The seas, lakes and oceans are now pluming deadly hydrogen sulfide and suffocating methane. Hydrogen sulfide is a highly toxic water-soluble heavier-than-air gas and will accumulate in low-lying areas. Methane is slightly more buoyant than normal air and so will be all around, but will tend to contaminate our atmosphere from the top down. These gases are sickening and killing oxygen-using life all around the world, including human life, as our atmosphere is increasingly poisoned. Because both gases are highly flammable and because our entire civilization is built around fire and flammable fuels, this is leading to more fires and explosions. This is an extinction level event and will likely decimate both the biosphere and human population and it is debatable whether humankind can survive this event.

Amid all the hubbub about climate change, Americans don't think much about regular old air pollution these days. The coal smoke that once choked cities such as Pittsburgh now exists only in old photographs, and even famously hazy Los Angeles has much less smog. A long string of laws passed during the past 70 years has strengthened government regulation of air quality. As a result, most types of pollution have decreased significantly, especially coarse particulate matter, sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides. And Americans’ health has improved in a variety of ways as a result.
But at least one type of dangerous pollution remains fairly common -- the fine particulate matter known as PM2.5. These particles, which are less than 4% as wide as a human hair, can include a huge variety of organic chemicals, bits of metal, leftover products from combustion and so on. Concentrations of these particles, which come from vehicles, power plants, fires and various natural events, have gone down by only about 25% since regulations were tightened in 1990:

A Chinese doctor had to think on his feet when a passenger on his flight suffered a medical emergency.
Zhang Hong, a surgeon from the First Affiliated Hospital of Jinan University in Guangzhou, saved an elderly man’s life by sucking urine from the traveler’s blocked bladder during a medical emergency, South China Morning Post reported Thursday, citing local sources.
The doctor, who was flying from Guangzhou to New York on China Southern Airlines Flight 399, was still six hours away from his destination when he sprung into action.
The ill passenger was sweating and had a swollen belly, Zhang said. The man’s family had also informed cabin crew that the traveler was previously diagnosed with an enlarged prostate, which Zhang suspected was causing a blockage, according to China News.
“He was going into shock and may have suffered a risk to his life if we didn’t tend to him urgently,” the doctor was quoted saying.
Meanwhile, Zhang and another physician on board — Xiao Zhanxiang from Hainan Provincial People’s Hospital in Haikou — reportedly fashioned a makeshift catheter out of plastic tubing from an oxygen mask, straws from milk cartons, tape, and a syringe from the aircraft’s medical kit.
However, the needle on the device was too small to drain the urine. After experiencing difficulties in easing the pressure on the passenger’s bladder, Zhang stepped up to suck out the urine himself.
The doctor then spent 37 minutes draining approximately 800 milliliters of urine from the man’s blocked bladder, China’s The Paper reported.
Footage of the life-saving act also showed Zhang spitting into an empty wine bottle as he siphoned the urine using his mouth.

A cargo ship that capsized off the Georgia coast could remain in the sea for the next year.
That’s the long-range outlook of Coast Guard Cmdr. Matt Baer, a member of the Unified Command tasked with removing the ship that capsized in September.
Baer says the Golden Ray has been slowly sinking in the sand because of the powerful tides. He said the situation makes it impossible to get the ship upright without breaking it apart and creating an even bigger problem.
“It’s going to be a while. We want to do this right,” he said.

An accused bank robber's lawyer and privacy advocates say police overstepped when they requested the use of personal geographical data to track him down and make their arrest.
The 24-year-old man allegedly robbed a bank at gunpoint in May and made off with nearly $200,000.
To solve the case, police requested the location data of everyone in a 150-meter radius of the bank within an hour of the robbery. Google complied.
As police narrowed down the suspect, they asked for more specific information, until they finally arrested their primary suspect.
Police used a relatively new and highly controversial tactic known as a "geofence warrant."
In an interview with Insider, ACLU staff attorney Nathan Wessler worried these blanket geographic searches by police lack accountability and could violate the Fourth Amendment.
