Event Update For 2018-09-18

http://jumpingjackflashhypothesis.blogspot.com/2012/02/jumping-jack-flash-hypothesis-its-gas.html

The seas, lakes and oceans are now pluming deadly hydrogen sulfide and suffocating methane. Hydrogen sulfide is a highly toxic water-soluble heavier-than-air gas and will accumulate in low-lying areas. Methane is slightly more buoyant than normal air and so will be all around, but will tend to contaminate our atmosphere from the top down. These gases are sickening and killing oxygen-using life all around the world, including human life, as our atmosphere is increasingly poisoned. Because both gases are highly flammable and because our entire civilization is built around fire and flammable fuels, this is leading to more fires and explosions. This is an extinction level event and will likely decimate both the biosphere and human population and it is debatable whether humankind can survive this event.

A. More fires and more explosions, especially along the coasts, but everywhere generally.
B. Many more animal die-offs, of all kinds, and especially oceanic species.
C. More multiples of people will be found dead in their homes, as if they'd dropped dead.
D. More corpses found in low-lying areas, all over the world.
E. More unusual vehicular accidents.
F. Improved unemployment numbers as people die off.

2018-09-18 - Unknown rotten egg odor evacuates school in Clark (New Jersey):
http://www.tapinto.net/towns/clark/articles/clark-fire-department-responds-to-call-about-natural-gas-odor-at-kumpf-school

Quote: "There was a tense hour at Carl H. Kumpf Middle School on Tuesday morning as students and staff were made to evacuate the building after a call to emergency responders about a heavy odor of natural gas in the building according to Clark Fire Chief Frank Cerasa. Three engines from the CFD arrived on the scene at approximately 10:20 a.m. and immediately cleared approximately 500 people from the building.  Cerasa described what happened next. 'Members of the BOE's maintenance staff, firefighters and Elizabethtown Gas personnel checked the entire building with no readings or cause of the original odor.'"

Note: No readings because they were using natural gas detectors and not hydrogen sulfide detectors...

Quote: "Hog lagoons are basically huge bodies of pig poop. The waste is treated with bacteria that turns it pink."

Note: That's interesting - learn something new everyday! With a little digging I found out what that bacteria is and it's what I immediately suspected it was - purple sulfur bacteria, which eat hydrogen sulfide and only exist in bodies of water (or giant poop lagoons apparently) where hydrogen sulfide is present. Last year a lagoon turned pink at a nature preserve and all the fish died, in southern Gambia, mentioned in the 2017-07-10 update. Purple sulfur bacteria turned the water pink at a bird refuge on the coast in Santa Barbara in late September 2015 too, mentioned in the 2015-09-22 update. Several rivers around the world have mysteriously turned pink or reddish in recent years too, and a few bodies of water - rivers and lakes - have even ignited. Once the oceans start turning pink, our days on this planet will be just about over, and the oceans are getting warmer and more landfill-like every year now, so that's just a matter of time. First we should start seeing random areas getting hit by unknown rotten egg odors and monstrous record-breaking fires beginning to sweep the planet though. Oh right, both of those things are already happening...

  1. Hey Jonny, Fran, Mike, Tom N., LL and all other readers of JJFH.

I had to laugh, though it isn't funny (see what I mean, Fran?), about the invisible Uber driver above - where the car drives away after the driver (having the requisite 'medical issue' they never explain in detail) got out . ..

I picture these headlines and imagine being in their frame of reference. Gyad. Death is whimsical in selection and method.

    [some applied statistics]
"The four-day accumulation of nearly 36 inches, which was measured in Elizabethtown, North Carolina, is far, far above the previous rain record for a hurricane anywhere on the East Coast. It broke the North Carolina record by nearly a foot. That much rain is more than what scientists estimate a 1,000-year level, 60-day rainstorm would drop in the region, given a stable climate: slightly more than 35 inches. Put another way, there’s a 0.1 percent chance every year that in a 60-day period the rainfall in Elizabethtown would be at least 35 inches. North Carolina took on all of that water in just four days." [more]

  2. With enough ‘cue for 25,000 meals a day, nonprofit feeds a recovering Wilmington
    https://www.newsobserver.com/news/local/article218685525.html

    WILMINGTON
“How many meals you want?” Marvis Steele asked a small line of residents from Wilmington’s Creekwood South public housing community. “We have some really good turkey.”

Steele, a Salvation Army volunteer, was standing in the hot sun Wednesday, handing out Styrofoam containers of barbecue. Residents, many of which were taking the food back to family members, said the area was still without power, and it was unclear when they might get it back.

The Salvation Army, Steele said, had already handed out nearly 300 lunches at Creekwood South. The community has been without power since Hurricane Florence made landfall near Wilmington.

