Event Update For 2015-10-18

The seas, lakes and oceans are now pluming deadly hydrogen sulfide and suffocating methane. Hydrogen sulfide is a highly toxic water-soluble heavier-than-air gas and will accumulate in low-lying areas. Methane is slightly more buoyant than normal air and so will be all around, but will tend to contaminate our atmosphere from the top down. These gases are sickening and killing oxygen-using life all around the world, including human life, as our atmosphere is increasingly poisoned. Because both gases are highly flammable and because our entire civilization is built around fire and flammable fuels, this is leading to more fires and explosions. This is an extinction level event and will likely decimate both the biosphere and human population and it is debatable whether humankind can survive this event.

A. More fires and more explosions, especially along the coasts, but everywhere generally.
B. Many more animal die-offs, of all kinds, and especially oceanic species.
C. More multiples of people will be found dead in their homes, as if they'd dropped dead.
D. More corpses found in low-lying areas, all over the world.
E. More unusual vehicular accidents.
F. Improved unemployment numbers as people die off.

That incident has been deemed suspicious. Fire Chief Keith Green said the blaze, which started just before 4 a.m. Wednesday, on the 3000 block of Davison Road, was 'in an obscure location.' Green said an investigation has failed to find any reason for the vehicles to catch fire. 'It's suspicious, but we haven't identified a cause,' he said."

Note: Investigators might want to check to see if any of those three vehicles have any rust or electrified copper, and they all three probably have both, so there are two possible causes for those three cars to burn. Of course, since the investigators are clueless about what's happening, and unobservant enough to not have noticed it happening all over the world, they'll be stuck in a dead end until they themselves drop dead or burn to death or whatnot...

    Near-term human extinction
When people talk about the future of the human species on this planet it is either from the point-of-view of wishful thinking or within the realm of reductionistic, specialised climate science which does not take into account the effect of climate changes in maintaining a survivable habitat for humans.

A little bit of thought and joining of the dots leads to a very different conclusion.

    Near-term Habitat Loss for Humans
    Guy McPherson

The industrial economies of the world are inextricably linked. If Europe goes down the tubes because the derivatives bubble pops on that continent, then there will be consequences throughout the world. There’s a reason the Federal Reserve System of the United States gives money directly to foreign countries.

The rapid rise in global-average temperature I’ve described in this scenario occurs within days after collapse is complete. Sans methane and its exponential rise in Earth’s atmosphere. Sans 10-year “lag” in maximum heating from atmospheric carbon dioxide. Sans nuclear facilities melting down catastrophically.

I’m not suggesting all humans will die within days after the ongoing collapse of industrial civilization is complete. Rather, that process is likely to require months, or perhaps a few years. But it’s difficult for me to envision Earth with humans in 2030, notwithstanding the IPCC’s fantasy technology.

  4. Pathogen-carrying neotropical ticks ride migratory birds into US

Tick species not normally present in the United States are arriving here on migratory birds. Some of these ticks carry disease-causing Ricksettia species, and some of those species are exotic to the US. The research is published on October 2nd in Applied and Environmental Microbiology, a journal of the American Society for Microbiology.

In the study, the investigators examined thousands of migratory birds that had just arrived in the US, after having flown from Central or South America. Three percent of the birds carried exotic ticks. Based on the total number of migratory birds arriving in the US each spring--in the billions--the investigators estimated that more than 19 million exotic ticks are introduced into the US each spring, said Emily B. Cohen, PhD, Postdoctoral Fellow, Migratory Bird Center, Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute, National Zoological Park, Washington, DC.

But as yet there is no evidence that neotropical ticks have established themselves in the US. [more]

  5. Every Forest Biome on Earth is Actively Dying Right Now

Forests are ecological superheroes—they ventilate the planet, nurture the most biodiverse habitats on Earth, and regulate global climate and carbon cycles. From the poles to the equator, our survival is completely dependent on healthy woodlands.

But according to the latest issue of Science, which is devoted to forest health, every major forest biome is struggling. While each region suffers from unique pressures, the underlying thread that connects them all is undeniably human activity.

For example, the first of the special issue’s studies, led by forest ecologist Sylvie Gauthier, outlined the threats faced by boreal forests, which represent the largest forest habitats on Earth. These high-latitude woodlands are primarily coniferous, made up of pines, spruces, and larches, and stretch from the expansive forests of Canada to the Russian taiga. [more]

Lucy-Alamo Projects - Hydroxyl Generation and Atmospheric Methane Destruction

I and some other workers have designed a radio-laser Atmospheric methane destruction system based on the early Russian radio-wave induced conversion of methane to nano-diamonds. This radio-laser system can be installed on nuclear powered boats such as the 40 Russian Arctic ice breakers and start immediate work on destroying the atmospheric methane clouds that are building up in the Arctic.

  7. Well, that's something anyway - we've got nothing to lose by trying it! Also, hydroxyl radicals would react away hydrogen sulfide too, not just methane. The 'downstream' chemicals that result might not be too nice (think acids), but that'd still be better than hydrogen sulfide and methane. Repurpose all our nuclear ships - everybody's - for that task, and we might at least help mitigate the problem. And again, what have we got to lose?
