2016-05-01 - Passenger plane hit by fire at 6 AM, possible explosions, makes emergency landing in coastal Newark (New Jersey):

Quote: "Passengers on the plane reported feeling and hearing what they described as an 'explosion' or a 'booming sound.' One passenger told News 12 that others who were sitting over the wing reported seeing flames."

Note: This is the 42nd aircraft to smoke/burn/explode in 2016...

2016-05-01 - Car importer hit by fire, RV and two dozen cars destroyed, in Ontario (California):

2016-05-02 - Mysterious explosion shakes homes as rotten egg odor hits the island of Bermuda:

Quote: "The cause of an explosion that shook homes in the West End last night is still unknown. Emergency services investigated a loud sound in the Watford Bridge and Mangrove Bay area just before 10pm but came up with no clues as to why it happened. A report of a 'strong smell of gas' near Morgan’s Point at about 10.30pm led to another search in that area."

2016-05-02 - Rotten egg odor hits Alameda, San Leandro, Oakland and Castro Valley (California), PG&E can't find source:

Quote: "Around 7:15 p.m., fire officials with the Alameda Fire Department said they received several calls reporting the smell of natural gas. PG&E crews arrived at 7:35 p.m. but were unable to locate the smell's source."

Note: Natural gas is odorless so they add methyl mercaptan to it, which smells like rotten eggs. Maybe they couldn't find the source of the natural gas because it wasn't natural gas - hydrogen sulfide also smells like rotten eggs, at least at low concentrations. In fact, one method of making methyl mercaptan uses hydrogen sulfide as an ingredient, so people are understandably confusing the odors. Also see the boat that burst into flame while docked in Oakland on this day...

2016-05-03 - Huge wildfire rages into Fort McMurray (Canada), 1600+ buildings destroyed, 80,000+ people evacuated:

Quote: "A massive wildfire that has forced the evacuation of all 88,000 people from Fort McMurray could destroy much of the Canadian city, local officials warn."

Quote: "The wildfire burning in the city limits has forced the largest fire evacuation in Alberta’s history. It’s expected to get worse Wednesday, when winds are forecast to switch direction and increase in intensity, at speeds of 25 to 50 kilometres per hour. At a Tuesday afternoon press conference, Premier Rachel Notley said 'this is bigger than Slave Lake.' The Slave Lake fire in 2011 decimated the town and forced the evacuation of 9,000 people."

Quote: "Residents were panicked. Highway 63 is the only road out of the city and flames jumped the road. The wildfire, whipped by unpredictable winds on a day of high temperatures, worsened dramatically in a short time and many residents had little notice to flee."

2016-05-04 - Huge wildfire shifts direction near Fort McMurray in Alberta (Canada), evacuation centers evacuated:

Quote: "The wildfire that devastated the Fort McMurray region this week is expected to trigger the largest insured property losses from a single disaster in Canadian history. With an estimated 1,600 homes, small businesses and other structures destroyed in the inferno — more than four times the number of homes lost in the disastrous Slave Lake fire — insurance losses could range as high as $9.3 billion."

Note: There was a Samsung plant that went up in flames in 2014 in South Korea, and that fire did about a billion dollars in damage, mentioned in the 2014-03-09 update. That was just one facility that burned though, so it's not really comparable to a city burning. Looks like this McMurray fire will easily dwarf the billion-dollar cost of the Samsung fire though, comparable or not...

2016-05-04 - Himalayas going up in flames as 21,000 fires burn on the flanks of the mountains, 9000 people fight the fires:

Quote: "The temperatures are so high that more than 300 people have now perished as a result of heat injuries. And Indian officials have now banned cooking during the day in an effort to reduce loss of life. But today the forests themselves are cooking as the air is filled with the smoke of more than 21,000 fires burning upon the flanks of India’s great mountain ranges."

Quote: "Now conditions are so extreme that an army of 9,000 firefighters, including helicopter fire suppression craft, have been mobilized by the government of India in a desperate effort to beat back the flames."

