Event Update For 2017-02-17

The seas, lakes and oceans are now pluming deadly hydrogen sulfide and suffocating methane. Hydrogen sulfide is a highly toxic water-soluble heavier-than-air gas and will accumulate in low-lying areas. Methane is slightly more buoyant than normal air and so will be all around, but will tend to contaminate our atmosphere from the top down. These gases are sickening and killing oxygen-using life all around the world, including human life, as our atmosphere is increasingly poisoned. Because both gases are highly flammable and because our entire civilization is built around fire and flammable fuels, this is leading to more fires and explosions. This is an extinction level event and will likely decimate both the biosphere and human population and it is debatable whether humankind can survive this event.

A. More fires and more explosions, especially along the coasts, but everywhere generally.
B. Many more animal die-offs, of all kinds, and especially oceanic species.
C. More multiples of people will be found dead in their homes, as if they'd dropped dead.
D. More corpses found in low-lying areas, all over the world.
E. More unusual vehicular accidents.
F. Improved unemployment numbers as people die off.

The Sheerness crew of the all-weather RNLI lifeboat the George and Ivy Swanson first thought they were racing to a boat on fire in a busy shipping lane of the Thames Estuary. I have never heard of a buoy catching light before and can only assume it was caused by an electrical problem which is also strange because the light buoys are solar powered.' http://abc7.com/weather/fatality-confirmed-in-submerged-car-in-victorville/1760857/

Quote: "A powerful Pacific storm blew into Southern and Central California on Friday with wind-driven heavy rains that downed power lines and electrocuted a man, killed a motorist in a submerged car and disrupted hundreds of flights at airports. With the storm feeding on an atmospheric river of moisture stretching far out into the Pacific, precautionary evacuations of homes in some neighborhoods were requested due to the potential for mudslides and debris flows. More than 300 arriving and departing flights were delayed or canceled at Los Angeles International Airport. In the Sherman Oaks area of Los Angeles, a falling tree downed power lines and hit a car. A 55-year-old man was electrocuted and pronounced dead at a hospital, police and fire officials said. Winds gusting to 60 mph or more lashed the area. Heavy rains turned creeks and rivers into brown torrents and released slews of mud from hillsides burned barren by wildfires."

Quote: "Homes have been badly damaged, roads closed and thousands lost power as a terrifying 'mini-tornado' barrelled through pockets of the Central Coast late yesterday. One Fountaindale family will be "starting from scratch" after a massive tree crashed through the middle of their house about 5pm in scenes reminiscent of the January 2016 super storm which turned the area's tornado alley into a wasteland. Wyong and Gosford State Emergency Service crews had about 100 call-outs overnight as fallen trees and heavy rain caused roof damage in a devastating dinnertime burst of thunder and lightning when 23mm of rain fell between 5pm and 9pm. More than 30,000 homes lost power in at least a dozen suburbs across the Coast, from Pearl Beach up to Tuggerah, where the roof collapsed at a police call centre late yesterday."

  1. Now wait just a damn minute he' - you mean a te me a solar powered BUOY burst into flame out in a big river? If'n I hadn't heard of JJFH, i'd have been surprised, but still - that's incredible! Good catch, Jonny - one for the weird pile.

It's been a while since a garbage truck flamed out.

Lotta brush fires on this day.

So, after the last band wrapped it up and left (along with the sound board guy, a dj came on - just a friend of the bar owner - who played (really interesting club music that got ya up and dancin') from 1 til 3 a.m. We stayed as long as we could, leaving regretfully at 1:30. This place is the only private club that stays open this late with live music, so all the other bar tenders and staff of the many other establishments in town come here (after their places close) to unwind.

CBH Borden receival site turns into lake
    https://thewest.com.au/countryman/news/cbh-borden-receival-site-turns-into-lake-ng-b88386579z

CBH faces a big damage bill and long delays to shipments at one of the most crucial moments of the season after the record rains.
The co-operative confirmed a flood at its receival site in Borden, where grain was being held after being collected by local growers after harvest.
Social media posts showed torrents of water gushing through the bins and lapping the edges of temporary grain holding pens.
Because of the record harvest, large amounts of grain are being held in emergency overflow bins at sites around the Wheatbelt.
[Vic's observation: There goes a portion of Western Australia’s record wheat harvest. Hey, it’s only food.]

Introducing the terrifying mathematics of the Anthropocene
    https://www.greenleft.org.au/content/introducing-terrifying-mathematics-anthropocene

[first: there are too many humans on the planet]

Here are some surprising facts about humans’ effect on planet Earth. We have made enough concrete to create an exact replica of Earth 2mm thick. We have produced enough plastic to wrap Earth in clingfilm. We are creating "technofossils”, a new term for congealed human-made materials — plastics and concretes — that will be around for tens of millions of years.
But it is the scale that humans have altered Earth’s life support system that is the most concerning.
In 2000, Nobel laureate Paul Crutzen and Eugene Stoermer proposed that human impact on the atmosphere, the oceans, the land and ice sheets had reached such a scale that it had pushed Earth into a new epoch. They called it the Anthropocene and argued the current Holocene epoch was over. [more; it's that same DEq paper I cited a few days back]