“We are prepared to do 25,000 meals a day,” said Marc Mangano, a member of the nonprofit who came down from New Jersey. “We have done 12,000 meals” just for lunch. [more; hey, sump'm nice fer a change]

  3. Well, this doesn't look good - Vavilov Ice Cap heading into the sea at 82 feet per day (as of 2015) compared to the normal average rate of 2 inches per day:

    https://phys.org/news/2018-09-unprecedented-ice-loss-russian-cap.html

So the ice was moving to the sea 492 times faster than it used to by 2015. It's surely faster than that by now, especially with the surge of warmth in the Arctic region in the last three years. Rapid destabilization of the Arctic is in progress.

On Hurricane Maria anniversary, Puerto Rico is still in ruins – “I am thankful for the little they gave me, but thanks for nothing”
    http://www.desdemonadespair.net/2018/09/on-hurricane-maria-anniversary-puerto.html

Times journalists visited 163 homes in two neighborhoods in Punta Santiago to cover what progress had been made in the last 12 months.

They found a community with signs of fresh paint and, in some of the middle-class parts of town, rebuilt rooms and new furniture.

But in neighborhoods where residents live on meager pensions and disability checks, there were gutted kitchens and electrical wires running randomly along unfinished walls. Roofs were covered with plywood or plastic, many near collapse. Some houses still had no running water. A number of families lived in single rooms in unfurnished houses, sleeping on the floor.

Leomida Uniel, 82, the walls of her house stained in black mold that gave her a lung infection, was sitting on her porch, sobbing. Gilberto Díaz and his wife, María Carrión, were bathing and washing dishes with the aid of a neighbor’s hose stuck through a window. Roberto Albino had an inch of water inside his house.

[In one fishing town of 5000] Almost 650 houses flooded with water from the sea; others were inundated by an overflowing lake, a river, and two ponds — and also raw sewage. Many homes lost walls and roofs in winds that reached 155 miles per hour when the storm made landfall. [more; see chart of "payout" and stats]

New landslide kills 21, buries houses in Philippines – “The ground in the area is still vibrating”
    http://www.desdemonadespair.net/2018/09/new-landslide-kills-21-buries-houses-in.html

A massive landslide buried dozens of homes near a central Philippine mountain Thursday, killing at least 15 people and sending rescuers scrambling to find survivors after some sent text messages pleading for help.

The slide surged down on about 30 houses in two rural villages after daybreak in Naga city in Cebu province, Roderick Gonzales, the city police chief, told The Associated Press by telephone as he helped supervise the search and rescue. Seven injured villagers were rescued from the huge mound of earth and debris.

Some victims still managed to send text messages after the landslide hit, Gonzales said, adding elderly women and a child were among the dead.

Naga city Mayor Kristine Vanessa Chiong said by telephone that at least 64 people remained missing. [more]

German police halt forest eviction after journalist falls to his death

Authorities in western Germany say they’re suspending the eviction of protesters from a threatened forest after a journalist fell to his death.

Police said Wednesday the young man plunged at least 15 meters (50 feet) from a rope bridge strung between two treehouses in Hambach forest in what appeared to be a “tragic accident.”

The government of North Rhine-Westphalia state later announced it was halting work to clear the forest, which is to make way for a coal mine. [more]

Why growth can’t be green: New data proves you can support capitalism or the environment, but it’s hard to do both
    http://www.desdemonadespair.net/2018/09/why-growth-cant-be-green-new-data.html

Warnings about ecological breakdown have become ubiquitous. Over the past few years, major newspapers, including the Guardian and the New York Times, have carried alarming stories on soil depletion, deforestation, and the collapse of fish stocks and insect populations. These crises are being driven by global economic growth, and its accompanying consumption, which is destroying the Earth’s biosphere and blowing past key planetary boundaries that scientists say must be respected to avoid triggering collapse. https://finance.yahoo.com/news/general-electric-power-chief-identifies-issue-gas-turbine-124738652--sector.html

General Electric Co said on Thursday that four of its new flagship power turbines in the United States have been shut down due to an "oxidation issue" and warned it expects the problem to affect more of the 51 units it has shipped, sending shares lower.

The giant machines form the beating heart of billon-dollar electricity plants around the world. Analysts consider GE's success with the new turbines, known as the HA class, critical to rescuing its power division from a steep decline in sales and profits. [more]

Invasive mosquitoes are 'spreading like wildfire' across California
    https://www.sott.net/article/396389-Invasive-mosquitoes-are-spreading-like-wildfire-across-California

Invasive mosquitoes of the Aedes genus - Aedes aegyptai and Aedes albopictus, which thrive throughout tropical regions - are moving farther and farther north into California, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Why are health officials getting involved? Because Aedes aegyptai is the primary spreader of awful diseases: dengue, Zika, yellow fever, and chikungunya. Together, dengue and yellow fever kill some 50,000 people a year.

For decades, researchers have predicted that as mosquitoes move north we will see more disease. And it's not just mosquitoes. Grist's Zoya Teirstein detailed the (horrific, swarming) spread of ticks that are making people allergic to meat. [more]