Coast Guard Petty Officer 1st Class Adam Sansoucie says a hotel guest in Wrightsville Beach saw a person eject from the burning plane shortly before 5 p.m. Friday."

Note: This is the 42nd aircraft to smoke/burn/explode in 2016...

2016-05-06 - Numerous wildfires rage throughout Alberta (Canada), oil facilities endangered:

Quote: "Huge forest fires have already torched at least 1,600 homes and forced the evacuation of about 88,000 people in the region, including the entire population of the oil sands town of Fort McMurray. Forty-nine wildfires were still burning as of Friday morning, and wind gusts of up to 25 miles per hour were expected. Some 1,110 firefighters, 145 helicopters and 22 air tankers are currently battling the fires."

Quote: "The Nebraska State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating a fire that destroyed an Aurora Cooperative airplane hangar in Henderson Saturday night. In a statement Sunday President and CEO Chris Vincent said the hangar, including aircraft inside, appears to be a total loss. No injuries were reported."

Note: If it was just one aircraft inside they would have said 'the aircraft', so it was more than one, so I'll just call it two to be conservative. These are the 43rd and 44th aircraft to smoke/burn/explode in 2016...

2016-05-08 - Boat destroyed by fire at 5:15 AM at marina in Spring Lake (Michigan), 1 killed:

Note: These are the 790th and 791st boats or ships to burn in 2016...

2016-05-08 - Pickup truck bursts into flame while parked at home on Santa Rita Drive in Odessa (Texas), another vehicle burns too:

Quote: "This was the second vehicle fire in Odessa Sunday afternoon. The other was located in an alley behind McKnight Drive and 50th Street. Neighbors said the fire was put out within fifteen minutes."

Note: Also see the college student, woman, 21, who dropped dead in her dorm room in Odessa on this day...

2016-05-08 - Car bursts into flame on State Street in Racine (Wisconsin), near Lake Michigan:

Quote: "Less than 24-hours after battling a blaze that engulfed a car in the parking lot of the Save-A-Lot grocery store, 1500 State St., Racine firefighters were back on the roadway putting out another car fire."

Note: I mentioned that car fire at the Save-A-Lot in the 2016-05-06 update. That wasn't the only car fire in Racine that day either - four cars and three garages went up in flames at 1 AM in Racine too, also mentioned in the 2016-05-06 update. So in two days, it was six cars and three garages that went up in flames in Racine in three separate incidents. Eventually it's going to be every vehicle and every building going up in flames everywhere, but we'll see 'incident clusters' like this as we ramp up toward complete destruction...

2016-05-08 - Honda car dealership damaged by fire in coastal Dubai (UAE):

2016-05-08 - 17 forest fires rage in Amur Region (Russia), state of emergency declared:

Category: Animal Die-Offs

2016-05-09 - Hypoxic and anoxic areas spreading in the oceans since at least as far back as 2002, killing ocean life:

Quote: "It was crabbers who first reported something amiss. In 2002, they began pulling in traps full of corpses. (Crabs should be alive when you catch them.) And they mentioned something else: Little octopuses had followed their crab lines to the surface, as if fleeing inhospitable conditions below. Then heaps of dead crustaceans began washing ashore along a stretch of Oregon’s coast."

Quote: "Every year since, those hypoxic waters have appeared in late summer and early autumn. In 2006, they became anoxic, meaning they lost all their oxygen. 'You didn’t see a single fish in a day,' says Jack Barth, a professor at Oregon State University, 'just the piles of crab carcasses and worms that had come out of the bottom, sort of wafting in the current.' When scientists examined the roughly 50-year record of oxygen measurements from the region, they couldn’t find a single comparable event in the past. The hypoxia, it seemed, was unprecedented. And then it spread."

Quote: "These suffocated patches of ocean aren’t just bad for fishermen and their catch; they represent a change in the ocean that has, at times in Earth’s past, heralded mass extinction."

Quote: "Almost anywhere anyone has looked in recent years — including the Atlantic Ocean — those deep, naturally low-oxygen waters have pushed upwards, in some places by an average of three feet per year."

