Event Update For 2019-12-06

http://jumpingjackflashhypothesis.blogspot.com/2012/02/jumping-jack-flash-hypothesis-its-gas.html

The seas, lakes and oceans are now pluming deadly hydrogen sulfide and suffocating methane. Hydrogen sulfide is a highly toxic water-soluble heavier-than-air gas and will accumulate in low-lying areas. Methane is slightly more buoyant than normal air and so will be all around, but will tend to contaminate our atmosphere from the top down. These gases are sickening and killing oxygen-using life all around the world, including human life, as our atmosphere is increasingly poisoned. Because both gases are highly flammable and because our entire civilization is built around fire and flammable fuels, this is leading to more fires and explosions. This is an extinction level event and will likely decimate both the biosphere and human population and it is debatable whether humankind can survive this event.

A. More fires and more explosions, especially along the coasts, but everywhere generally.
B. Many more animal die-offs, of all kinds, and especially oceanic species.
C. More multiples of people will be found dead in their homes, as if they'd dropped dead.
D. More corpses found in low-lying areas, all over the world.
E. More unusual vehicular accidents.
F. Improved unemployment numbers as people die off.

2019-12-06 - Home may have exploded due to methane outgassing from the ground in the Town of Alleghany (New York):
http://www.wivb.com/news/ground-gas-definitely-a-possibility-in-allegany-house-explosion/

Quote: "More than two weeks after a house exploded in the heart of oil and gas well country, the public health director for Cattaraugus County said Friday that it could have been caused by methane gas seeping through the ground."

Quote: "Sources tell News 4 that investigators have ruled out any of the home’s heating sources or electricity being the cause. The focus is now on whether ground-gas was the cause."

Quote: "The residents of the home that exploded smelled in their water what may have been methane in the weeks leading up to the blast and that’s a product of natural gas."

Note: They definitely did not smell methane, since methane is odorless. They may have smelled hydrogen sulfide, since methane and hydrogen sulfide often go together. That doesn't mean there was no methane present - there could have been a great deal of it. That's just not what they smelled...

http://www.cbc.ca/news/world/australia-wildfires-orange-skies-1.5388088

Quote: "Sydney may be blanketed in smoke for weeks, if not months, RFS Commissioner Shane Fitzsimmons said."

Quote: "Australia exports a greater portion of the world’s coal market than Saudi Arabia does to oil."

Quote: "Morrison has called climate protests 'indulgent and selfish,' and argued that the government should outlaw some forms of climate protest."

Note: So Australia made a trade - make some money with coal in the present and in return Australia gets turned into a charred uninhabitable wasteland in the future. Lots of countries have made the same deal, though not many so wholeheartedly on a per capita basis as Australia. Seems to me that trading a survivable planet in the future for coal profits now was a mighty indulgent and selfish deal to make. And the funny thing about the future is that it does have a habit of turning into the present. Present, meet future!

More than 40 insurance companies sue government over fire that burned into Gatlinburg
    https://wildfiretoday.com/2019/12/07/more-than-40-insurance-companies-sue-government-over-fire-that-burned-into-gatlinburg/

More than 40 insurance companies are suing the federal government for $450 million over how the fire that burned into Gatlinburg, Tennessee in 2016 was handled, the Knox News is reporting.

Five days after it started in Great Smoky Mountains National Park on November 23 the Chimney Tops 2 Fire spread into the eastern Tennessee city killing 14 people, forcing 14,000 to evacuate, destroying or damaging 2,400 structures, and blackening 17,000 acres.

The strategy used to manage the fire was controversial in that very little direct action was taken to suppress the fire during those first five days until a predicted wind event caused it to spread very rapidly out of the park and into the city. California bans insurers from dropping policies in wildfire areas
    https://wildfiretoday.com/2019/12/06/california-bans-insurers-from-dropping-policies-in-wildfire-areas/

The California Department of Insurance is invoking a law passed in 2018 that bans insurance companies from dropping or refusing to renew homeowners policies in zip codes within or adjacent to the perimeters of recent fires. This will apply for one year after the Governor declared a state of emergency in October, 2018 and will affect at least 800,000 homes in wildfire disaster areas in Northern and Southern California. The action by Insurance Commissioner Ricardo Lara is the result of Senate Bill 824 that he authored last year while serving as state senator.

In his announcement about the localized ban, the Commissioner went a step further and called on insurance companies to voluntarily cease all non-renewals related to wildfire risk statewide until December 5, 2020. [more; so stupid]

Fish all gone! Gulf of Alaska fishery to close for the first time ever: No more cod: Salmon all but gone: Millions of small sea birds died since 2015

Extremely low cod numbers have lead feds to close the Gulf of Alaska fishery for the first time ever. In an unprecedented response to historically low numbers of Pacific cod, the federal cod fishery in the Gulf of Alaska is closing for the 2020 season. It’s a decision that came as little surprise, but it’s the first time the fishery was closed due to concerns of low stock. [more]

  2. Australia’s Bushfires Turn New Zealand’s Glaciers Pink
    https://strangesounds.org/2019/12/australia-bushfires-turn-new-zealand-glaciers-pink-pictures.html

For weeks now, Australia has been dealing with severe bushfires.

They’ve engulfed Sydney in smoke, threatening air quality throughout New South Wales and destroying key koala habitat.

The smoke has been clearly visible from space, but it’s also left a mark on the ground, painting New Zealand glaciers a shade of dusty pink.

Yes, tiny particles of ash are turning the snow brownish-pink.
[and we thought yellow snow was the only kind to avoid]

Research shows that dust particles from Amazon forest fires falling on glaciers in the Andes may enhance glacier melting because darkened snow absorbs more sunlight.

And that’s another self-reinforcing feedback. [more]

Why Texas’s fossil fuel support will ‘spell disaster’ for climate crisis
    http://www.fasterthanexpected.com/2019/12/07/why-texass-fossil-fuel-support-will-spell-disaster-for-climate-crisis/

Texas’s Critical Infrastructure Protection Act went into effect on 1 September, stiffening civil and criminal penalties specifically for protesters who interrupt operations or damage oil and gas pipelines and other energy facilities.

The scale of new production is “staggering”, according to an analysis by Global Witness, a campaign group, with Texas leading the way as US output of oil and gas is forecast to rise by 25% over the next decade. This makes it a “looming carbon timebomb”, the group believes, in a period when global oil and gas production needs to drop by 40% to mitigate the worst impacts of the climate crisis. [more]

Faded Texas oil field offers austerity lesson for U.S. shale – “There’s an inflection point coming here because production growth is going to slow down massively”

It’s a grand bargain that the Eagle Ford’s bigger Texas cousin — the Permian Basin — is wrestling with: sacrificing growth for profits.

At current oil prices, “what you cannot do is harvest cash and grow,” said Raoul LeBlanc, a Houston-based analyst at IHS. “There’s an inflection point coming here because production growth is going to slow down massively.”

The implications for U.S. oil production are vast. Shale wells are gushers for the first three months but after that, output plummets so that by the end of the first year it’s down about 60%. That’s 10 times the decline rate of conventional wells.
