Event Update For 2018-04-24

The seas, lakes and oceans are now pluming deadly hydrogen sulfide and suffocating methane. Hydrogen sulfide is a highly toxic water-soluble heavier-than-air gas and will accumulate in low-lying areas. Methane is slightly more buoyant than normal air and so will be all around, but will tend to contaminate our atmosphere from the top down. These gases are sickening and killing oxygen-using life all around the world, including human life, as our atmosphere is increasingly poisoned. Because both gases are highly flammable and because our entire civilization is built around fire and flammable fuels, this is leading to more fires and explosions. This is an extinction level event and will likely decimate both the biosphere and human population and it is debatable whether humankind can survive this event.

A. More fires and more explosions, especially along the coasts, but everywhere generally.
B. Many more animal die-offs, of all kinds, and especially oceanic species.
C. More multiples of people will be found dead in their homes, as if they'd dropped dead.
D. More corpses found in low-lying areas, all over the world.
E. More unusual vehicular accidents.
F. Improved unemployment numbers as people die off.

The illusion of time: Carlo Rovelli's book 'The Order of Time' posits that reality is simply a complex network of events

According to theoretical physicist Carlo Rovelli, time is an illusion: our naive perception of its flow doesn't correspond to physical reality. Indeed, as Rovelli argues in The Order of Time, much more is illusory, including Isaac Newton's picture of a universally ticking clock. Even Albert Einstein's relativistic space-time - an elastic manifold that contorts so that local times differ depending on one's relative speed or proximity to a mass - is just an effective simplification.

So what does Rovelli think is really going on? He posits that reality is just a complex network of events onto which we project sequences of past, present and future. The whole Universe obeys the laws of quantum mechanics and thermodynamics, out of which time emerges.

Rovelli is one of the creators and champions of loop quantum gravity theory, one of several ongoing attempts to marry quantum mechanics with general relativity. In contrast to the better-known string theory, loop quantum gravity does not attempt to be a 'theory of everything' out of which we can generate all of particle physics and gravitation. Nevertheless, its agenda of joining up these two fundamentally differing laws is incredibly ambitious. [more; for Jonny]

Trump backtracks on Syria and focuses on Iran after talks with Macron

So much for an abrupt U.S. pullout from Syria.

The president said at a White House news conference with French President Emmanuel Macron at his side that before the U.S. withdraws from Syria, "we want to leave a strong and lasting footprint." This long-term approach, he added, was "a very big part" of his conversation with Macron, who told reporters that he and Trump now agree that the Syria problem involves more than Trump's priority of ridding the country of Islamic State extremists.

The two leaders indicated that they see Syria as part of a broader problem of instability in the Middle East, which includes Iran's role in Syria and Iraq. [more]

New Mexico regulators demand answers from PNM on coal silo collapse

The Public Service Company of New Mexico has 13 days to explain the cause of the March coal silo collapse and resulting fire at its San Juan Generating Station, according to an order issued Wednesday by the New Mexico Public Regulation Commission.
The order also requires PNM to explain what repairs it plans to make and when it will make them to restore the coal-fired unit No. 1 to service at the power plant near Farmington.
Eight advocacy groups, led by Santa Fe-based New Energy Economy, petitioned the PRC on April 12 for an investigation of the collapse and fire and a cost-benefit analysis by PNM to justify the unit’s continued operation. The petition asked whether further investment in the generation plant is fair to ratepayers compared to investment in other energy sources. [more]

London has warmest April day in nearly 70 years, as enormous heat dome stalls over Europe

While abnormally cold weather continues to grip the Eastern United States, a full-fledged dose of summer weather has overtaken much of Europe.

An enormous heat dome, parked over Germany, has covered a large part of the continent in record or near-record warmth.
High temperatures in the 70s and 80s (roughly 20 to 30 Celsius) were widespread Thursday.

The British Met Office tweeted that St. James’s Park in London soared to 84.4 degrees (29.1 Celsius), its warmest temperature in April since 1949, when it hit 84.9 (29.4 Celsius).

Paris also experienced historically warm April conditions. Its temperature surpassed 82 degrees before April 20 for the first time since 1949, MeteoFrance reported. [more]

  6. Mayer Hillman on the climate reality no one else will dare mention – “We’re doomed. There are no means of reversing the process which is melting the polar ice caps. And very few appear to be prepared to say so.”

“We’re doomed,” says Mayer Hillman with such a beaming smile that it takes a moment for the words to sink in. “The outcome is death, and it’s the end of most life on the planet because we’re so dependent on the burning of fossil fuels. There are no means of reversing the process which is melting the polar ice caps. And very few appear to be prepared to say so.” [Des always urges caution with these doom stories – usually, they include sweeping claims that conceal a more complex reality. We may see an analysis of this story on Climate Feedback. But, of course, Desdemona agrees with the overall thrust of his argument.] [more]

Photo gallery: The uninhabited island that’s home to 37 million pieces of trash

A small island smack in the middle of the South Pacific has never been inhabited by people — and yet, its white sand beaches are home to more than 37 million pieces of junk.

Every day on Henderson Island — one of the most remote places on Earth — trash from every continent except Antarctica washes up its shores. Fishing nets and floats, water bottles, and plastics break into small particles against the rocks and sand. [more]

    All Hail The Dumbfuck Bubble

Call it the "Trump bubble" for short. There's a corner of delusion for everyone. How big is this bubble? 7.5 billion +/- five people who don't know each other by name...

Bulls can thank Jeff Gundlach for sponsoring today's rally. In addition to putting a last-ditch bid under Tech, he just single-handedly ended the fake reflation bubble. Which leaves only one bubble left...

Suffice to say that the one thing all of these various Ponzi delusions have in common is that they are all 100% correlated to brick-shitting PANIC. [more; be sure to see his first chart!]
