Quote: "According to a spokesperson with the Administration and Operations division of the Norfolk Airport Authority, the plane landed around 8:05 a.m. due to a passenger who was experiencing a medical event. The passenger was taken to a local hospital for treatment. Shortly thereafter, two other passengers complained of unrelated symptoms and were also taken to the hospital."

Quote: "According to Steve Sterling, the media contact for the Norfolk Airport Authority, the plane was flying from Newark, New Jersey to the Dominican Republic when a passenger fell ill while in the air, which prompted the emergency landing around 8 a.m. The passenger was taken to a local hospital. JetBlue assigned the different aircraft to take the remaining passengers to the Dominican Republic, but while the passengers were waiting, two more fell ill. Both were taken to a local hospital too. The illnesses of the passengers do not appear to be connected, according to Sterling."

Note: Somehow three people sickening on the same plane just doesn't seem like an unrelated coincidence to me...

2018-10-02 - Rotten egg odor, likely hydrogen sulfide, hits cities along broad swath of the coast in California as well as a school in coastal Torrance (California):
http://www.ocregister.com/2018/10/03/residents-near-the-pacific-ocean-report-strange-gas-type-odor/
http://www.ocregister.com/2018/10/03/what-we-know-about-the-coastal-rotten-egg-smell-and-what-it-means-for-your-health/
http://www.dailybreeze.com/2018/10/02/strange-smell-at-torrance-school-leads-to-shelter-in-place-order/
http://www.latimes.com/socal/daily-pilot/news/tn-dpt-me-coastal-odor-20181003-story.html

Quote: "Hundreds of Orange County residents and others, many from the beach cities, reported smelling a natural gas or methane-type odor in the air this week. The reports came mainly from Huntington Beach and Seal Beach, South Coast Air Quality Management District officials said on Tuesday, Oct. 3. But they were also from Costa Mesa, Sunset Beach, Fountain Valley and Garden Grove, and up the coast as well, from San Pedro, Wilmington, Carson and Los Angeles. According to district officials, they had received more than 400 complaints about the smell. The source of the odor was unclear."

Quote: "A similar odor impacted Torrance on Tuesday morning, Oct. 2, prompting a school to be put on lockdown. Torrance firefighters told school staffers that the smell was from a natural phenomenon of gas released from the ocean floor that drifts inland, Assistant Principal James Ashikawa said."

Quote: "Since the odors typically occur near the coast while winds are blowing from the ocean toward land, the primary source or sources are thought to be offshore. The Huntington Beach Fire Department wrote on its Facebook page that the source was a naturally occurring 'methane plume' from the ocean. But methane in its natural state has no odor and is not among chief culprits being considered by AQMD."

Quote: "Torrance firefighters arrived at the school and told staff members the odor was a natural phenomenon of gas released from the ocean floor passing through the area, Ashikawa said in the email. That phenomenon is an underwater methane pocket just off the Redondo Beach breakwall that occasionally releases gas, officials say, which then drifts inland."

Quote: "It’s most likely hydrogen sulfide, which has a pungent sulfur odor and is added to natural gas and other odorless toxins to help quickly identify potentially dangerous leaks. But it is also found in oil fields and other petroleum operations, and can arise from rotting organic matter such as seaweed, algae blooms and dead fish."

Quote: "'At higher concentrations, (hydrogen sulfide) can create a health hazard,' Avol said. There is no indication that the compound is at those concentration levels."

Note: Those ocean floor gas releases spew methane AND hydrogen sulfide, not just methane. The 'gas odor' at the school was thus hydrogen sulfide, though there may have been some methane present too, but nobody would smell that, since methane is odorless. Also, they don't add hydrogen sulfide to natural gas, they add methyl mercaptan, which has the same rotten egg odor and is made with hydrogen sulfide. (Methyl mercaptan is also similarly poisonous.) So a huge area of the coast in California just got hit by hydrogen sulfide. I don't doubt that they're measuring it in low concentrations, so far. But the problem is the nature of the gas. Being a heavier than air gas, it tends to flow into low-lying areas and then it will concentrate, and low concentrations then become higher concentrations. It may be fine where they have a meter but a mile away in a valley it could concentrate enough to knock a person dead. So if you're walking around or driving around on the coast in California and you blunder into an invisible cloud of hydrogen sulfide that has concentrated in a low-lying area or blown up out of a low-lying area after concentrating, that may be the last thing you ever do...

