Event Update For 2019-12-09
http://jumpingjackflashhypothesis.blogspot.com/2012/02/jumping-jack-flash-hypothesis-its-gas.html
The seas, lakes and oceans are now pluming deadly hydrogen sulfide and suffocating methane. Hydrogen sulfide is a highly toxic water-soluble heavier-than-air gas and will accumulate in low-lying areas. Methane is slightly more buoyant than normal air and so will be all around, but will tend to contaminate our atmosphere from the top down. These gases are sickening and killing oxygen-using life all around the world, including human life, as our atmosphere is increasingly poisoned. Because both gases are highly flammable and because our entire civilization is built around fire and flammable fuels, this is leading to more fires and explosions. This is an extinction level event and will likely decimate both the biosphere and human population and it is debatable whether humankind can survive this event.
A. More fires and more explosions, especially along the coasts, but everywhere generally.
B. Many more animal die-offs, of all kinds, and especially oceanic species.
C. More multiples of people will be found dead in their homes, as if they'd dropped dead.
D. More corpses found in low-lying areas, all over the world.
E. More unusual vehicular accidents.
F. Improved unemployment numbers as people die off.

The UN climate forum tasked with saving the world from runaway global warming has become an "opportunity for countries to negociate loopholes and to avoid raising their ambition" to act on climate, the 16-year-old told delegates.

White Island Volcano erupts in New Zealand: Five people killed with eight missing presumed dead; 27 of the 31 survivors suffer horrific burns - UPDATES
https://www.sott.net/article/425359-White-Island-Volcano-erupts-in-New-Zealand-Five-people-killed-with-eight-missing-presumed-dead-27-of-the-31-survivors-suffer-horrific-burns-UPDATES
Burn centers across New Zealand are full to capacity as more than two dozen victims are being treated for horrific wounds suffered in a volcanic eruption on White Island, leaving many with burns on over 70 percent of their bodies.
At least 27 of the 31 people injured in the volcanic blast that rocked the island on Monday suffered severe burns covering over two-thirds of their skin, the government said in a statement, noting the possibility that some of the injured will not survive.
"All our burns units are full to capacity. Our plastic surgeons, hospital, anesthetists are doing their best to treat the many who have sustained injuries," said acting Ministry of Health adviser Dr Pete Watson. "Twenty-seven of the 31 have suffered greater than 71 percent body surface burns."
With five already confirmed killed, police said eight people are still missing and likely did not make it, leaving only those who were able to flee immediately among the survivors.
"I would strongly suggest that there is no one that has survived on the island," New Zealand Deputy Commissioner John Tims told reporters, adding: "We are doing everything we can to get back to that island."
Meanwhile less than a day after the volcanic eruption a strong 5.3-magnitude earthquake shook New Zealand's North Island.[more]

Miss Stevens said she had initially seen the "massive flock" flying overhead before landing and appearing to eat something in the road.
An hour later they were dead.
Mr Edwards said: "There's easily more than 300 of them.
"I counted 150 last night but I gave up as there's just hundreds of them littered everywhere.
"It's as if they just dropped down dead from the sky. [more]

Parade of storms to cause misery through Christmas
https://www.yahoo.com/news/parade-storms-cause-misery-christmas-190721404.html
The weather pattern isn't likely to produce powerhouse storms or intense Arctic outbreaks, but AccuWeather meteorologists warn that neither of those factors is needed to bring a moderate to heavy snowfall and a buildup of ice. Moderate storms meeting up with just enough chilly air can create conditions conducive for a wintry mess and difficult travel.

