2019-04-02 - Unknown rotten egg odor blows through coastal Baytown (Texas):

Quote: "There is something in the air...but what no one seems to know for now. Some Baytown residents complained on Facebook Tuesday morning about a natural gas smell coming from the area around Harlem Elementary School. However, Goose Creek school district officials said they looked into it. 'We sent a maintenance crew out there, and they checked the building. But the smell is coming from the air outside. It is not something in the schools,' said Beth Dombrowa, Goose Creek CISD spokeswoman. The City of Baytown said nothing is going on they know of that could be causing the smell. 'We’ve had no reports of natural gas, and we are not working on anything in the area,' said Natasha Barrett, City of Baytown spokeswoman. The smell is not believed to have anything to do with the KMCO plant fire in Crosby, which happened sometime after reports were made about the odor. CenterPoint Energy was contacted to see what they knew about the smell. 'This morning, we received a call about a potential natural gas smell at Harlem Elementary,' Alejandra Diaz, CenterPoint spokeswoman. 'Our crews responded to the call and determined it was not natural gas related.'"

Note: Paywall, so I quoted most of it. So, an unknown rotten egg odor that wasn't natural gas and which came from outdoors hit Baytown and shortly later a chemical plant exploded and burned in Crosby, which is about 8.5 miles north-northwest as the gas blows from the coast at Baytown. This seems similar to that huge fire on the coast a couple of weeks ago in Deer Park, TX, where hydrogen sulfide was also detected in some homes in that area. No tanks or anything related to hydrogen sulfide burned during that fire, at least not that was reported, so where did that hydrogen sulfide come from? Hydrogen sulfide is explosively flammable, and it's apt to blow in off the coast and cause fires and explosions. There'll be explosively flammable methane too, and both will cause and/or exacerbate fires, but it's the hydrogen sulfide that people will smell, since methane is odorless...

2019-04-16 - Unknown rotten egg odor hits Stockport, Tameside, Salford, Denton, Redding, Droylsden, Bury, Oldham, Gorton, Sale, and Salford Quays (Britain):

Quote: "An odd smell is sweeping across much of Greater Manchester...but nobody knows what it is. Gas board bosses have received more than 300 calls from people in Stockport, Tameside and Salford, complaining of an unpleasant pong. Nobody knows what is causing it. Hundreds of people said they could smell something like 'gas' in places including Denton, Redding, Gorton, Sale and Salford Quays on Tuesday. Engineers attended and carried out safety checks. No problems were found with gas mains."

Note: This area isn't far from the western coast of Britain, the side most likely to have rotten-egg-smelling hydrogen sulfide blow in off the ocean. Obviously, once the concentration reaches 1 part per thousand, the populations of entire cities are going to start dropping dead. It's still possible that Britain will be scoured clean of life by fires before everyone drops dead from poison gas though. Time will tell!

2019-04-16 - Dead zones spreading through the oceans as oxygen levels decline:

Quote: "But the problem stretched far beyond 'dead zones', the authors pointed out, as even smaller oxygen declines could stunt growth in animals, hinder reproduction and lead to disease or even death. It also could trigger the release of dangerous chemicals such as nitrous oxide, a greenhouse gas up to 300 times more powerful than carbon dioxide, and toxic hydrogen sulphide."

A section of the road, particularly at Makasali village, had gone under the sea along with three others constructed further inland. However, a fifth road was also built further in from the others and is currently providing service to the people. The National visited the area last week and apart from its deteriorating condition and rise in sea level, the road is eventually wearing away. One of the local villagers, Lucas Dito, told The National that the current road was the fifth one that was built far inland after the initial one and three others were all claimed by the sea or had gone under the water."

Quote: "The blaze came one day after the iconic, 850-year-old Notre Dame Cathedral was partially destroyed by a massive fire. The church’s spire and most of its roof went up in flames after an apparent electrical short-circuit."

2019-04-17 - Study suggests that Earth's climate is very sensitive to even relatively small variations in atmospheric CO2:

Note: That means that the climate is even more sensitive to even smaller variations in atmospheric methane, since methane is a much stronger greenhouse gas than CO2, and even when methane breaks down, it turns into CO2, so you get a double-whammy with methane - a short burst of high-intensity heating when it's methane AND a much longer but less powerful impact after it turns into CO2...

2019-04-17 - Extinction Rebellion protesters to target Heathrow Airport (Britain):

Quote: "XR is demanding the government declare a climate and ecological emergency, reduce greenhouse gas emissions to net zero by 2025 and create a citizen's assembly of members of the public to lead on decisions to address climate change."

Note: Their hearts are in the right place, but they clearly don't understand just how bad our predicament is. If we reduce greenhouse gas emissions, that'll eliminate the protection afforded by 'global dimming', which will result in rapidly rising temperatures, which will massively increase greenhouse gas emissions from the oceans, from the burning of forests and human civilization and from melting permafrost. So reducing emissions might actually end the human race even faster than continuing to pollute, though continuing to pollute will ALSO end the human race, just a little slower. Either way, whatever we do or don't do, the human race's ability to survive on the surface of this planet is rapidly coming to an end...
