Event Update For 2020-04-18

http://jumpingjackflashhypothesis.blogspot.com/2012/02/jumping-jack-flash-hypothesis-its-gas.html

The seas, lakes and oceans are now pluming deadly hydrogen sulfide and suffocating methane. Hydrogen sulfide is a highly toxic water-soluble heavier-than-air gas and will accumulate in low-lying areas. Methane is slightly more buoyant than normal air and so will be all around, but will tend to contaminate our atmosphere from the top down. These gases are sickening and killing oxygen-using life all around the world, including human life, as our atmosphere is increasingly poisoned. Because both gases are highly flammable and because our entire civilization is built around fire and flammable fuels, this is leading to more fires and explosions. This is an extinction level event and will likely decimate both the biosphere and human population and it is debatable whether humankind can survive this event.

A. More fires and more explosions, especially along the coasts, but everywhere generally.
B. Many more animal die-offs, of all kinds, and especially oceanic species.
C. More multiples of people will be found dead in their homes, as if they'd dropped dead.
D. More corpses found in low-lying areas, all over the world.
E. More unusual vehicular accidents.
F. Improved unemployment numbers as people die off.

  1. The start of another week on our way to oblivion.

Good morning to you Jonny and to all your blog's readers, among them: Fran, Mike D., Tom N., LL, Terry, FezzedOne and Panther.

We've never experienced a pandemic before and modern people can't handle it, because over time we've become so "busy."
We find it almost impossible to sit quietly in a room (or out in nature) and just BE. We've all but forgotten that life is only RIGHT NOW.

Planning for a future that won't be there when we arrive is one of the biggest factors of our faulty perspective. It seems that we've become blind, unthinking creatures akin to robots that carry out duties as long as they can before suddenly failing for some reason. We've been deluded into believing that this modern way of life is all there is.

This virus is clearly illustrating that it doesn't work that way in reality. Our 'system' used to be resilient, with multiple ways of sustaining us. Over time it's been changed (to increase profit) so that redundancy is missing and, like mono-cropping in our agriculture, a weakness developed whereby if that one place that manufactures stuff gets taken out or delayed, it affects the entire system instead of the system being able to ramp up in other areas to counteract any such problem.

When a pandemic hits (from historical data) there is need for localization and self-sustaining actions. From Le Show yesterday, we may start changing this 'system' back to locally producing and manufacturing of necessities rather than importing everything from afar, if we ever recover from this.

Remember, if we DO happen to come out of it with survivors, the NEXT and even more dire problem of our polluted habitat and the environmental dilemma we're in will come roaring back into focus.

Killed By The Coronavirus Lockdowns: 1000s Of U.S. Businesses That Were Shut Down Will Be Closed Permanently
    http://theeconomiccollapseblog.com/archives/killed-by-the-coronavirus-lockdowns-1000s-of-u-s-businesses-that-were-shut-down-will-be-closed-permanently

This economic downturn is turning out to be far deeper and far more severe than most experts were originally anticipating. More than 22 million Americans have filed claims for unemployment benefits, and economists are telling us that the U.S. economy is contracting at the fastest rate that we have seen since the Second World War. We are already starting to see some high profile companies move toward bankruptcy, but the real story is what is happening to thousands upon thousands of small and mid-size businesses because of the lockdowns. Many of them were barely surviving even before this pandemic, and now these lockdowns have delivered a death blow.

The restaurant industry is a perfect example. Prior to the pandemic, there were more than a million restaurants in the United States, and about half of them were independent. Those independent restaurants employed approximately 11 million workers, and now the vast majority of those workers have been laid off.

Once the lockdowns are over, it would be wonderful if all of those independent restaurants would spring back to life, but the results of a recent survey suggest that simply is not going to happen. In fact, that survey found that 28 percent of all independent restaurants are probably not going to survive if the lockdowns last for another month…[more]

Fear Explodes Across Europe as Thousands of Birds Drop Dead From the Sky
    https://strangesounds.org/2020/04/birds-fall-dead-from-sky-europe-video.html

200 ducks in Denmark, hundreds of herons in Turkey, thousands of swallows and swifts in Greece, 1000 starlings in Rome…

Birds literally fall dead from the sky, and nobody knows why.
[JJFH is the Occam's Razor explanation]

Scientists believe high winds over the last three days have killed or gravely injured thousands of swallows and swifts, migrating from Africa to Europe. [more; like birds have never encountered high wind events before; further down the author offers disease as an explanation, but these are all different types of birds so that isn't it]

Hundreds of dead juvenile seals have washed up on shores in Cape Breton and near Halifax in recent days.
    https://strangesounds.org/2020/04/hundreds-dead-seals-nova-scotia-canada-video.html

