Event Update For 2016-10-01

The seas, lakes and oceans are now pluming deadly hydrogen sulfide and suffocating methane. Hydrogen sulfide is a highly toxic water-soluble heavier-than-air gas and will accumulate in low-lying areas. Methane is slightly more buoyant than normal air and so will be all around, but will tend to contaminate our atmosphere from the top down. These gases are sickening and killing oxygen-using life all around the world, including human life, as our atmosphere is increasingly poisoned. Because both gases are highly flammable and because our entire civilization is built around fire and flammable fuels, this is leading to more fires and explosions. This is an extinction level event and will likely decimate both the biosphere and human population and it is debatable whether humankind can survive this event.

A. More fires and more explosions, especially along the coasts, but everywhere generally.
B. Many more animal die-offs, of all kinds, and especially oceanic species.
C. More multiples of people will be found dead in their homes, as if they'd dropped dead.
D. More corpses found in low-lying areas, all over the world.
E. More unusual vehicular accidents.
F. Improved unemployment numbers as people die off.

Category: Fires And Explosions

2016-10-01 - Man burns to death in burning pickup truck at home in Ringgold (Georgia):

2016-10-01 - 160 RVs and RV trailers destroyed by massive inferno before 2 AM at business in coastal Highbridge (Britain):

Quote: "A fire ripped through a caravan centre in the middle of the night and firefighters are still tackling the blaze this morning (October 1). More than 60 members of the public called the emergency services as the fire spread through the site on Bristol Road, in Highbridge, and gas cylinders started to explode. It has been confirmed by Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service more than 160 caravans have been destroyed in the blaze."

Note: This is where I dislike the term 'caravan', since it's used interchangeably for RVs (touring caravans), RV trailers (caravans) and mobile homes (static caravans). But this place sells RVs and RV trailers and both are visible in the images, so I'm sure some of each went up in flames. So, I'm just gonna call it 40 RVs, or one fourth of the total, which seems like a reasonable and probably even conservative estimate. So these are the 415th through 454th RVs to burn in 2016...

Utilities may get caps on liability in time of serious nuke accidents
In the event of a serious nuclear accident, the government is considering capping the liability of electric power companies and placing the burden beyond that on the public in the form of taxes or higher electricity rates.

This was totally foreseeable because it's evident now that even the money for decommissioning end-of-life reactors will be hard for plant owners and operators to find. When the going gets tough, the public foots the bill. We can see now that nuclear-generated electricity is far more expensive than imagined. "Too-cheap-to-meter" nuclear power turns out to be a total economic loser, not to mention the megatons of deadly radioactive waste littering the planet. -- RF

Why The 'Blob' East Of Hurricane Matthew's Eye Should Concern Us

As a reminder, Matthew has a very strong analogue in Hurricane Hazel from 1954. NOAA’s retrospective website points out, “Hazel had intensified into a powerful Category 4 storm with maximum winds of 135 mph. Between October 9th and 12th Hurricane Hazel moved northward and then north-northeastward crossing western Haiti on October 11 leaving a death toll estimated to be between 400 and 1,000. As a result of the passage over Haiti, the maximum winds diminished to 100 mph, but after clearing Haiti, Hazel was once again over warm tropical waters and began to strengthen.”