ReplyDeleteThe portent of runaway greenhouse warming
http://arctic-news.blogspot.com/2019/12/the-portent-of-runaway-greenhouse-warming.html
Carbon, the essential element underpinning photosynthesis and life, is transformed into toxic substances in the remnants of plants and organisms buried in sediments. Once released to the atmosphere in the form of CO₂, CO and methane, in large quantities these gases become lethal and have been responsible for mass extinctions of species (Fig. 1). [he's leaving off one of the most important ones H2S]
Given amplifying feedbacks from land and oceans triggered by rising temperatures, the concept of an upper limit of warming determined by limitation on carbon emissions alone is unlikely, since, under a rising high greenhouse gas concentration, amplifying feedbacks triggered by methane release, bushfires, warming oceans and loss of reflectivity of melting ice, temperatures would keep rising. As an example, findings show that warmer ocean water is melting hydrates and releasing methane into the sediment and waters off the coast of Washington state, at levels that reach the same amount of methane from the Deepwater Horizon blowout. Carana (2019) finds a potential for abrupt warming of 18°C or 32.4°F (Fig. 2).
Attempts at CO₂ drawdown (sequestration), if urgently applied on a global scale, may conceivably be able to slow down further warming. This article refers to natural methane reservoirs and human-induced methane emissions, indicating that, once temperatures supersede a critical level, a further rise in methane release would result regardless of restrictions of emissions.
According to Kelley (2003) a planetary “runaway greenhouse event” may be triggered when a planet overheats due to absorption of more solar energy than it can give off to retain equilibrium. As a result, the oceans may boil filling its atmosphere with steam, which leaves the planet uninhabitable, as Venus is now. Planetary geologists think there is good evidence that Venus was the victim of a runaway greenhouse effect which turned the planet into the boiling hell we see today. According to Hansen (2010): “If we burn all fossil fuels, the forcing will be at least comparable to that of the PETM, but it will have been introduced at least ten times faster. [. .] The warming ocean can be expected to affect methane hydrate stability at a rate that could exceed that in the PETM, where the rate of change was driven by the speed of the methane hydrate climate feedback, not by the nearly instantaneous introduction of all fossil fuel carbon.” In a critical review of the theory of runaway greenhouse warming, Goldblatt and Watson (2012) state: “We cannot therefore completely rule out the possibility that human actions might cause a transition, if not to full runaway, then at least to a much warmer climate state than the present one.” [more]
MBARI: Thousands of holes discovered on seafloor off California coast
ReplyDeletehttps://www.sott.net/article/425545-MBARI-Thousands-of-holes-discovered-on-seafloor-off-California-coast
Researchers have discovered thousands of mysterious holes or pits in the seafloor — measuring 36 feet across and three feet deep on average — off Big Sur, California.
A team led by Eve Lundsten from the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute (MBARI) discovered the so-called "micro-depressions" during a survey of North America's largest pockmark field.
Pockmarks are similar to micro-depressions albeit much larger, measuring around 600 feet across on average and 16 feet deep in this particular field. Since 1999, MBARI scientists have uncovered more than 5,200 of these almost-circular and evenly-spaced pockmarks across an area of around 500 square miles off Big Sur. [is that where the UFO's park?]
For their latest survey, the Lundsten and colleagues wanted to investigate this pockmark field because there are proposals to build a wind-energy farm in the area.
It was during this survey that the team identified the never-before-seen micro depressions (MDs) using autonomous underwater vehicles. They identified roughly 15,000 MDs scattered throughout the area, some of which are found inside the pockmarks themselves. The sides of the micro-depressions tend to be steeper than those of the pockmarks and they are often elongated in one direction.
In research presented at the Fall 2019 meeting of the American Geophysical Union in San Francisco, the researchers say it is unclear how the pockmarks and MDs were formed. [more]

Anomalous cold weather kills hundreds of fish in Samut Prakan, Thailand
https://www.sott.net/article/425524-Anomalous-cold-weather-kills-hundreds-of-fish-in-Samut-Prakan-Thailand
The cold weather in Thailand is beginning to have an effect on local wildlife and fish as hundreds of fish were found dead floating in a lake in Prueksa Village this morning.
Aquatic experts stated that the temperatures which have been around 18C in the area are highly unusual for the fish and have caused a mass die-off.
Local fisherman stated to the media that if the cold weather continues for an extended period of time it could have serious effects on their livelihoods.
For now, the current cold snap is expected to last at least through Tuesday. [more]

Near-Earth asteroid numbers grow
https://www.sott.net/article/425448-Near-Earth-asteroid-numbers-grow
All up, 2019 has been a bumper year for asteroid-spotters. ESA reports that sky-gazers found the largest haul of new objects ever - recording 2144 since New Year's Day, 175 of them in November alone.
That number is sure to grow in the last couple of weeks of the year, pushing the overall total even higher.
For the record, therefore, at the time of writing, the ESA has logged 21,429 asteroids and 108 comets close enough to be classified as near-Earth objects. There is no need for panic, however. Only 982 of them will ever come close enough to hit us. [more; ONLY 982?! it only takes ONE!]

The $20 Trillion Threat That Could Trigger The Next Financial Meltdown
https://www.yahoo.com/finance/news/20-trillion-threat-could-trigger-000000794.html
Trillions of dollars of market value could go up in smoke due to climate change.
The damage hits the global economy in multiple ways. The first is the most obvious. Physical damage from more powerful natural disasters is on the rise. 2017 and 2018 were the costliest back-to-back years for economic losses related to natural disasters, according to risk and reinsurance firm Aon.
But the danger grows worse when the physical damage starts to reprice portions of entire asset classes. One glaring example is the real estate market along coastlines, which will see both physical damage and a dramatic repricing as the threat becomes increasingly clear. That happens through a variety of mechanisms – people move away, zoning ordinances restrict building, insurance companies withdraw support, investors withdraw capital, etc. [more; pffff - you ain't seen nothin']