2018-10-02 - Unknown rotten egg odor evacuates school in Ennis (Ireland), 2 miles from the coast:
http://www.breakingnews.ie/ireland/700-pupils-and-staff-evacuated-from-clare-school-amid-gas-leak-fear-872992.html

Quote: "Gardaí closed New Road to traffic while fire crews carried out an investigation of the area. Using gas detectors, firefighters took readings but found no evidence of gas."

Quote: "One theory is that the pungent odour may have come from a passing lorry. A smell lingered in the air for a time but was later confirmed not to be gas."

Note: So it smelled like natural gas - e.g. a rotten egg odor - but it wasn't natural gas. There are not a lot of things that that could be. And I certainly wouldn't use the complete lack of evidence that a truck had anything to do with this to jump to the conclusion that a truck had something to do with this...

Quote: "Rose Garcia and her daughter were returning to their home after dropping off Garcia's grandchildren at school when they noticed the unusual and disturbing sight -- a woman engulfed in flames, standing inside the burning garage."

Quote: "Garcia said the image was haunting, but the woman’s words were equally as disturbing. 'We were, like, shocked and she kept saying, "The demons need to get out,"' she said. Paramedics rushed the woman to a hospital for treatment. Early on, fire investigators said they had no information on her at all, although neighbors say she told them she is 37 years old. Investigators also were not able to determine the cause of the fire right away."

Quote: "Officials detected low levels of sewer gas inside the building. The gas can make people nauseated, but does not require treatment or hospitalization, Edgar said."

Note: Well, unless it's at 1 part per thousand or greater in concentration in which case you won't need treatment, but you will need a coffin. 'Sewer gas' is the colloquial name for hydrogen sulfide. Sometimes that term is used for methane as well, but since methane is odorless and they smelled the gas here, that means it was hydrogen sulfide...

2018-10-03 - Person found on fire near gas station in Portland (Oregon):

2018-10-04 - Hundreds of methane craters found at the bottom of the Barents Sea, caused by events similar to the recent exploding methane craters in Siberia:
http://sciencenordic.com/giant-gas-craters-discovered-bottom-barents-sea
http://strangesounds.org/2018/10/are-we-going-to-be-swallowed-by-huge-sinkholes-huge-methane-craters-fissuring-the-barents-sea-formed-like-the-recent-exploding-methane-craters-in-siberia.html
http://robinwestenra.blogspot.com/2018/10/giant-methane-craters-discovered-south.html

Quote: "Now, scientists at the Centre for Arctic Gas Hydrates, Environment and Climate (CAGE) at UiT - The Arctic University of Norway, have collected new geophysical data on the craters in the area. But instead of finding just a few craters, researchers found hundreds of them. They range in size from 300 to 1000 metres in diameter. And they have been blown out of solid bedrock. The craters are what remain after a methane gas explosion. Or more correctly: gas blow-outs."

Quote: "The researchers in Tromsø expect further blow-outs, as some gas chambers have not yet blown, and others are slowly building up pressure again."

Quote: "Andreassen thinks there will be more large blow-outs in the ocean floor south of Svalbard, as the seabed becomes warmer and gas-hydrate reservoirs thaw."

Quote: "Andreassen says there is probably even more methane gas locked in the seabed around Greenland and in the Arctic Ocean than is found in the Barents Sea. That could lead to some extremely large craters."

