator in proposing most or all of these freedom-restricting and speech-restricting laws in the US, as their masters dictate. But whatever laws they may pass, whatever restrictions they may place on people, the Earth is not bound by any of that, and the climate catastrophe will continue to escalate...

2019-10-20 - Container ship fires escalating, marine insurance body issues urgent call for improved firefighting systems:
http://www.marinelog.com/news/containership-fires-time-for-action-at-imo-says-iumi/

Quote: "This year has already seen an alarming number of containership fires including Yantian Express, APL Vancouver, Grande America, E.R. Kobe and KMTC Hong Kong. The escalation is of growing concern to IUMI (International Union of Marine Insurance) which used a recent forum to call for an urgent improvement to onboard firefighting systems."

Note: Sounds like insurerspeak for 'OMG, this is getting expensive! HELP!' There's no mention about WHY container ship fires are escalating. Of course, that's not really their primary concern. Their concern is simply THAT container ship fires are escalating and it's costing them money. Given that they are unaware of JJFH, it is highly unlikely that they will be able to address the problem adequately and the fires will thus continue to escalate...

Neither body has signs of violence, a police and border guard spokesman told ERR. The woman was 25 years old, and the man was 21 years old. Both bodies will undergo an autopsy to determine the cause of death. Both were Finnish citizens who, according to the police, were not familiar with each other."

Quote: "According to Estonian police, the first body was discovered at 3:00 a.m. and the second at 5:00 a.m. The police said that the incidents did not appear to be related and neither case indicated there had been any violence involved."

Quote: "A 69-year-old woman was found dead aboard a boat that caught fire while docked at the Port of Los Angeles at Terminal Island early Monday, fire officials said. A 28-foot cabin cruiser was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived at Berth 258 near the Al Larson Marina shortly after 4 a.m. They put out the fire in 16 minutes, then discovered the woman dead aboard the boat, which was still afloat, said Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Brian Humphrey."

2019-10-21 - US air quality has declined since Trump took office:
http://finance.yahoo.com/news/u-air-quality-improving-now-080027368.html

Quote: "After years of decline, a spike in air pollution may have taken the lives of almost 10,000 additional Americans over two years."

Note: Trump has eliminated many pollution regulations, so corporations are taking advantage of their ability to spew greater amounts of pollution into the air, ground and water, which obviously costs people their lives. Were Trump to serve two terms, his pollution-boosting regulatory changes alone would probably result in nearly as many deaths of US citizens as the total number of deaths of US soldiers during the entirety of the Vietnam War. These changes also reduce the amount of time that the human race has left before extinction, so the longer he remains in office, the shorter everyone's life is apt to be. US lifespan began declining in 2016 and has declined every year since. That's an indication that the human race has begun to fall off the Seneca Cliff. At the bottom of that cliff is extinction...

http://nationalpost.com/news/world/melting-glacier-in-the-arctic-uncovers-five-islands-we-didnt-know-existed-say-russian-navy

Note: This area is west of parts of Siberia, so it makes sense that a glacier here would be melting away. The permafrost in Siberia is melting now, destabilizing the ground across millions of acres and causing massive explosive methane outgassing events that leave gigantic craters in the ground. Vast amounts of ancient frozen carbon - dead animals and plants - have begun to rot in Siberia as the ground thaws. That smell is from methane and hydrogen sulfide, the byproducts of anaerobic digestion of biomatter by bacteria and archaea. That entire area is basically becoming one gigantic outgassing event spanning millions of acres. Methane is boiling out of the East Siberia Sea now too. Some of the residents of Siberia have used the phrase 'the end of the world' and they're not wrong. But on the plus side...new islands!

2019-10-26 - Unknown rotten egg odor affects hundreds of people in coastal Hull (Britain):

http://www.northerngasnetworks.co.uk/incident/smell-of-gas-paragon-interchange-hull/

Quote: "It affected hundreds of people and brought the city centre to a standstill. But the suspected gas leak on Saturday afternoon was not a gas leak at all - and was simply just an 'eggy smell'."

Quote: "Humberside Police had cordoned off a large area surrounding Hull Paragon Interchange on Saturday afternoon so firefighters could attempt to find the epicentre of a 'sulphuric-type smell'."

Quote: "However, further tests proved no gas had been located anywhere at the station and the ominous smell had in fact been the result of an unprecedented amount of rainfall. The service said that a large amount of water filling the sewers had disturbed sediment in the draining system - which then kicked out a nasty smell."

Note: Sounds semi-plausible - water fills sewers, pushes gases out. Could just be some hydrogen sulfide blowing in off the ocean though, or even hydrogen sulfide in the rain itself. Either way, if you got sickened by the smell, it's because you got poisoned. There'll probably be an uptick in the number of people dying from cardiac arrest or 'medical events' in the next few days in this area...

2019-10-30 - Driller hits pocket of hydrogen sulfide and methane in Brighton (New York):
http://www.whec.com/news/methane-leak-in-brighton-worries-homeowners/5539521/

Quote: "News10NBC learned the root of the problem. Aces Energy and Frey Drilling installed a geothermal well behind Jeremiah Green's home. In the process, drillers tell News10NBC they hit a methane pocket. 'Around midday Tuesday we started noticed a foul odor kind of like a sulfur smell,' Green said. 'It comes and goes but it's a really strong odor when it hits you.'"

Note: Methane and hydrogen sulfide occur in the same environments. The sulfur smell has to be hydrogen sulfide. Obviously it's not methane, since methane is odorless...

Quote: "53-year-old businessman was charred to death in his car as passersby kept recording the incident on their mobile phones without bothering to rescue him here on Wednesday morning. The incident took place around 10 am on the Kota-Udaipur highway near Dhakadkhedi village when Premchand Jain, a resident of Riddhi-Siddhi Enclave in Kunhari area of Kota, was on his way to his factory in Anantpura. Initial investigation suggested that a short-circuit led to the incident."

Note: Warned about that problem many times. Guess he didn't get the memo. You can buy a seatbelt-cutting and window-breaking tool for like ten or twenty bucks. Pretty cheap form of just-in-case insurance when you consider that becoming a charred skeleton is the potential alternative!
