Event Update For 2019-10-14

The seas, lakes and oceans are now pluming deadly hydrogen sulfide and suffocating methane. Hydrogen sulfide is a highly toxic water-soluble heavier-than-air gas and will accumulate in low-lying areas. Methane is slightly more buoyant than normal air and so will be all around, but will tend to contaminate our atmosphere from the top down. These gases are sickening and killing oxygen-using life all around the world, including human life, as our atmosphere is increasingly poisoned. Because both gases are highly flammable and because our entire civilization is built around fire and flammable fuels, this is leading to more fires and explosions. This is an extinction level event and will likely decimate both the biosphere and human population and it is debatable whether humankind can survive this event.

A. More fires and more explosions, especially along the coasts, but everywhere generally.
B. Many more animal die-offs, of all kinds, and especially oceanic species.
C. More multiples of people will be found dead in their homes, as if they'd dropped dead.
D. More corpses found in low-lying areas, all over the world.
E. More unusual vehicular accidents.
F. Improved unemployment numbers as people die off.

Officials said additional crews were called to help."

2019-10-14 - Animals are disappearing from forests, with grave consequences for the fight against climate breakdown:
http://www.yahoo.com/news/animals-disappearing-forests-grave-consequences-132552336.html
http://theconversation.com/animals-are-disappearing-from-forests-with-grave-consequences-for-the-fight-against-climate-breakdown-new-research-124746

Quote: "The disappearance of animals from otherwise intact habitats is known as defaunation, and it is leading to a growing number of empty forests not just in tropical countries, but around the world. The UK has already lost most of its largest species (think lynx, wolf, and wisent), while woodland bird numbers have declined by a quarter since 1970."

Note: Animal life disappearing, insects disappearing, birds disappearing, fish disappearing. It's like there's some kind of trend!

2019-10-14 - Both sea ice extent and sea ice volume in the Arctic were at the lowest level ever recorded on Oct 13:
http://arctic-news.blogspot.com/2019/10/arctic-ocean-october-2019.html

Note: Curves look a bit ominous there. The ice is now recovering, but the curve looks flatter, meaning it's recovering more slowly than any year previously measured, so far anyway. In any case, the trend is clear enough. Soon enough there will be a 'blue ocean event' and then the oceans will begin absorbing massive amounts of heat, and the methane already exploding out of the ground in Siberia and boiling out of the ocean in the East Siberian Sea will go berserk, inevitably leading to the end of human civilization, among other things...

  1. Good morning Jonny and all your readers.

From the macro to the micro we have interacting problems.
The escaping gases are causing fires, collapse and death.
Civilization's infrastructure is crumbling and failing, from sewer and water systems to nuclear plants and hydro-electric power stations; the grid is failing and causing fires and massive blackouts. Our government is running amok, the police are becoming fascistic, and common people are breaking under all the stress. Overdoses, murder and mayhem is on the rise.
It's anybody's guess how long this house of cards will remain standing as habitat for humanity evaporates more each year.

Due To The Weather, Midwest Farmers Fear Widespread Crop Failures And A “Record-Low” Harvest In 2019
    http://theeconomiccollapseblog.com/archives/nightmarish-weather-has-many-midwest-farmers-fearing-widespread-crop-failures-and-a-record-low-harvest-in-2019

Snow usually blankets the Upper Midwest around the first week of November, and so that means that many farmers in the Midwest only have about two weeks to salvage what they can before everything is lost. The unprecedented October blizzard that we just witnessed dumped massive amounts of snow on millions upon millions of acres of crops from Colorado to Minnesota. Even if the weather is absolutely perfect between now and November 1st, farmers are still “expecting massive crop losses”. In fact, one South Dakota lawmaker told the press that the crop losses will be “as devastating as we’ve ever seen”. And as you will see below, even parts of the Midwest that didn’t get hammered by the recent blizzard are potentially facing “record-low” harvests this year. We have never seen a year this bad for Midwest farmers in modern American history, but if the weather does not cooperate things could rapidly get much, much worse over the next two weeks.

  3. Stunning Survey Reveals Quarter Of Americans Have Never Eaten Vegetables
    https://www.studyfinds.org/stunning-survey-reveals-1-in-4-adults-has-never-eaten-vegetables/

The most popular vegetable in America is — corn! That’s according to a survey of 2,000 Americans who were asked which vegetables they liked and disliked the most. However, it turns out the most surprising result of the study may be that a staggering number of adults haven’t eaten any vegetables their entire lives.

