Event Update For 2020-04-03

http://jumpingjackflashhypothesis.blogspot.com/2012/02/jumping-jack-flash-hypothesis-its-gas.html

The seas, lakes and oceans are now pluming deadly hydrogen sulfide and suffocating methane. Hydrogen sulfide is a highly toxic water-soluble heavier-than-air gas and will accumulate in low-lying areas. Methane is slightly more buoyant than normal air and so will be all around, but will tend to contaminate our atmosphere from the top down. These gases are sickening and killing oxygen-using life all around the world, including human life, as our atmosphere is increasingly poisoned. Because both gases are highly flammable and because our entire civilization is built around fire and flammable fuels, this is leading to more fires and explosions. This is an extinction level event and will likely decimate both the biosphere and human population and it is debatable whether humankind can survive this event.

A. More fires and more explosions, especially along the coasts, but everywhere generally.
B. Many more animal die-offs, of all kinds, and especially oceanic species.
C. More multiples of people will be found dead in their homes, as if they'd dropped dead.
D. More corpses found in low-lying areas, all over the world.
E. More unusual vehicular accidents.
F. Improved unemployment numbers as people die off.

Moving down to third place is the fire that destroyed 1400 cars in a waterfront parking garage in coastal Liverpool (Britain) on New Years Eve in 2017, mentioned in the 2017-12-31 update. West Virginia Bank FAILS - Coronavirus
    http://robinwestenra.blogspot.com/2020/04/a-bank-failure-in-us.html

A small bank in West Virginia has become the first institution to fail during the coronavirus crisis.
[OH, well that's different than the implied 'bank went bust BECAUSE OF the virus!' headline]

The bank had been experiencing difficulties since 2015 and its 2019 capital levels were too low, the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. announced Friday. [there you go]

The First State Bank of Barboursville, with $152 million in total assets, was closed Friday by the West Virginia Division of Financial Institutions.

The bank's $139.5 million in deposits will be acquired by MVB Bank Inc. of Fairmont, W. Va. The four branches of The First State Bank were set to reopen as branches of MVB Bank on Saturday, the FDIC said.

Outside New York City, 941 have died in the rest of the state.

    NYPD
6,698 uniformed members of the New York City Police Department (NYPD) are on sick report which accounts for 18.5% of the Department's uniformed workforce.

1,775 uniformed members and 260 civilian members tested positive for the coronavirus.

    FDNY
Approximately one out of every four FDNY EMS members called out sick on Friday, just as coronavirus has led to an all-time high in 911 calls that have flooded the system.

Of the more than 4,000 EMTs and paramedics who are part of the FDNY, 24 percent called out sick, according to the department.

There were 17 percent of firefighters also out on sick leave, the department said, with the combined number of EMS members and firefighters out sick around 3,000. [more]

Bill Gates Reveals the real reason behind the lock-downs
Did Bill Gates Just Reveal The Real Reason Behind The Lock-Downs?
    http://robinwestenra.blogspot.com/2020/04/bill-gates-reveals-real-reason-behind.html

On March 24 Bill Gates gave a highly revelatory 50-minute interview to Chris Anderson. Anderson is the Curator of TED, the non-profit that runs the TED Talks. [~ 51.5 min.]

Anderson asked Gates at 3:49 in the video of the interview – which well over three million views now – about a ‘Perspective’ article by Gates that was published February 28 in the New England Journal of Medicine.

“You wrote that this could be the once-in-a-century pandemic that people have been fearing. Is that how you think of it, still?” queried Anderson.
“Well, it’s awful to say this but, we could have a respiratory virus whose case fatality rate was even higher. If this was something like smallpox, that kills 30 percent of people. So this is horrific,” responded Gates.
“But, in fact, most people even who get the COVID disease are able to survive. So in that, it’s quite infectious – way more infectious than MERS [Middle East Respiratory Syndrome] or SARS [Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome] were. [But] it’s not as fatal as they were. And yet the disruption we’re seeing in order to knock it down is really completely unprecedented.”

Gates reiterates the dire consequences for the global economy later in the interview.

“We need a clear message about that,” Gates said starting at 26:52.
“It is really tragic that the economic effects of this are very dramatic. I mean, nothing like this has ever happened to the economy in our lifetimes. But … bringing the economy back and doing [sic] money, that’s more of a reversible thing than bringing people back to life. So we’re going to take the pain in the economic dimension, huge pain, in order to minimize the pain in disease and death dimension.”

As noted in an April 1 article in OffGuardian, there may be dramatically more deaths from the economic breakdown than from COVID-19 itself.

