2016-05-09 - Hypoxic and anoxic areas spreading in the oceans since at least as far back as 2002, killing ocean life:
http://psmag.com/news/suffocating-the-ocean
http://johnmuir.ucdavis.edu/suffocating-the-ocean

Quote: "It was crabbers who first reported something amiss. In 2002, they began pulling in traps full of corpses. (Crabs should be alive when you catch them.) And they mentioned something else: Little octopuses had followed their crab lines to the surface, as if fleeing inhospitable conditions below. Then heaps of dead crustaceans began washing ashore along a stretch of Oregon’s coast."

Quote: "Every year since, those hypoxic waters have appeared in late summer and early autumn. In 2006, they became anoxic, meaning they lost all their oxygen. 'You didn’t see a single fish in a day,' says Jack Barth, a professor at Oregon State University, 'just the piles of crab carcasses and worms that had come out of the bottom, sort of wafting in the current.' When scientists examined the roughly 50-year record of oxygen measurements from the region, they couldn’t find a single comparable event in the past. The hypoxia, it seemed, was unprecedented. And then it spread."

Quote: "These suffocated patches of ocean aren’t just bad for fishermen and their catch; they represent a change in the ocean that has, at times in Earth’s past, heralded mass extinction."

Quote: "Almost anywhere anyone has looked in recent years — including the Atlantic Ocean — those deep, naturally low-oxygen waters have pushed upwards, in some places by an average of three feet per year."

Quote: "Deep in the ocean live anaerobic microbes that emit the poisonous gas hydrogen sulfide as a byproduct. Lee Kump, head of the Department of Geosciences at Pennsylvania State University, thinks that, as the low-oxygen waters expanded in the End Permian ocean, these microbes surfaced. The gas they spewed may have poisoned the atmosphere and torn holes in the ozone layer. A die-off that began in the ocean spread to land. Over 90 percent of marine species, including trilobites, went extinct, as did 70 percent of terrestrial species."

Note: The oxygen-free zones spreading upward - that's the chemocline rising to the surface. When the chemocline reaches the surface, accumulated methane and hydrogen sulfide are released into the atmosphere, which is why so many coastal cities have been hit by 'foul odors' and 'rotten egg' odors in recent times. Some people have been blaming Fukushima for the mass ocean deaths, but the spreading dead zones and oceanic die-offs preceded Fukushima by close to a decade, at least, and it's been getting steadily worse since then. This is how human civilization comes to an end, at least on the surface of the Earth, and the process is well underway and it is unstoppable. Evacuate the surface of the Earth or die - those are the choices...

2016-05-09 - All of a sudden, fish are dying by the MILLIONS all over the planet:
http://theeconomiccollapseblog.com/archives/all-of-a-sudden-fish-are-dying-by-the-millions-all-over-the-planet

Note: It's not really 'all of a sudden'. If one were paying attention, it's been ramping up for some years, as mentioned in the article above and documented by me every day since early 2012. But extinction events like the one currently in progress do accelerate over time and this one is roaring along pretty good now, so more people - even economists! - are noticing the die-offs, which are becoming both larger and increasingly common...

http://www.kitv.com/story/31939540/poisonous-gas-kills-hundreds-of-gees-in-idaho
http://yamkin.wordpress.com/2016/05/11/hundreds-of-snow-geese-found-dead-in-idaho-usa/

Quote: "The Idaho Fish and Game Wildlife Lab and the Washington Animal Disease Diagnostic Lab found traces of phosphine gas in tissue samples from dead birds collected at Mud Lake and Market Lake wildlife management areas."

Note: Huh, so where'd that come from? I wonder if that's a secondary chemical related to hydrogen sulfide breaking down in the atmosphere and combining with some P (phosphorus) somewhere along the way, as phosphine gas is PH3, so it's basically hydrogen sulfide (H2S) with the sulfur replaced with phosphorus and an extra hydrogen atom...

http://www.sott.net/article/318739-Rare-oarfish-found-dead-on-beach-near-Kaikoura-New-Zealand

Note: A huge underwater methane clathrate field started spewing methane off the coast of New Zealand near Gisborne in 2014, mentioned in the 2014-05-13 update. As that methane belches into the ocean, it'll suffocate fish and other deepwater life. At the same time, the ancient anaerobic bacteria and archaea that eat methane and biomatter will start eating that methane and producing hydrogen sulfide, which will poison fish, starting with the deepwater species. Mostly they'll just die and float to the bottom, never seen by human beings, but sometimes they're gonna flee the death rising from the depths and wash up dead nearby...

2016-05-21 - Three dogs killed and eight critically ill after drinking from lake in Dartford (Britain), blamed on blue-green algae:
http://www.kentonline.co.uk/dartford/news/three-dogs-die-after-drinking-96010/

Quote: "A spokesman for the Environment Agency said: 'Until we've analysed the necessary samples, we won't know what has caused these deaths.'"

Note: There may be blue-green algae there, and that can kill dogs or people who drink the water, but maybe that's not what killed them. They won't find any hydrogen sulfide in the dogs even if that's what killed them, since it breaks down so fast in the body, and they didn't do the autopsies fast enough. So, as usual, we'll never know for sure what killed these dogs. Regardless, I certainly wouldn't be spending much time near that lake, that's for sure...