Overall, a whopping 91.4% of respondents enjoy eating corn. Potatoes came in an extremely close second at 91.2%, while carrots and tomatoes were tied for the third-most-liked vegetable at 89%. Rounding out the top five are onions and green beans, which tied as the fifth-most popular veggies (87%) according to the survey, which was commissioned on behalf of VeggieTracker.com by Dr. Praeger’s.

On the other side of the spectrum, the most hated vegetable is turnips. Nearly three in ten respondents (27%) say they dislike the root veggie. Beets were a close second on the dislike list, at 26%, with radishes (23%), and brussels sprouts (21%) rounding out the bottom four.

The survey also reveals some shocking numbers — and perhaps a telling truth about the American diet. One in four respondents say they’ve actually never eaten a vegetable at all! And of those who do eat vegetables, the average person only includes veggies in a third of their meals. [more]

Digital dystopia: how algorithms punish the poor
    https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2019/oct/14/automating-poverty-algorithms-punish-poor

All around the world, from small-town Illinois in the US to Rochdale in England, from Perth, Australia, to Dumka in northern India, a revolution is under way in how governments treat the poor.

You can’t see it happening, and may have heard nothing about it. It’s being planned by engineers and coders behind closed doors, in secure government locations far from public view.

Only mathematicians and computer scientists fully understand the sea change, powered as it is by artificial intelligence (AI), predictive algorithms, risk modeling and biometrics. But if you are one of the millions of vulnerable people at the receiving end of the radical reshaping of welfare benefits, you know it is real and that its consequences can be serious – even deadly. 6. After months of investigation, the refinery fire in Philly was caused by LACK OF MAINTENANCE of the old pipes, specifically an old elbow.

Decades-Old Pipe Caused Explosion at South Philadelphia Refinery, Leaking Tons of Dangerous Acid, New Report Finds
    https://www.nbcphiladelphia.com/investigations/Old-Pipe-June-Explosion-Philadelphia-Energy-Solutions-Refinery-hydrofluoric-Acid-Leak-563156611.html

An air quality expert said Philadelphia and its residents "dodged a fairly substantial bullet," and a federal investigator used the term "miraculous"

Thousands of pounds of deadly hydrofluoric acid escaped into the atmosphere following the massive June 21 blast at the now-shuttered gas refinery in South Philadelphia, according to a new federal report.

More than 5,200 pounds of the chemical, known shorthand as HF, was estimated to have been released from a complex system of pipes in three early morning blasts, the U.S. Chemical Safety and Hazard Investigation Board said in its finding released Wednesday.

The root cause of the explosions? A decades-old elbow pipe had degraded to just 7 percent of thickness level, the federal safety agency said. That is well-below the threshold that normally would prompt replacement.

"The thickness of this elbow was not monitored," the board wrote in the report. [more; because they're CHEAPSKATES!]

    https://www.yahoo.com/news/farm-renewable-fuel-groups-angered-142336355.html

The law, known as RFS, outlines how many gallons of ethanol and biodiesel that oil refiners must blend into the nation's fuel supply each year.

The EPA said Tuesday it plans to use a three-year average to account for the reduction in demand for ethanol and biodiesel resulting from the waivers, using the number of gallons that the Department of Energy recommends waiving.

But the Trump administration earlier this month told farm groups it would use the average of the actual number of renewable fuel gallons that are waived, which is much larger.

Antarctica Is Still Releasing Radiation from Cold War Nuclear Tests
    https://www.yahoo.com/news/antarctica-still-releasing-radiation-cold-190200967.html

Scientists studying Antarctic ice have made a surprising discovery: manmade chlorine remains at unusually high levels within parts of the ice.

The chlorine stems from nuclear testing in the 1950s and 60s.

You Might Want to Skip Cleaning Up Leaves This Fall—Here's Why
    https://www.yahoo.com/lifestyle/might-want-skip-cleaning-leaves-215838319.html

"Fallen leaves have value for both natural ecosystems and gardens for several reasons," Ellis says. "In forests (and in woodland gardens), they accumulate on the ground underneath trees, forming a natural mulch that helps suppress weeds and protect roots from temperature extremes." Leaf litter also provides shelter for animals ranging from butterfly larvae to frogs and salamanders. And it’s food for the billions of microorganisms that break it down into the nutrients that plants need.
