Event Update For 2016-02-17

The seas, lakes and oceans are now pluming deadly hydrogen sulfide and suffocating methane. Hydrogen sulfide is a highly toxic water-soluble heavier-than-air gas and will accumulate in low-lying areas. Methane is slightly more buoyant than normal air and so will be all around, but will tend to contaminate our atmosphere from the top down. These gases are sickening and killing oxygen-using life all around the world, including human life, as our atmosphere is increasingly poisoned. Because both gases are highly flammable and because our entire civilization is built around fire and flammable fuels, this is leading to more fires and explosions. This is an extinction level event and will likely decimate both the biosphere and human population and it is debatable whether humankind can survive this event.

A. More fires and more explosions, especially along the coasts, but everywhere generally.
B. Many more animal die-offs, of all kinds, and especially oceanic species.
C. More multiples of people will be found dead in their homes, as if they'd dropped dead.
D. More corpses found in low-lying areas, all over the world.
E. More unusual vehicular accidents.
F. Improved unemployment numbers as people die off.

Quote: "The January figures are in, and Earth's string of hottest-months-on-record has now reached nine in a row. But NASA said January stood out: The temperature was above normal by the highest margin of any month on record."

Note: Looks like most of the heat is in the far north, where methane is belching from the seas. That's a feeback loop kicking into gear there. As the methane is released, the temps rise. As the temps rise, more methane is released. Now that the methane clathrates have started to give up the ghost off the US East and West Coasts and off the coast of New Zealand and various other places too, this feedback loop will intensify and spread. Other consequences of such vast amounts of methane spewing into the atmosphere: 1) the destruction of the oxidizing capacity of the atmosphere, resulting in an increasingly white Sun (as opposed to the yellow Sun many of us remember) and rising - and eventually lethal - levels of UV hitting the planet; and 2) more water entering the atmosphere as methane reacts away hydroxyl radicals and ozone, causing more high-precip events, which results in more incidents involving heavy rain and flooding and large amounts of snowfall, which we're already seeing...

Quote: "Researchers say it could reveal the 'last evidence' of our civilizations for future societies."

  2. How about some deja vu?! Tractor trailer goes up in flames in the wee hours on I-84 in Tolland (Connecticut):

That same thing happened just a few days ago, mentioned in the 2016-02-14 update. Things is gettin' crazy! What happens when vehicles are igniting faster than they can be extinguished and cleared from the road? Well, I guess traffic comes to a stop then, permanently. Maybe most of us will be dead by then though, so maybe the traffic won't be so bad. Extinction - cuts down on traffic and lines. Hah, there's a positive side to everything if you just look hard enough!

  3. Good points, Jonny!
i was wondering what people are thinking, regarding business as usual, when all around us things are rapidly becoming overwhelming in multiple ways, for example: planetary heating, methane release, Arctic (actually POLAR - since it's both) ice melt, sea level change (rise AND fall), atmospheric contamination, weather related cataclysms, volcanic and earthquake occurrences, diseases (especially novel ones) spreading throughout the biosphere exponentially, infrastructure collapse, drought and flooding leading to famine, and on and on.
