Event Update For 2016-07-12

The seas, lakes and oceans are now pluming deadly hydrogen sulfide and suffocating methane. Hydrogen sulfide is a highly toxic water-soluble heavier-than-air gas and will accumulate in low-lying areas. Methane is slightly more buoyant than normal air and so will be all around, but will tend to contaminate our atmosphere from the top down. These gases are sickening and killing oxygen-using life all around the world, including human life, as our atmosphere is increasingly poisoned. Because both gases are highly flammable and because our entire civilization is built around fire and flammable fuels, this is leading to more fires and explosions. This is an extinction level event and will likely decimate both the biosphere and human population and it is debatable whether humankind can survive this event.

A. More fires and more explosions, especially along the coasts, but everywhere generally.
B. Many more animal die-offs, of all kinds, and especially oceanic species.
C. More multiples of people will be found dead in their homes, as if they'd dropped dead.
D. More corpses found in low-lying areas, all over the world.
E. More unusual vehicular accidents.
F. Improved unemployment numbers as people die off.

  1. Thanks for the mention and the kind words, Jonny!

Yesterday I got more details from my "coping" wife regarding what else was in the back seat and how the fire started. A co-worker was canned at the corporation in which she works and she cleared out his desk for him, putting all the accumulated stuff into a large FedEx envelope, with the intention of dropping the stuff off at his home. In the bag where, papers, thumb drives, a few lighters and other odds and ends. She tossed the envelope on the floor in the back seat of her car. The envelope caught fire FIRST and that lit the bags on the seat! It's possible that the electronics that move the seat back and forth shorted out, causing a spark, but that's so remote as to be dismissed in my mind. The other leading theory around here (by others) is that someone tossed a lit cigarette butt into her car as she drove by, but that too doesn't make much sense or have anything to back it up. In conclusion, all we can do is add this incident to all the other (worse) ones taking place in PA that day.

    As usual, irony abounds:
It turns out that the woman that fell to her death at Grand Canyon was an executive at the internet company YELP (which i'll bet she did on the way down).

The fire incidents at Burn-aby (so close to burn baby I misread it) Canada also have a touch of irony.

  2. I suspect something in your wife's car, like that FedEx envelope, had come down with a case of 'Oily Rag Syndrome'.

I don't know if you recall the event, but there was a weird fire in a furniture store, in Britain I think, where the seat of a couch caught fire and burned, in the shape of a square. I think someone had set something square on that spot at some point and whatever it was - it was a pizza-box-sized square - THAT had 'Oily Rag Syndrome', and setting it on that couch gave the couch ORS too, but only in that square area. And then that square area burst into flame.

So anything porous and absorptive like that - paper, cardboard, cloth, clothes, probably wood - can come down with 'Oily Rag Syndrome' (ORS) anytime now.

Hah, I can ride the Syndrome Train too!

Massive hole in the sun could lead to disruption of earth's electronics

... a coronal hole ...can disrupt satellite and radio communications on Earth, thanks to the solar winds released by the corona.

These winds can meet the Earth's magnetic field, causing geomagnetic storms which mess with the Earth's magnetic energy.

Geomagnetic storms do, however, carry the risk of causing havoc on Earth. The most powerful geomagnetic solar storm on record, known as the Carrington Event, took place in 1859. It caused flares so bright that "skies all over planet Earth erupted in red, green, and purple auroras so brilliant that newspapers could be read as easily as in daylight," Nasa says.

Telegraph operators reported sparks flying from their equipment. The southern lights were visible as far north as Santiago, Chile, and the northern lights were seen in Cuba, National Geographic reports.

If a storm of its magnitude were to occur in today's technology-dependant society, it could have a devastating impact on the internet, GPS, communications, and the electrical grid.

Power outage disrupts entire New York subway system on anniversary of 1997 two-day blackout

The MTA's Rail Control Center in Manhattan lost power for unspecified reasons, and had to activate a backup system, the Gothamist reported. As a result, trains throughout the subway network had to be dispatched locally, instead of remotely, resulting in cascading delays.
