Event Update For 2016-11-05

The seas, lakes and oceans are now pluming deadly hydrogen sulfide and suffocating methane. Hydrogen sulfide is a highly toxic water-soluble heavier-than-air gas and will accumulate in low-lying areas. Methane is slightly more buoyant than normal air and so will be all around, but will tend to contaminate our atmosphere from the top down. These gases are sickening and killing oxygen-using life all around the world, including human life, as our atmosphere is increasingly poisoned. Because both gases are highly flammable and because our entire civilization is built around fire and flammable fuels, this is leading to more fires and explosions. This is an extinction level event and will likely decimate both the biosphere and human population and it is debatable whether humankind can survive this event.

A. More fires and more explosions, especially along the coasts, but everywhere generally.
B. Many more animal die-offs, of all kinds, and especially oceanic species.
C. More multiples of people will be found dead in their homes, as if they'd dropped dead.
D. More corpses found in low-lying areas, all over the world.
E. More unusual vehicular accidents.
F. Improved unemployment numbers as people die off.

Can Clean Energy Boost Global GDP?
The short answer is no, because the energy return from renewables is too low. In fact, the energy return of fossil fuels, which underpin renewables, is also now too low. That is the actual primary cause of the world's economic ills. Further, the term "sustainable growth" used here is an absurdity. There's a Growing Ozone Crisis Flying Under the Radar—and It Could Be Disastrous for Life on Earth

[Gail at Wit's End blog has been all over this for years now]

  3. The ozone - what if that's one of the methods 'the authorities' are using to mitigate the hydrogen sulfide problem? Ozone does react away hydrogen sulfide; that's one of the things they use at landfills to get rid of hydrogen sulfide.

So, if the Earth is spraying us with hydrogen sulfide, which it is, then one way to fight that problem off is by spraying us with ozone. Granted, the ozone has a bad effect on life too, but not remotely as bad as the amount of hydrogen sulfide it reacts away.

So, is the ozone a problem or a TREATMENT for an even bigger problem? Would eliminating the ozone allow even more hydrogen sulfide to splatter around the environment? I'm sure it would. And that'd mean a lot more plants would die and a lot more animals and people would start falling over dead or puking blood or foaming at the mouth or bursting into flame and so on.

Soooo...not really seeing the ozone as a problem in the same way that she is. Obviously it's not good. But I think it likely that it's at least somewhat mitigating a much worse problem. The enemy of my enemy and all that.

  4. Good point, Jonny, but unfortunately the ozone has been a slow killer of root systems of trees and other shrubs, that's been taking it's toll for decades now. Maybe it all balances out after we're gone.

  5. Gettin' some rain out there, Jonny?

We could use some around here.

I'm voting for state people tomorrow and I may pencil in your name for Prez, but I refuse to vote for the business as usual wall street war-monger or the new Mussolini wanna-be.

After it's over, there will be more problems and drama for who knows how long. I'm sure the same failed economic, foreign and environmental policies will continue, until they can't and we get the mother of all collapses.

Here's to as long as we have, Jonny! Thanks again for being here, especially at this time.

  6. Been pretty dry around here too, now that you mention it. Could go for one more dry day though, have a dry election. I'm mainly gonna go vote for stuff other than the presidential election - Senate and House and some education-related amendments and stuff.

To as long as we have!
