Event Update For 2020-11-20

http://jumpingjackflashhypothesis.blogspot.com/2012/02/jumping-jack-flash-hypothesis-its-gas.html

The seas, lakes and oceans are now pluming deadly hydrogen sulfide and suffocating methane. Hydrogen sulfide is a highly toxic water-soluble heavier-than-air gas and will accumulate in low-lying areas. Methane is slightly more buoyant than normal air and so will be all around, but will tend to contaminate our atmosphere from the top down. These gases are sickening and killing oxygen-using life all around the world, including human life, as our atmosphere is increasingly poisoned. Because both gases are highly flammable and because our entire civilization is built around fire and flammable fuels, this is leading to more fires and explosions. This is an extinction level event and will likely decimate both the biosphere and human population and it is debatable whether humankind can survive this event.

A. More fires and more explosions, especially along the coasts, but everywhere generally.
B. Many more animal die-offs, of all kinds, and especially oceanic species.
C. More multiples of people will be found dead in their homes, as if they'd dropped dead.
D. More corpses found in low-lying areas, all over the world.
E. More unusual vehicular accidents.
F. Improved unemployment numbers as people die off.

2020-11-20 - Home destroyed by methane explosion in Signal Hill (California):
http://lbpost.com/news/explosion-signal-hill-house-gas-leak

Quote: "While investigators think it’s a methane leak, no one has confirmed that or determined a possible source of the gas, he said. His team is waiting for it to be safe to conduct an investigation at the home, but it’s not clear how long it will take for the methane to dissipate, especially if they don’t know where it’s coming from."

Note: This is the 105th residential explosion in 2020...

2020-11-20 - Record high levels of CO2 and methane measured in the atmosphere over Norway for the 19th year in a row:

Quote: "When it comes to methane, the annual average was measured to 1961,2 parts per billion (ppb) at Birkenes, and 1952,9 ppb at Zeppelin. Compared to 2018-levels, this represents an increase at Zeppelin of 14,3 ppb, the highest annual increase ever registered."

2020-11-20 - US West Coast residents struggle with psychological burden of repeated evacuations as wildfire seasons worsen:
http://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/west-coast-residents-struggle-psychological-burden-repeated-evacuations-wildfire-seasons-n1248451

Quote: "The year has seen record-breaking natural disasters, with storms that have battered the Atlantic and blazes that have scorched the West Coast. Scientists have tied the ever-worsening weather events to climate change, with warnings that the catastrophes will worsen without serious action to reduce the burning of coal, oil and gas."

Note: The catastrophes will worsen no matter what we do. There's a huge lag time before what we do shows up in the climate. The catastrophes we're seeing now are because of what we did decades ago, so the catastrophes will continue to worsen for at LEAST decades more into the future, even if we were to suddenly stop emitting any greenhouse gases. There's nothing we can do at this point to prevent the ongoing extinction event from wiping us off the face of the planet. At best we could slow things down somewhat, but we're not even making much of an effort to do that. Just as the people living at the end of the Roman Empire had no idea that they were living at the end of the Roman Empire, the people living on this planet right now have no idea that they're living at the end of human civilization. Earth's been providing plenty of clues, but apparently they haven't been forceful enough yet to jolt people out of their collective slumber. No need to worry about that though. Earth will get a WHOLE LOT more forceful with clues that this is the end as time goes on...

When injected as a vaccine to a non-pregnant woman, this Beta HCG sub unit combined with tetanus toxoid develops antibodies against tetanus and HCG so that if a woman’s egg becomes fertilized, her own natural HCG will be destroyed rendering her permanently infertile. In this situation tetanus vaccination has been used as a birth control method. [more]

Prof Susan Krumdieck: 'Sustainability is wishful thinking'

'Sustainability is wishful thinking': get ready for the energy downshift
    https://robinwestenra.blogspot.com/2020/11/prof-susan-krumdieck-sustainability-is.html

The problem with “sustainability” is its implication that economic growth can still continue on blithely in a world of zero carbon and a green energy transition. But expect a rude shock.

She spins around a 1981 edition of National Geographic to read the headline. “Special report: Facing up to the problems, getting down to the solutions.” Then chuckles again.

Her point is that we have known how an exponential rise in the consumption of fossil fuels was going to end ever since she began her career as a young researcher at the University of Colorado.

And now we have way overshot the mark. Any action is going to have to be drastic. Talk of “sustainability” no longer cuts it.

That has become a feelgood weasel word, says Krumdieck. What does it say to the public except economic growth can be continued under a new carbon-friendly regime?

We will simply switch out the fossil fuels – the coal, oil and gas – and replace them with clean and green renewables.

More hydro. More wind, solar, geothermal and biodiesel. Then the completely new technologies exciting folk, like hydrogen fuel cells.

Anyway, from an engineering perspective, the sustainability strategy looks to amount to a straight swap of what sits under the hood of the economy. Green power to replace fossil fuel power.

Do that pit stop, throw in some energy efficiency measures, and get motoring again.

Krumdieck shakes her head. Sadly, this is her area, and she has crunched the numbers. It’s not going to work, she says.