“By all accounts, the impact of the response will be great, far-reaching, and long-lasting,”

Millions could potentially die from suicide, drug abuse, lack of medical coverage or treatment, poverty and lack of food access, on top of other predictable social, medical and public-health problems stemming from the response to COVID-19.

    https://www.sott.net/article/431932-Ankle-monitors-ordered-for-Kentucky-residents-refusing-coronavirus-quarantine

Despite Governor Andy Beshear ordering all Kentucky residents to stay at home to mitigate the spread of the coronavirus, some in Louisville are reportedly refusing to self-quarantine.

As a response, Jefferson Circuit Court judge Angela Bisig is ordering ankle monitors for those who were exposed to the coronavirus but who won't stay at home.

CNN reports that Bisig ordered an individual identified as D.L. to wear a global positioning device for the next two weeks. D.L is reportedly living with someone who tested positive for the coronavirus, as well as someone who is a presumptive case.

About a week ago, D.L. was ordered to self-quarantine for 14 days, the amount of time it takes for an infected individual to exhibit symptoms of the coronavirus. Family members, however, said he leaves his home often.

Bisig ordered the state's Department of Corrections to place an ankle monitor on D.L., who will face criminal charges if they leave the house again. [more]

    https://www.sott.net/article/431934-Apricots-have-been-destroyed-cold-already-affects-peaches-and-cherries-in-Bulgaria

Apricots are for more than 95 percent, if not all completely dead, in the Danube Plain region. Some places have survived here and there, but if it freezes after the snow, they will also die," Nikolay Kolev of the Union of Danube Fruit Growers from Agrozona. Some varieties of peaches and nectarines in the north-east of the country are currently blooming or have already finished flowering, he also reports. Freezing temperatures are also critical to them. Cherries and plums are next in line. They are in the bud phase, they should not be damaged, but it depends on how much the temperatures will drop. The snow itself is not dangerous, but it is the negative temperatures that come after that is," says the fruit grower.

Apricots cover about 8-9 thousand decares of a total of more than 28 thousand decares plantings within the Union of Danube Fruit Growers. Then comes about 3-4 thousand decares peaches, of which if the forecasts come true and temperatures drop, much of this fruit will die as well. "Unfortunately it will be a zero yield year for some fruits," says Nikolay Kolev. [more]

North Atlantic’s capacity to absorb CO2 overestimated, study suggests
    http://www.fasterthanexpected.com/2020/04/03/north-atlantics-capacity-to-absorb-co2-overestimated-study-suggests/

The North Atlantic may be a weaker climate ally than previously believed, according to a study that suggests the ocean’s capacity to absorb carbon dioxide has been overestimated.

A first-ever winter and spring sampling of plankton in the western North Atlantic showed cell sizes were considerably smaller than scientists assumed, which means the carbon they absorb does not sink as deep or as fast, nor does it stay in the depths for as long.

This discovery is likely to force a negative revision of global climate calculations, say the authors of the Nasa-backed study, though it is unclear by how much.

“We have found a misconception. It will definitely impact the model of carbon flows,” said Oregon State University microbiologist Steve Giovannoni. “It will require more than just a small tweak.”

“We asked, how could our impressions of this ocean region be so far off?” Giovannoni said. “There are three possibilities: new equipment that allows us to see smaller plankton more clearly, the fact that previous studies had focussed on more eastern regions, and climate change altering the biology of the ocean.” [more]

The previous record was 1460 cars that burned when the car-carrier ship 'Auto Banner' went up in flames in coastal Incheon (South Korea), mentioned in the 2018-05-21 update. Moving down to third place is the fire that destroyed 1400 cars in a waterfront parking garage in coastal Liverpool (Britain) on New Years Eve in 2017, mentioned in the 2017-12-31 update. So this new fire was bigger than the previous two biggest car fires combined!

It's a sure sign things are ticking up environmentally (as in JJFH events will become more prevalent as these gases belch out of the ocean, permafrost, lakes, the Arctic, from oil and gas operations and more. People don't understand how the atmosphere works - pollution doesn't just magically "disappear," it all becomes absorbed after taking a while to "mix" and the result is a change in the chemical composition of "the air:" dirtier, more toxic, less oxygen and more "other shit," including radiation, particulates and poison.

The ‘Stoned Ape’ Theory Might Explain Our Extraordinary Evolution
    https://getpocket.com/explore/item/the-stoned-ape-theory-might-explain-our-extraordinary-evolution

A scientist resurfaces a psychedelic retelling of human evolution.

Imagine Homo erectus, a now-extinct species of hominids that stood upright and became the first of our ancestors to move beyond a single continent. Around two million years ago, these hominids, some of whom eventually evolved into Homo sapiens, began to expand their range beyond Africa, moving into Asia and Europe. Along the way, they tracked animals, encountered dung, and discovered new plants.

But that’s just the version of our origin story that happens to be widely accepted by scientists.

