"If we pursue our present fatal path, you will drive the ignorant to support coups d'état at one moment, and swell the forces of street rioters at the next, and we shall be left exposed to the pitiless fury of irresponsible mobs trying to avenge themselves by looting among the ruins." -- Léon Gambetta

Event Update For 2020-06-30
http://jumpingjackflashhypothesis.blogspot.com/2012/02/jumping-jack-flash-hypothesis-its-gas.html
The seas, lakes and oceans are now pluming deadly hydrogen sulfide and suffocating methane. Hydrogen sulfide is a highly toxic water-soluble heavier-than-air gas and will accumulate in low-lying areas. Methane is slightly more buoyant than normal air and so will be all around, but will tend to contaminate our atmosphere from the top down. These gases are sickening and killing oxygen-using life all around the world, including human life, as our atmosphere is increasingly poisoned. Because both gases are highly flammable and because our entire civilization is built around fire and flammable fuels, this is leading to more fires and explosions. This is an extinction level event and will likely decimate both the biosphere and human population and it is debatable whether humankind can survive this event.
A. More fires and more explosions, especially along the coasts, but everywhere generally.
B. Many more animal die-offs, of all kinds, and especially oceanic species.
C. More multiples of people will be found dead in their homes, as if they'd dropped dead.
D. More corpses found in low-lying areas, all over the world.
E. More unusual vehicular accidents.
F. Improved unemployment numbers as people die off.

Good afternoon Jonny, Fran, Mike D., Tom N., Terry, LL, FezzedOne and Panther. Warming up around here in s/e PA with a 90 degree week looming ahead. We'll see what the humidity is.
ReplyDeleteWhile i was gone, the piece of paper with all my stats got "inadvertently" disposed of, so i'm not going to bother any longer about it. The interesting garbage truck fire was on June 19th with 5 in one place! It was also an UP month for the count, but i no longer have the specifics (and have too much else to do, to go back and research any or all of it - especially with the unreliable feed from Hull, U.K.).

Weather forecast for Northern Siberia

Arctic fires worsen and threaten world famous park set up to recreate flora of woolly mammoth era
http://robinwestenra.blogspot.com/2020/07/the-arctic-fires-worsen.html
A major fire is burning right now outside the Arctic town of Chersky, around Mount Rodinka, loved by the locals for weekend trips. The fire started around 10 days ago, threatening a major power line that feeds the remote town.
'A very strange' July was forecast for Yakutia by Russian weather specialists. Average temperature will stay for at least seven, ten degrees C above the norm, with rains not coming until around 20 July.
The end of the month will 'cool down' to about +20C, while the first 20 days of July might be as hot as +30C - and dry.[more]
Wildfires in Siberia increase five-fold amid unprecedented heatwave
https://watchers.news/2020/07/01/wildfires-in-siberia-increase-five-fold-amid-unprecedented-heatwave/
Wildfires in Siberia have grown five-fold over the past week amid an unprecedented heatwave, according to Russia's forest fire aerial protection service. This came after the town of Verkhoyansk hit 38 °C (100.4 °F), marking the hottest-ever temperature recorded above the Arctic Circle. The record was verified by Russia's state weather authority on June 30. [more]

Here we go again: A mystery is unfolding in Botswana: More than 350 elephant carcasses have been found in the Okavango Delta since the start of May and no one knows why the animals are dying
http://www.thebigwobble.org/2020/07/here-we-go-again-mystery-is-unfolding.html
An unprecedented number of dead elephant deaths have been seen in Botswana in recent months. More than 350 elephant carcasses have been found in the Okavango Delta since the start of May and no one knows why the animals are dying, with lab results on samples still weeks away, according to the government.
The way the animals appear to be dying - many dropping on their faces - and sightings of other elephants walking in circles point to something potentially attacking their neurological systems, Dr McCann said. Either way, without knowing the source [the remainder of the sentence wonders whether "it" can crossover to humans)]

Emergency services in Santa Catarina responded to hundreds of calls for assistance during the storm. Over 1 million people were left without electricity after winds downed power lines.
Fatalities were reported in Tijucas (3), Chapecó; Santo Amaro da Imperatriz; Governor Celso Ramos; Islet; Itaiópolis and Rio dos Cedros. One person was reported missing in Brusque. Although full details are yet to be confirmed, it appears most of the deaths were a result of wind damage.
According to the Civil Defence in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, 1,119 people and 921 homes were affected by rain and strong winds across the country. Damage was reported in Iraí, Cacique Doble, Barracão, Vacaria and Capão Bonito do Sul. Over 500 people were evacuated in Vacaria and 400 in Capão Bonito do Sul.
One fatality was also reported in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, where heavy rain in Nova Prata is thought to have triggered a landslide that buried a construction worker.
In Paraná, the cyclone affected 3,127 people in 30 cities, damaging over 600 houses and forcing at least 81 people to temporarily leave their homes. Thousands were left without electricity. [more; and 2nd article on this below]

This year's cold and wet spring sinks US wheat acreage to its lowest levels since USDA records began in 1919 - Corn and potatoes down too

Following a disastrous 2019 growing season across the U.S., particularly in the Midwest, the cold and wet spring of 2020 along with "burnt" farmers has resulted in reduced planting of this year's crops, too.
ND corn acreage this spring is pegged at 2.4 million, 31.5% lower than the 3.5 million planted in 2019, according to the USDA acreage report released Tues, June 30-a report based on surveys of farmers during the first two weeks of June.
Total U.S. wheat acreage this year is estimated at just 44.3 million — the lowest amount of acres planted since USDA began keeping records in 1919, the June 30 report said. [more]

Flood destroys vast cropland in Bangladesh
https://www.sott.net/article/437387-Flood-destroys-vast-cropland-in-Bangladesh
The five northern districts that emerged as worst hit by the floods already had crops on 13,642 hectares almost completely destroyed, reported New Age correspondent in Lalmonirhat.
'Crops cultivated on 6,658 hectares by the country's poorest farmers got completely destroyed,' Mustafizur Rahman Prodhan, deputy director, Department of Agricultural Extension, Kurigram, told New Age.
The floods destroyed Aman seedbed on 6,212 hectares of land, nearly a fourth of the areas Aman seeds were grown in the five flood-hit northern districts — Kurigram, Nilphamari, Lalmonirhat, Gaibandha and Rangpur.
The widespread destruction of the seedbed is reminiscent of last year's losses caused to Aman rice cultivation in the district.
Last year, farmers faced a huge aman seed shortage after floods ruined seedbeds in the districts. The DAE could not fulfill its aman acreage target, with 1,00,000 hectares land staying unused because of the seed crisis.
The other crops hit by the floods included nuts, sesame, jute, maize, aush and maize.
Over 50,000 people were marooned in the district as the Jamuna flowed 50 cm above the danger level at Elashin. [more; video]