Renewables can’t deliver in this way so energy abundance is about to become energy poverty. And we need to get ready.[more]

Dutch authorities have culled another 190,000 chickens after a highly contagious strain of bird flu broke out at least two poultry farms bringing total to almost 500,000 this month: On Friday 1 million chickens were culled in Japan as disease spreads
    http://www.thebigwobble.org/2020/11/dutch-authorities-have-culled-another.html

Dutch authorities have culled some 190,000 chickens after a highly contagious strain of bird flu broke out at least two poultry farms, the agriculture ministry said Sunday. Health workers slaughtered around 100,000 hens at a poultry farm at Hekendorp outside Gouda while 90,000 chicks were culled at Witmarsum, in northern Friesland.

In both cases "a highly contagious strain of the H5 variant" was suspected, the ministry said in a statement. There were no other poultry farms within a one-kilometre radius of the outbreaks, it added."Both farms were cleared to prevent further spread of the disease," the ministry said. [more]

  3. 'Choked, Strangled, Drowned': Report lays out severity of plastic harming endangered marine life
    https://www.yahoo.com/news/choked-strangled-drowned-report-lays-173913671.html

When Charles Innis, lead veterinarian at the New England Aquarium, cut into a 400-pound leatherback sea turtle that washed up dead on Sandy Neck in November 2015, he was looking for the cause of its demise, signs of disease or parasites.

What the necropsy team encountered was a 3-foot-square sheet of plastic lodged in the animal's stomach.

The turtle had experienced the worst that mankind could dish out. Deformities and X-rays revealed extensive fractures of the shell and vertebrae from a collision with a vessel. Heavy abrasions and lacerations around the front flippers indicated it had been entangled in fishing gear, the likely cause of death.

The plastic, which when floating in the water resembles the jellyfish that are the leatherback’s favorite food, would have killed it by blocking its intestine, Innis concluded. [more]

American Airlines Flight Makes Emergency Landing After Bird Reportedly Strikes Cockpit Window
    https://www.yahoo.com/entertainment/american-airlines-flight-makes-emergency-025153096.html

An American Airlines plane was forced to make an emergency landing after the cockpit window began to crack.

CBS Chicago reports the incident occurred at around 1:30 p.m. CST, shortly after American Eagle Flight 3408 had departed from Chicago. The airline said the plane, which was bound for Cleveland, had "experienced a mechanical issue with the windscreen" during takeoff and was immediately forced to turn back to O'Hare International Airport, where emergency personnel was waiting.

Sources told TMZ that the "mechanical issue" was seemingly caused by a bird that made contact with the windshield. And judging by the photos, the impact was severe. [more]

China Is Set to Eclipse America as World’s Biggest Oil Refiner
    https://www.yahoo.com/finance/news/china-set-eclipse-america-world-230000003.html

Earlier this month, Royal Dutch Shell Plc pulled the plug on its Convent refinery in Louisiana. Unlike many oil refineries shut in recent years, Convent was far from obsolete: it’s fairly big by U.S. standards and sophisticated enough to turn a wide range of crude oils into high-value fuels. Yet Shell, the world’s third-biggest oil major, wanted to radically reduce refining capacity and couldn’t find a buyer.

As Convent’s 700 workers found out they were out of a job, their counterparts on the other side of Pacific were firing up a new unit at Rongsheng Petrochemical’s giant Zhejiang complex in northeast China. It’s just one of at least four projects underway in the country, totaling 1.2 million barrels a day of crude-processing capacity, equivalent to the U.K.’s entire fleet. The dramatic video shows the man jumping into waist-deep pond water after the alligator dragged the dog underwater. The man submerges his whole arm to bring the small dog to the surface, with the small alligator still latched on.

The dog yelps as the man struggles to free it from the gator's grasp, loudly grunting from the strain. After about 12 seconds, the man succeeds in freeing his pet, and it scampers ashore. [more]

Gati rapidly strengthens before making landfall over Somalia

Tropical activity is ramping up across the northern Indian Ocean with the development of Gati in the Arabian Sea. More development may be on the horizon as a disturbance continues to organize in the Bay of Bengal.

The first system to form in the basin this week was Gati. This system first developed into an area of low pressure on Thursday, according to India's Meteorological Department (IMD). By early Sunday morning, local time, the system strengthened into a depression. Just a few hours later, the system became a deep depression and then strengthened even further into Cyclonic Storm Gati. Development of this system exploded on Sunday and around 12 hours after first becoming a depression, Gati was a severe cyclonic storm. [more]

Unemployment: Stay-At-Home Order Starts Tonight With No Stimulus In Sight
    https://www.yahoo.com/entertainment/unemployment-stay-home-order-starts-165459772.html

Heading into Thanksgiving weekend, things have never looked gloomier for Southern California.

A state and local stay-at-home order goes into effect late tonight, but exempts film and TV production workers. Still, many of those people are still without employment, dating from the spring shutdowns, and the already struggling ancillary businesses that support them are about to be damaged even more by another round of restrictions.

The bad news is enhanced unemployment benefits and other programs established with the CARES Act in March are going to expire by the end of the year. A study released this week says 12 million people will lose their federal and state unemployment Dec. 26. [more]
