2020-01-05 - Woman, 35, bursts into flame and burns to death while walking down street in coastal Chennai (India):
http://www.newindianexpress.com/cities/chennai/2020/jan/06/freak-accident-chennai-woman-walking-down-road-suddenly-catches-fire-dies-2085573.html
http://www.thehindu.com/news/cities/chennai/woman-killed-in-choolaimedu-as-underground-power-cable-bursts/article30488961.ece

Quote: "'At around 8 pm, we were sitting by the road when Leema came to the grocery store in the street. She was speaking on the phone as she walked past the electric box. Suddenly, she froze as though she had suffered an electric shock and within moments we heard a loud noise, saw sparks and she was engulfed in flames. People from the grocery store rushed and covered her with a blanket to put out the fire,' said P Aruna, who saw the tragedy unfold as she was feeding her child."

Quote: "When asked about the incident, a Tangedco official said, 'We have asked the police for CCTV footage for clarity. Theoretically, there is no possibility of a leak from the underground wire that would lead to a blast of fire. The wire was not protruding from the ground and it was sufficiently buried to avoid a leak. There is no possibility for electrocution as the woman was wearing slippers.'"

Note: Not buying the electrocution angle. The electric company there says that couldn't happen and they've never seen this before - I believe them. She didn't touch anything. Could the ground have been electrified? Sure, maybe, but A) she was wearing shoes and was insulated from the ground, and B) if that was the problem then the people who rushed to her aid would have gotten electrocuted and burned too, but they didn't. Sooooo...what does that leave? The one thing she did come into contact with was the atmosphere. So I suspect that something electrical in the area ignited the AIR ITSELF, a small pocket of it anyway, which then ignited her clothes and burned her to death. But the air isn't flammable, you say? It is if there's enough methane in it, and nobody would smell that because it's odorless. When the gas storage site in Aliso Canyon was belching methane into the atmosphere in California, the government halted all flights in that area because they were scared something electrical in planes or helicopters would ignite that gas. The only other possibility I can see in this case is that this woman's clothes had become unknowingly saturated with methane (again, it's odorless, so she'd never know) and static electricity from her clothes ignited the methane in her clothes, which ignited her clothes and burned her to death. She's not the first person to burst into flame and burn to death while walking down a street either, though she might be the first I've seen this happen to in India. Usually people burn to death in India when their cars burst into flame while they're driving.

Also, none of these events are 'spontaneous combustion' of PEOPLE. People are mostly water so it's hard to ignite our bodies. What's happening is spontaneous combustion of clothing and occasionally hair. But when your clothes are saturated with methane then the fire will burn very hot, hot enough to kill you. One guy who burst into flame on his morning walk in coastal London was burned so badly that his internal organs were burned. It was winter when he burst into flame and burned to death though, so he was undoubtedly wearing lots of thick winter clothing. Anyway, it's clothing that's the problem in these incidents...

In his statement given to police on Friday night, the affected rickshaw driver, Murad Baig, said that he was passing by the site of the incident when he saw a burning vehicle heading his way through his rickshaw’s rearview mirror. He said that he had not even overcome the shock of such a sight when the van crashed into his rickshaw. http://www.democraticunderground.com/10142418434

Quote: "The heat in the world’s oceans reached a new record level in 2019, showing 'irrefutable and accelerating' heating of the planet. The world’s oceans are the clearest measure of the climate emergency because they absorb more than 90% of the heat trapped by the greenhouse gases emitted by fossil fuel burning, forest destruction and other human activities. The new analysis shows the past five years are the top five warmest years recorded in the ocean and the past 10 years are also the top 10 years on record. The amount of heat being added to the oceans is equivalent to every person on the planet running 100 microwave ovens all day and all night."

Quote: "The rate of warming from 1987 to 2019 is four and a half times faster than it was between 1955 and 1986."