Quote: "Researchers have now examined satellite images of northern Siberian from a few years back and looked at the area where the explosions occurred. They found that the year before the huge crater appeared, there were large pingos in the same place. Pingos are found in the arctic and are usually raised hills, like a giant pimple, with a core of ice. In this case, however, the pingos must have been filled with gas in the form of ice, bound up with water in gas hydrates and permafrost. Russian scientists have now mapped 7,000 gas-filled pingos that are poking through the thawing permafrost, visible in satellite images that illustrate how the pingos form and grow, published in The Siberian Times."

2018-10-05 - As the oceans warm, the Gulf of St. Lawrence losing oxygen:
http://www.thechronicleherald.ca/opinion/russell-wangersky-warming-ocean-temperatures-could-lead-to-a-big-kill-247356/

Quote: "Preventing an extra single degree of heat could make a life-or-death difference in the next few decades for multitudes of people and ecosystems on this fast-warming planet, an international panel of scientists reported Sunday. But they provide little hope the world will rise to the challenge."

Note: Preventing that much warming is impossible. Even if every power plant and car were scrapped and every single human being blew their brains out, today, the methane now spewing from the permafrost and the seas in the Arctic would cause waaaay more than that much warming through unstoppable feedbacks that are already in progress and escalating rapidly. So their hearts are in the right place - and I presume they also don't wanna die - but realistically, logically, they're seeking a goal that's not possible. The best we can do is slow down our extinction, and even then not by much, and that's assuming we were even seriously making the effort to slow our demise, and we are, if anything, working to HASTEN our extermination. Pursuing the recommended goals would help postpone - not avoid - human extinction, but hey, the more postponing we can do the better if you're one of those wanna-stay-alive types...

http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x6v6g4p

Quote: "A foul smell has engulfed many localities of the port city since Tuesday night. Many on social media were confused and wondered where the smell originated from. World Wide Fund (WWF) Pakistan adviser Mohammad Moazzam Khan said that the stench emanates from the rotting of phytoplankton plant that washes ashore at the end of the monsoon season."

Note: Anaerobic breakdown of biomatter - dead stuff like plankton or algae or fish or seaweed, sewage and sh#t, etc - creates hydrogen sulfide, so that's what they were smelling. The same thing is happening in the Caribbean now as massive quantities of Sargassum seaweed inundate beaches and rot, and the same thing is happening along the coasts of Florida as dead fish and red tide rot. It's just the smell of death and decay spreading across the dying planet, no big deal!

2018-10-09 - Ice melting on Earth at an accelerating rate, rate has tripled in 10 years in Antarctica, trillions of tons of ice gone since 1992:
http://truthout.org/articles/earths-ice-loss-is-a-nuclear-explosion-of-geologic-change/

Quote: "Much of the frozen water portion of the Earth, otherwise known as the cryosphere, is melting. This is not news: It’s been happening for decades. What is news is that the long-term melting trends in the Arctic, Antarctica, and with most land-based glaciers are accelerating, often at shocking rates, largely due to human-caused climate change."

Quote: "Antarctica is melting three times as fast as it was just 10 years ago, alarming scientists. A study earlier this year showed 3 trillion tons of ice had disappeared since 1992. That is the equivalent of enough water to cover the entire state of Texas with 13 feet of water, and raise global sea levels a third of an inch."

http://www.desdemonadespair.net/2018/10/hyperalarming-study-shows-massive-loss.html
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F1W9Q2pijAY

Quote: "In 2014, an international team of biologists estimated that, in the past 35 years, the abundance of invertebrates such as beetles and bees had decreased by 45 percent. In places where long-term insect data are available, mainly in Europe, insect numbers are plummeting. A study last year showed a 76 percent decrease in flying insects in the past few decades in German nature preserves. The latest report, published Monday in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, shows that this startling loss of insect abundance extends to the Americas. The study's authors implicate climate change in the loss of tropical invertebrates. 'This study in PNAS is a real wake-up call - a clarion call - that the phenomenon could be much, much bigger, and across many more ecosystems,' said David Wagner, an expert in invertebrate conservation at the University of Connecticut who was not involved with this research. He added: 'This is one of the most disturbing articles I have ever read.'"