[so sea-life and birds dying off at the same time must be due to something affecting them both: like radiation, pollution, and/or poison in the atmosphere AND the water - like H2S and CH4; of course there are probably more factors like red tide and lack of food due to habitat loss, but a large number of species dying AT THE SAME TIME means it was more likely a single vector, like H2S which can instantly kill in the air or the water]

The Fatal Road To 4 Degrees Celsius
    http://arctic-news.blogspot.com/2020/04/the-fatal-road-to-4-degrees-celsius.html [Andrew Glikson]

    The fatal road to +4°Celsius

Extreme GHG and T°C rise rates exceed climate tipping thresholds

Global CO₂ rise and warming rates have reached a large factor to an order of magnitude higher than those of the past geological and mass extinction events, with major implications for the shift in climate zones and the nature and speed of current extreme weather events. Given the abrupt change in state of the atmosphere-ocean-cryosphere-land system, accelerating since the mid-20áµ—Ê° century, the terms climate change and global warming no longer reflect the nature of the climate extremes consequent on this shift.

It can be expected that such extreme rates of change will be manifest in real time by observed shifts in state of global and regional climates and the intensity and frequency of extreme weather events, including the following observations:

A shift in climate zones (Fig. 7) including expansion of the tropics and migration of moderate mediterranean-type climate zones toward the poles , estimated at a rate of 56-111 km per decade (Thurton 2017), signifying a fundamental shift in state of the Earth’s climate regime.

A high rate of ice melt and development of cool ocean pools south of Greenland and around Antarctica (Fig. 8a) developing into cool ocean regions and stadial climate conditions (Fig. 8b).

Reduced temperature differences between the polar zones and mid-latitudes and thereby weakening of the polar boundaries and the polar jet stream boundary.

Weakening of the North Atlantic Thermal Circulation.

Changes in the southern ocean Antarctic oscillation and the Antarctic vortex.

The rapid increase in extreme weather events, including droughts, heat waves, fires, cyclones and storms.

Added below is a video with an August 6, 2019, interview of Andrew Glikson by Guy McPherson and Kevin Hester, as edited by Tim Bob. [more; ~ 34 min.]

CS Lewis articulated our current predicament perfectly:

"Of all the tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under robber barons than under the omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber barons cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end, for they do so with the approval of their own conscience."

  6. Dow drops 500 points amid coronavirus concerns & oil price collapse
    https://www.sott.net/article/432881-Dow-drops-500-points-amid-coronavirus-concerns-oil-price-collapse

[literally throwing money down a black hole]

US stocks dropped sharply to start the week on Monday as investors are focused on coronavirus news along with plunging crude prices. The Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 500 points at the opening bell on Wall Street.

Stocks are headed lower as the price of US crude benchmark West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crashed below $11, the weakest level since December 1998. Oil is selling off as the May crude contract is set to expire, and suppliers are running out of places to store it. WTI rebounded slightly, but was trading down more than 34 percent as of 13:52 GMT, at $12 per barrel.

Despite the historic OPEC+ deal to cut global crude production by almost 10 percent, concerns are growing that oil storage facilities are still at risk of overflowing as the worldwide coronavirus lockdown has crippled demand. Investors are particularly worried about storage reaching capacity in Cushing, Oklahoma, a major US hub. The remaining 21 million barrels of storage at Cushing will likely be filled up in May, causing "panic" in the oil markets, Bjornar Tonhaugen, head of oil markets at Rystad Energy, told CNN. [more]

According to Joseph Amato, president and CIO of Equities at investment firm Neuberger Berman, the expectation is a deep recession in the first half of 2020, followed by a recovery later in the year "that still leaves US GDP down six percent, Europe's down eight percent, Japan's down three percent and China's up just two percent." Meteorologists are calling the heat “ridiculous,” “brutal” and “a cruel joke.”

"We have not emerged out of this," said Mr Philippe, although he added that progress was being made and that the situation is "gradually improving, slowly but surely". He said advances were in a large part due to the confinement rules which were in the vast amount of cases being respected;

    A reopening of schools will start from May 11 but will not involve all schools at the same time. The openings could possibly be staggered "by territory" or "part of the class", dependent on the local situation. Various scenarios are being studied;

Remote / home working must be maintained after May 11 "as much as possible" [more; at least they're testing]

  11. So everyone at the facility I work at was tested last week, no positive results, self included. There are 3 facilities in Grove, the one in the news I do not work at but I do know a few of the positive employees there. They are reporting no symptoms, but one of their nurses was just hospitalized due to her symptoms. It's crazy a co worker reported being spit on while putting gas in her car for wearing scrubs, people are jacked!
I'm starting to hope atlas is real.