Note: I noticed a while back that while there's some slight variability with the OVERALL temps of the planet as they continue rising - 2019 was the second-hottest compared to 2016 by a few hundredths of a degree, for example - the temps in the OCEANS have been one record-setting year after another in a steady upward progression. The warmer the oceans become, the less oxygen they hold, which expands the viable habitat for the ancient anaerobic bacteria and archaea that emit hydrogen sulfide, which will in time wipe out most life on this planet just as it has before. The warming of the oceans is our own extinction staring us right in the face as it approaches, an unstoppable freight train heading right at us carrying death and destruction...

Quote: "The most serious outbreak of desert locusts in 25 years is spreading across East Africa and posing an unprecedented threat to food security in some of the world's most vulnerable countries, authorities say. Unusual climate conditions are partly to blame. The locust swarms hang like shimmering dark clouds on the horizon in some places. Roughly the length of a finger, the insects fly together by the millions and are devouring crops and forcing people in some areas to bodily wade through them."

Quote: "One swarm measured 37 miles long by 25 miles wide in the north-east of the country, the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) said in a statement. 'A typical desert locust swarm can contain up to 150 million locusts per square kilometre,' it said."

Note: So that one megacity-sized swarm could contain more than 350 billion locusts!

Quote: "The death toll from the Wuhan coronavirus has risen to nine, as dozens more cases were reported across China and as far afield as the western United States sparking fears of a possible pandemic."

Quote: "Officials in Washington state confirmed the first case on US soil Tuesday. Cases have also been reported in South Korea, Thailand and Japan, and suspected cases detected in Australia."

Note: The Yahoo story is a little misleading. The current death rate is 2%. The Spanish flu death rate was 4-10%, so this current flu isn't as deadly as the Spanish flu. But a 2% death rate is still pretty high, and the sample size is still low, so that 2% could change, for better or worse. In 1918 there were far fewer people flying - and far fewer people period - yet 500 million people were still infected by the Spanish flu. So who knows how far this new virus could spread in the modern era if it spreads unchecked. It's certainly not under control now. And nothing says it won't mutate into a more virulent form either...

http://www.dw.com/en/australia-bushfires-send-co2-levels-soaring/a-52133656

Quote: "Catastrophic wildfires in Australia are pushing global carbon dioxide levels to new highs, scientists have warned. The UK’s Met Office predicted 2020 would see one of the largest annual jumps of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere since records began, with the raging bushfires blamed for up to a fifth of the increase."

Quote: "The historic wildfires in Australia likely unleashed about 900 million tons of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, equivalent to nearly double the country's total yearly fossil fuel emissions, according to scientists."

Quote: "Similar concentrations of CO2 were last seen in the Earth's atmosphere between 3 million and 5 million years ago, scientists say. Back then, sea levels were 10 meters to 20 meters (33 feet to 65 feet) higher than today, with temperatures some 2 to 3 degrees Celsius (3.6 to 5.4 degrees Fahrenheit) warmer."

Note: The 'catastrophe curve' continues to steepen. This is a chain reaction in action. The wildfires spew huge amounts of CO2 into the atmosphere, which causes more and bigger fires, which spew even more CO2 into the atmosphere, which causes even more and even bigger fires, etc, etc, until everything on the surface of the Earth that CAN burn has burned. We've still got a ways to go though. There are still plenty of unburned homes, businesses, vehicles, fields and forests to provide fuel as the planetary burnathon continues to escalate...

http://www.yahoo.com/news/greenhouse-gas-emissions-worse-ever-200800029.html

Quote: "Global emissions for 2019 are predicted to hit 36.8 billion tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2), setting yet another all-time record. This disturbing result means emissions have grown by 62% since international climate negotiations began in 1990 to address the problem."

Note: So since we started 'addressing the problem', we've made it 62% worse! Well, like I've said before, maybe this is actually the solution. We race to bring cataclysm upon ourselves as quickly as possible, then we all die and our emissions drop to zero. It's a foolproof emissions-reduction strategy. The upside is complete reduction of emissions, the downside is everybody dies. Pros and cons!
