Event Update For 2019-08-23

The seas, lakes and oceans are now pluming deadly hydrogen sulfide and suffocating methane. Hydrogen sulfide is a highly toxic water-soluble heavier-than-air gas and will accumulate in low-lying areas. Methane is slightly more buoyant than normal air and so will be all around, but will tend to contaminate our atmosphere from the top down. These gases are sickening and killing oxygen-using life all around the world, including human life, as our atmosphere is increasingly poisoned. Because both gases are highly flammable and because our entire civilization is built around fire and flammable fuels, this is leading to more fires and explosions. This is an extinction level event and will likely decimate both the biosphere and human population and it is debatable whether humankind can survive this event.

A. More fires and more explosions, especially along the coasts, but everywhere generally.
B. Many more animal die-offs, of all kinds, and especially oceanic species.
C. More multiples of people will be found dead in their homes, as if they'd dropped dead.
D. More corpses found in low-lying areas, all over the world.
E. More unusual vehicular accidents.
F. Improved unemployment numbers as people die off.

  1. Good morning Jonny, Fran, Mike D., Tom N., LL, Terry, FezzedOne, Panther and anyone else reading JJFH this day. Last week of August. Is it me, or is the year zipping by too quickly?

It cooled off around here over the passed couple days, but it's supposed to warm up again, as usually happens when the seasons change - waffling heat/cold cycles, gradually moving toward the next season.

It's strange how things work. Up until the 15th there were only 4 garbage truck fires (well below avg.), but since then we've had 7 trucks burn in 3 consecutive days! This brings the total so far this month to the monthly avg. this year of 11.

Fireflies are dying out because people are destroying their habitats

Researchers and advocates say the insect is on the decline as more and more of its habitats are consumed by development, leaving it fewer marshes and meadows to illuminate.

Its struggle is further compounded by light pollution, pesticides and weed killers.

As the wetlands go, so go the fireflies” said Christopher Heckscher, an entomologist at Delaware State University.[more]

Recombinetics: Flaws overlooked in Gene-edited hornless cattle

Cattle are being genetically engineered using gene-editing tools to not grow horns. But according to newly published research by experts at the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), gene-editing errors in the genome of these cattle are often being overlooked (see abstract below).

The animals were genetically engineered by the biotech company Recombinetics. The company also filed a patent on the genetically engineered cattle. The cattle have for some years been hyped as a positive application of new genetic engineering techniques and a boon for animal welfare, since these GM cattle will not need to be de-horned. However, it appears to have so far gone unnoticed that the gene-editing has resulted in major unintended outcomes.

no matter how "precise" the initial gene-editing event is in terms of location, undesirable outcomes can occur at the intended site stemming from the DNA repair processes that follow the cutting of the DNA by the editing tool. [more]
