Event Update For 2016-10-08

The seas, lakes and oceans are now pluming deadly hydrogen sulfide and suffocating methane. Hydrogen sulfide is a highly toxic water-soluble heavier-than-air gas and will accumulate in low-lying areas. Methane is slightly more buoyant than normal air and so will be all around, but will tend to contaminate our atmosphere from the top down. These gases are sickening and killing oxygen-using life all around the world, including human life, as our atmosphere is increasingly poisoned. Because both gases are highly flammable and because our entire civilization is built around fire and flammable fuels, this is leading to more fires and explosions. This is an extinction level event and will likely decimate both the biosphere and human population and it is debatable whether humankind can survive this event.

A. More fires and more explosions, especially along the coasts, but everywhere generally.
B. Many more animal die-offs, of all kinds, and especially oceanic species.
C. More multiples of people will be found dead in their homes, as if they'd dropped dead.
D. More corpses found in low-lying areas, all over the world.
E. More unusual vehicular accidents.
F. Improved unemployment numbers as people die off.

All of those South Carolina fires broke out as Hurricane Matthew's arms were sweeping ashore from the ocean. There are 5 trillion pounds of flammable methane dissociating off the East Coast. When hurricanes pass that way, their arms may sweep any methane or hydrogen sulfide off the surface of the ocean, push it ashore and ignite fires and/or cause explosions. The same thing happened farther north with Hurricane Sandy in 2012 when its arms swept in off the ocean...

  1. Another comprehensive update, Jonny. Planes, trains and vehicles all having problems operating, often because the operators are either passed out or dead, and others due to equipment malfunction. People dropping dead all over the place and large fires erupt in buildings and surroundings regularly. Guess we better get used to it.

Peak food. Sustainability challenged as many renewable resources max out
The research team discovered not only that 20 resources had a peak-year but also that for 16 of the 20 resources with a peak year, the peak year lay between 1988 and 2008 – a narrow range in the history of mankind. The annual growth rate of 18 of these renewable resources – for example, increase in meat production or fish catch – peaked around 2006.
As noted in the post, conventional oil peaked in 2005–2006, which suggests strongly that net energy also peaked about that time because unconventional oil delivers lower net energy. The more unconventional oil added to the mix, the more overall net energy declines. Food production is affected, just like everything else. There's one essential thing to keep in mind with respect to food: When people get hungry, ugly things start to happen. -- RF

  2. Multiple building collapses in China kill at least 8

Cause of the structural failure is unclear and it isn't known exactly how many people may be buried in the debris.

Four buildings caved in during the early hours on Monday in the Wenzhou region of Zhejiang province, the Lucheng district government said in a social media post.

Eight people were found dead and five rescued by midday, it said, without giving indications of the number of missing.

The official Xinhua news agency said rescuers were still verifying the number of people trapped under the debris. It reported an "initial estimate" that more than 20 people had been buried.

The cause of the collapse is under investigation. [more]

  5. Yeah, I remember when planes were grounded after 9/11 - the temps spiked a couple of degrees almost immediately. And things are a whole lot worse now than they were then. If we don't shut down industrial civilization, we're doomed. If we do shut down industrial civilization then we're doomed even faster. Either way, the human race is going to be checking out of Hotel Earth.