Quote: "Deep in the ocean live anaerobic microbes that emit the poisonous gas hydrogen sulfide as a byproduct. Lee Kump, head of the Department of Geosciences at Pennsylvania State University, thinks that, as the low-oxygen waters expanded in the End Permian ocean, these microbes surfaced. The gas they spewed may have poisoned the atmosphere and torn holes in the ozone layer. A die-off that began in the ocean spread to land. Over 90 percent of marine species, including trilobites, went extinct, as did 70 percent of terrestrial species."

Note: The oxygen-free zones spreading upward - that's the chemocline rising to the surface. When the chemocline reaches the surface, accumulated methane and hydrogen sulfide are released into the atmosphere, which is why so many coastal cities have been hit by 'foul odors' and 'rotten egg' odors in recent times. Some people have been blaming Fukushima for the mass ocean deaths, but the spreading dead zones and oceanic die-offs preceded Fukushima by close to a decade, at least, and it's been getting steadily worse since then. This is how human civilization comes to an end, at least on the surface of the Earth, and the process is well underway and it is unstoppable. Evacuate the surface of the Earth or die - those are the choices...

2016-05-09 - All of a sudden, fish are dying by the MILLIONS all over the planet:

Note: It's not really 'all of a sudden'. If one were paying attention, it's been ramping up for some years, as mentioned in the article above and documented by me every day since early 2012. But extinction events like the one currently in progress do accelerate over time and this one is roaring along pretty good now, so more people - even economists! - are noticing the die-offs, which are becoming both larger and increasingly common...

2016-05-09 - Cataclysmic die-off of ocean life continues along the coast in Chile:

2016-05-09 - Thousands of fish found dead in the water in coastal Saint Petersburg (Russia), seagulls won't touch them:

2016-05-11 - Man found on fire and dead under tree near Poth in Wilson County (Texas):

Quote: "'(Detectives) couldn't smell anything as far as accelerants,' he said."

Note: Methane is odorless and if this man's clothes had been contaminated with hydrogen sulfide then the fire wouldn't have left any of that to smell either. Gasoline would leave an odor, so this wasn't a fire involving gasoline. Might've just been a smoker having a cig or someone using a cellphone while sitting under a tree, who happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time when some methane and/or hydrogen sulfide blew by, ignited and burned him to death. Seems quite similar to the woman who burst into flame while sitting on a park bench in coastal Flensburg (Germany), mentioned in the 2015-11-05 update). Mostly people are burning to death in their vehicles or homes, but not always...

2016-05-11 - Person found burned to death at 11:45 PM in burning car near Maricopa Highway and Highway 99 (California):

Note: Well, until the next fire anyway...

Category: Fires And Explosions

2016-05-13 - Massive tire fire breaks out at 1 AM in Seseña (Spain), toxic smoke blankets area, 9000 people evacuated:

Quote: "Spain's leading El Pais newspaper reported that the dump holds 110,000 tons of used tyres."

Quote: "'Everything points to the fact that this disaster was deliberate,' said Sesena Mayor Carlos Velazquez to Spanish radio. He pointed out that the area had been rained on for several days, making an accidental ignition doubtful."

Note: They think it was deliberate but only because they can't figure out how it could start otherwise. I too was puzzled at first by the various tire fires, and there have been quite a few really huge tire fires, though this may be the biggest one so far. Eventually I figured it out - the problem is steel-belted radials. The steel wires inside steel-belted radials, once exposed to the air, like in heavily used tires like the ones that end up in dumps like this - the wires get rusty, and the rust reacts with any hydrogen sulfide that blows by, which causes sparking and fires, no other ignition source necessary. And since there's flammable tire rubber right next to the rusty steel wires, you get a tire fire. So we'll keep seeing tire fires like this one and the others before it. The tire fires are basically the same kind of fires as the piles of scrap metal that have been bursting into flame, but with lots of extra tire rubber...