A more radical interpretation of these events involves the same animals, dung, and plants but also includes psychedelic drugs. In 1992, ethnobotanist and psychedelics advocate Terence McKenna argued in the book Food of the Gods that what enabled Homo erectus to evolve into Homo sapiens was its encounter with magic mushrooms and psilocybin, the psychedelic compound within them, on that evolutionary journey. He called this the Stoned Ape Hypothesis.

McKenna posited that psilocybin caused the primitive brain’s information-processing capabilities to rapidly reorganize, which in turn kick-started the rapid evolution of cognition that led to the early art, language, and technology written in Homo sapiens’ archeological record. As early humans, he said we “ate our way to higher consciousness” by consuming these mushrooms, which, he hypothesized, grew out of animal manure. Psilocybin, he said, brought us “out of the animal mind and into the world of articulated speech and imagination.”

As human cultural evolution led to the domestication of wild cattle, humans began to spend a lot more time around cattle dung, McKenna explained. And, because psilocybin mushrooms commonly grow in cow droppings, “the human-mushroom interspecies codependency was enhanced and deepened. It was at this time that religious ritual, calendar making, and natural magic came into their own.” [more]

Five environmental experts are calling for fossil fuel warning labels, which would be similar to tobacco warning labels, if adopted.

They expressed their opinion in an op-ed published to BMJ, a peer-reviewed medical journal, on March 31.

"We propose a low cost, scalable intervention to facilitate change in individuals' and society's views and behavior: warning labels at points of purchase of fossil energy or services dependent on large amounts of fossil fuel, for example at petrol stations, on energy bills, and on airline tickets," they wrote in the op-ed. "They should state clearly that continuing to burn fossil fuels worsens the climate emergency—with major projected health impacts increasing over time." [more]

As China Reopens, Africa’s Woes Threaten to Starve Its Factories
    https://www.yahoo.com/finance/news/china-reopens-africa-woes-threaten-230151398.html

South Africa on March 26 imposed a three-week lockdown to fight the coronavirus, confining millions in their homes and shuttering most businesses—including the mines that are the first link in a global supply chain that passes through smartphone factories in China and auto plants in Detroit, Turin, or Tokyo, and ends in stores and showrooms around the world.

Even as Asia slowly reopens after its lockdown, factories there risk running short on supplies as the virus spreads to countries that produce vital raw materials. And nowhere is the problem a bigger issue than in Africa, which provides the metals and minerals needed for just about every industrial product, and where countries heavily reliant on trade with China have been suffering from a collapse in commodity prices.[more]

    https://www.yahoo.com/news/chile-drought-causing-water-shortage-amidst-virus-crisis-012400537.html

With historically low river flows and reservoirs running dry due to drought, people in central Chile have found themselves particularly vulnerable to the coronavirus pandemic.

Years of resource exploitation and lax legislation have allowed most reservoirs in that part of the country to run dry.

"There are now 400,000 families, nearly 1.5 million people approximately, whose supply of 50 liters of water a day depends on tankers," Rodrigo Mundaca, spokesman for the Movement for the Defense of Water, the Earth and the Protection of the Environment, told AFP.

One of the main pieces of advice to protect people against coronavirus is to wash your hands regularly.

"Living without water is awful," said Dilma Castillo, who lives with her children on one of the hills around El Melon, a town of 22,000 close to the seaside resort of Valparaiso whose river has dried up.

"The worst thing is that there's no awareness, even among the people here. I'm very distressed because it's humiliating to live in these conditions."

In the greater Santiago area and in Valparaiso, rainfall last year was almost 80 percent below the previous record low. In the northern region of Coquimbo it was down 90 percent. [more]

Bank of America customers trying to apply for their piece of the $350 billion small business bailout were appalled to learn the bank was restricting loans to businesses who'd borrowed previously - despite claiming otherwise.

Outraged customers discovered on Friday that the massive financial institution is unilaterally denying loans through the Paycheck Protection Program - the small business bailout passed as part of last month's coronavirus economic stimulus - to any business that hasn't borrowed from Bank of America previously.

While the bank's CEO Brian Moynihan told CNBC it was merely prioritizing existing business loan customers, the policy posted on its website contradicted that claim, revealing that a prerequisite for applying to the scheme was a "small business lending relationship, inclusive of credit card," that existed prior to February 15. Bank of America was the first of the 'big banks' to begin accepting applications - and, as of Friday morning, the only one, though the program's website was supposed to go live at midnight on Thursday.

The Taliban have accused the Afghan government of using "indefensible arguments" to explain the repeated delays in releasing a promised 5,000 Taliban prisoners in exchange for 1,000 government personnel. The Afghan government's foot-dragging has also left Washington frustrated.

Attempts to negotiate an end to the political turmoil roiling Kabul have made little progress, frustrating the U.S. and potentially derailing the next stage in the Afghan peace process.