Quote: "The study authors also trapped anole lizards, which eat arthropods, in the rain forest. They compared these numbers with counts from the 1970s. Anole biomass dropped by more than 30 percent. Some anole species have altogether disappeared from the interior forest. Insect-eating frogs and birds plummeted, too. Another research team used mist nets to capture birds in 1990, and again in 2005. Captures fell by about 50 percent. Garcia and Lister analyzed the data with an eye on the insectivores. The ruddy quail dove, which eats fruits and seeds, had no population change. A brilliant green bird called the Puerto Rican tody, which eats bugs almost exclusively, diminished by 90 percent. The food web appears to have been obliterated from the bottom."

Note: Lots of unknown 'rotten egg' odor events around the world, and the number of such events has been escalating. There's nothing else that that could be but hydrogen sulfide, now blowing around randomly in the atmosphere and pervading the environment. Hydrogen sulfide is a neurotoxin and so are bug sprays. Bugs are also low in mass, so it doesn't take much poison to kill them off. So they're getting poisoned out of existence, and the stuff that eats bugs is then dying off too, from starvation, and probably somewhat by poisoning as well. This same thing happened in the Permian-Triassic extinction event - that was one of the very few extinction events where even insects took a significant hit. Since the current ongoing extinction event is a repeat of the Permian-Triassic extinction event, it would actually be a little strange if insects WEREN'T taking a hit, but obviously they are.

Also, notice that it's not just bees dying off, nor just insects dying off in agricultural areas, but all insects, everywhere that we have looked. That means that 'whatever' is affecting insects is something that hits all areas of the planet. That's the atmosphere. The insects may be taking some damage from the higher UV levels from the whitening Sun too, but that wouldn't (yet) be enough to cause widespread insect die-off like we're seeing. So I am quite sure that the spread of unexplained 'rotten egg' odor incidents - concurrent with the seemingly rapid escalation in the die-off of insects - is at least the primary underlying cause of this planetary insect decline. This will probably continue to mystify scientists for a while though, because hydrogen sulfide doesn't stick around long - it kills stuff then blows onward or gets reacted away, leaving behind just dead bodies, insect, human or otherwise.

This sort of seems like an introductory scene in an end-of-the-world novel, where scientists start realizing the world is coming to an end when they start noticing the insects disappear. Except it's not a novel and our actual scientists probably aren't that smart, but it is indeed a sign - ANOTHER sign - of the end of the world.

http://www.desdemonadespair.net/2018/10/trump-says-climate-change-not-hoax-but.html

Note: He's sorta right! The planet will recover just like it did after the Permian-Triassic extinction event. Of course, that will take millions of years, and the human race will be exterminated first, soon, along with most species currently existing on the planet. So yeah, things will 'change back', and the planet will recover, eventually. Minus humanity and most stuff currently alive. If he means the planet will 'change back' and humanity will continue to be able to exist on the surface of this planet, well, no, THAT is certainly not going to happen...

http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/news/uk-world-news/deadly-fumes-killed-scottish-dad-13460288

Quote: "Mr Hancock ruled out the possibility the fire was caused by a gas leak, after one of Mr Cutherbertson’s children had suggested that the house smelled out gas in the lead up to the blaze. Mr Hancock said: “Had there been a gas leak in the premises I’d expect to see an explosion more than a fire. 'Also you would’ve expected any fire to then burn back to the exposed pipework. That wasn’t the case.'"

Quote: "A fire investigator told the inquest copper pipes on a radiator had melted, meaning the temperature inside the farmhouse during the blaze would have exceeded 1,085 degrees."

Note: So there was a rotten egg odor, but it wasn't from natural gas, and the fire burned extremely hot. Hydrogen sulfide smells like rotten eggs, it burns very hot, and since it wouldn't have come from pipework that would explain why the fire didn't burn back to exposed pipework. The smoke from hydrogen sulfide-related fires may also be extremely lethal, which would explain why nobody survived this fire. This is most likely to happen near coasts, like the area where this home was located, and in the wee hours, like this fire...