2016-05-13 - Huge pallet fire breaks out, 3000 pallets burn, nearby homes scorched, on Enfield Road in Huncoat (Britain):

Quote: "Two dozen people were evacuated from their homes as a result of the fire, involving 3,000 wooden pallets, which could be ‘seen for miles’."

Quote: "Windows and guttering of some houses in Alder Grove, where residents were evacuated, melted from the heat, according to a fire crew manager."

Note: The pallet fires are very similar to the tire fires. Instead of steel wires, it's the nails and screws and staples with which pallets are built and instead of flammable rubber near the rusty iron/steel, it's flammable wood. So just as there have been numerous huge tire fires in recent years, so too have there been numerous pallet fires, some so big they were visible from space...

2016-05-15 - Motorcycle bursts into flame while parked in Thamel, Kathmandu (Nepal):

Note: Since more vehicles are burning generally, and since most vehicles spend most of their time parked, the result is more parked vehicles bursting into flame. All vehicles are now randomly-igniting firebombs that can go off at any time, so park a vehicle near anything you don't want to see on fire - like your home - at your own risk...

2016-05-17 - Severe wildfire seasons are now the new normal:

Quote: "This year should bring a 'normal' wildfire season in most of the U.S., Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack said Tuesday. The problem, Vilsack said, is that the new normal wildfire season is longer and includes tens of thousands of fires burning millions of acres of forest and destroying thousands of homes."

Quote: "The fire season itself is now on average 78 days longer than it was in 1970. And in the West, for example, there has been a sevenfold increase in fires of 10,000 acres or more."

Investigators tell us a fire started at the back of a Mercedes around 4 a.m. A second fire started in the home a short time later. Firefighters say that fire did cause some damage to an area inside. No one was home at the time."

Note: Sounds very similar to an incident where an SUV burst into flame at 3:30 AM while parked at one home and an exterior dimmer switch burst into flame at the same time at the home next door, in Stuttgart (Arkansas), mentioned in the 2013-02-05 update...

There are an estimated 6,256 federal buildings in those areas, mostly owned by the departments of Agriculture and Interior. The order requires new or expanded buildings in those areas to use a building code designed to protect the buildings and their occupants from fire."

2016-05-19 - Gandaria City Mall rocked by explosion in coastal Jakarta (Indonesia), 13 injured:

Quote: "A gas leak did not cause a blast on Thursday morning at one of the capital's high-end malls, Gandaria City in South Jakarta, that left 13 people injured, the mall's management claims. This is despite reports that one of the mall's security officers noticed the smell of gas before the explosion."

Quote: "She said the installed pipe had not yet dispensed gas into the vacant space where the blast took place."

Note: So there was no natural gas service in the area where the explosion occurred, but they did smell 'rotten egg' odor. Well, hydrogen sulfide smells like rotten eggs, at least at low concentrations, and this city is right on the coast. If it was ALL hydrogen sulfide then they'd be dead, but it could've been hydrogen sulfide mixed with methane, which is how it comes out of the ocean, just like the 'foul odor' from a 'naturally occurring methane release' in Santa Monica Bay that hit coastal Santa Monica in 2013, mentioned in the 2013-03-03 update. Obviously that wasn't just methane that the ocean belched up, because methane is odorless...

2016-05-20 - Update on EgyptAir crash - plane caught fire before it crashed into the Mediterranean Sea:

Quote: "The aircraft disappeared from radar at 2.29am. 'There was a fire on board,' aviation expert Tim van Beveren told the German broadcaster Deutsche Welle. 'The system sent very clear messages. There was a lavatory smoke detected. A minute later, avionics compartment smoke detected...Two minutes later, the flight control units are failing.'"

Note: This is the 50th aircraft to smoke/burn/explode in 2016. That's probably a huge undercount though. A lot of small planes have crashed and burned and then they find the burning plane and some corpses. Some of those planes were probably on fire BEFORE they crashed, and that's why they crashed in the first place, but when you show up and all that's there is the smoldering wreckage of a plane on the ground, it's impossible to tell whether it was on fire before impact, especially when there are no survivors to discuss what happened...
